• you have to. plug in the stand with the supplied power cord into an power outlet, the thin wire you are refferinng to plugs into the stand and into the back of your TV place the headset onto the stand and it will charge!

• The headphones should be charging on top of the base as long as they are seated properly and the base is plugged into an outlet.
