“Can this vacuum be used on stairs with the short handle? I need something that can clean stairs with lots of dog hair without having to carry the whole vacuum cleaner up and down.”

• It’s actually super light so you could probably cart the whole vacuum up the stairs no problem. That said yes you can opt not to use the long pole, however the smaller attachments don’t have the wide coverage of the end of the long pole.
