There is no acoustic difference between the Gen 2 and Gen 3 subs. The Gen 3 Sub has updated internal processing and memory power and is designed to take advantage of any new features that come to the Sonos platform.
I’m seeing 15.3” height by 15.8” width, so I’m not sure where your seeing your dimensions. SONOS stated that acoustics are the same.
