• The Roku channel is free and provides various content sources that are supported by inserted commercials. It is not required that one use or view that channel. I use my Roku boxes for Netflix, Amazon Prime, Xfinity Beta, Roku channel, and some others. It is just a question of what you wish to view with it and what subscriptions you might have.
