Steve, 1 year service is NO LONGER INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF THE UNIT. I bought and set up on 8/8/16 and the box says service subscription sold separately. Went online and found this: http://zatznotfunny.com/2016-04/tivo-bolt-service/ Very misleading!

Does this unit work with OTA ?   (4 Answers)

        Answer

The Bolt can be used EITHER with OTA or through a cablecard provided by the cable company but not both. Thus a cable user today can be an OTA user down the road. NOTE: The new Bolt + model released on 9/16/2016 has 6 tuners and 3 TB of storage but does not have the OTA capability that the Bolt has.

          Answer

No, it is connected to one tv. However, you can purchase two TiVo Mini's for your additional tv's and they connect to the TiVo Bolt. Just note that all of the TiVo devices must be connected via Ethernet as the Mini's don't have wireless capabilities. The other option is if you have an MoCA network.

With a TB of storage, how much record time with HD and with 4K?   (2 Answers)

            Answer

1 TB of storage is about 160 hours of HD. In my experience HD television uses between 1 - 3 GB per show. 4K shows are generally streamed. When 4K is offered by cable you can get an expansion drive that plugs into an eSATA port on the unit.

              Answer

Yes with the tivo app, if you want to watch something live it will start recording and then you will essentially begin watching the recording, this can be done remotely assuming network allows to be viewed from outside, Works for android or IOS, https://www.tivo.com/support/how-to/how-use-tivo-app-ipad

Do you have to have cable or stream via youtube, hulu, etc. to get tv shows or can you only get the over-the-air shows? I'm looking to ditch cable but don't know what to expect if I get this instead. I have Amazon Prime but want to watch different shows   (3 Answers)

              Answer

You can use this for OTA shows with just an antenna. To use the apps such as Hulu, YouTube and Amazon Prime, you would need to have an internet connection of some sorts to the Tivo, which typically comes over cable. You should be able to subscribe to just internet from the cable company without.

Does this item work like a vhs? I want to be able to program at a certain hour a program and record it! I have cable but don't want to pay for the service every month. I record programs once in a while! Does it have storage?   (3 Answers)

              Answer

First, you don't set it like a VHS exactly. You search for the show or program you want to record, then set the recording options (one-time, record the series, etc.) Second, TiVo is not free - you have to rent a cable card from your cable company and you pay a monthly, annual, or one-time fee to TiVo. The only free TiVo option is their Roamio OTA (antenna). Third, yes it has storage. It holds one terabyte of recordings. Depending on your video quality (SD or HD), you should have hundreds of hours of recordings.

Will this work correctly with the xfinity Gateway modem/router? (I just installed the xf Gateway & my 4-yr-old TiVo Premiere XL4 is having probs: xfinity's On Demand & Amazon Prime Video keep dropping out; xfinity has been no help.)   (1 Answer)

                Answer

I'd say your best bet is to replace your modem/router. Xfinity equipment is notoriously bad. That way they can charge you more when it craps out. Plus, you get to pay them a fee every month for the privilege. I've had much better luck with Netgear and D-Link modems and routers. Start there. Theoretically, most TiVo products will use with any GOOD modem/router.
