QuestionI have an old desk top running Microsoft Windows XP Home. Now, I'm having troubles installing or transferring my data. 1.) Will this work on my XP? 2.) If not, what will
- Answer It will but you will need to format it first in xp. See my other answer here on using with xp for details. I have the larger 10TB drive working in xp. :)
QuestionCan I use this hard drive for Windows XP and does it have to be formatted first before using it?
- Answer This drive comes initialized as an NTFS drive which post dates XP and is not recognized by XP. You would have to reinitialize it as an MBR drive and then reformat it but the problem is that XP can only address a maximum disk size of about 2TB. There used to be ways of tricking XP into being able to use all the space on 3TB and 4TB drives by creating additional partitions but I don't know if that works anymore. Basically, I would not recommend buying this drive for use on Windows XP.
QuestionCan I also use this to back up my Android phone using it's usb cord? Also, is it compatible with older laptop running Windows XP?
- Answer Yes, you can back up your Android phone, but I do it through my desktop computer. Can't comment on XP, but I supect it would work. I don't use the back-up software, I just copy files to it so I can access individual files if I want.
QuestionCan this drive be used with both XP and windows operating systems? Would I have to reformat it ?
- Answer Xp is a windows operating system and so are windows 7 or 8 or 10 they are all windows operating system and they normally use NTFS format. If you do NTFS you can use the drive among all windows operating system.....now if you own a Mac and a Windows and want to use the same drive you might have to use third party software to use either NTSF or HSF+ (you have to pick one and find the third party app to use on the off format pc)....
