    • Best answerIf you are using these drives for high demand read/write applications (such as gaming) you will likely find that they are inadequate because for most external drives the spin speed is slow (usually 5200 rpm) and the read/write cache is low 32 mb vs 64 plus on internal drives. If you're a serious gamer, consider drives designed specifically for PS/Xbox. Those drives are engineered for the task.

    • Best answerExternal drives will not make your computer do anything faster! External Hard Drives, or HD, are for backup and or if you need to extend the storage size of your existing computer/device. If your computer has USB3, it will perform MUCH FASTER than the older USB2 or USB 1.1 or older versions! BUT it will not perform as fast as an internal HD! Here is the reason: The internal HD has interface called SATA and the data can flow much faster than using the USB port. USB port has to travel through several components, before the data reaches the internal hardware, that is why it is little slower than SATA interface. Also, remember to unplug the USB device as soon as you aren't using the external HD, just in case your computer gets a virus! The virus will spread to every device your computer has a connection to! In my profession I see too many unhappy people, who did not backup their data to external the HD (Hard Drive) ! Don't bee one of these unhappy people yourself!

  • Q: Will this work for gaming because that is what it would sometimes do on it enerything else is school  (2 Answers)

    By Ryker

    • ANot knowing what part of your gaming activity would be present on the disk, what matters is the actual read and write speed over your USB port connection. That speed may well be fine for certain games, other, high-intensity video interchanges might be a limiting factor. That said, nothing beats a success, but a failure...... Try one.

    • Best answerSure will!!! That's where I have mine and it's glorious. No more fiddling around with piddly 32gb flash drives and 500 gb portable externals trying to hold all my games. Now if I could only find time to play them all.

  • Q: Will this work as external storage for a PS4?  (2 Answers)

    By Bash

    • AMaybe, maybe not. Sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't. Depends on the quality of the drive used. If performance matters, you're better off using drives designed for heavy read/write use. Many if not most external drives don't have enough cache or fast enough platter spin to make them useful. Think about it like this, would you buy and HP Envy notebook or and ASUS ROG laptop for gaming. Same concept, design and engineering. You get what you pay for when gaming. Buy the HDDs designed for use with gaming consoles, you'll have less aggravation and less data loss...imagine losing all your Fallout progress due to a cheap drive!
