Not sure what you mean by "occupied." Yes there is a separate drive in each bay. You can't use both drives separately, however. So if you buy it with 8TB of storage that means each bay contains a 4TB drive but technically you can only save up to 4TB of data. One drive you are saving to but the other drive is used as an automatic backup of the first drive. While you can't take advantage of the full 8TB of storage space, you are making a duplicate of your first drive in case one drive crashes. That's the purpose of this product.

can it be accessed like a regular external hardrive without the ethernet wire? or is it cloud only?   (2 Answers)

I'm learning these cloud drives don't function like external hard drives. I need something that can be accessed as a network from remote locations but also by a pc thru USB without using the Ethernet. Does this do both and how?

Does the 4tb 2 bay model not mirror the first drive? If not can you set it up that way? I'm asking because i want to have a back-up of my back-up, I know the 8tb models do it. Wasn't sure about the 4tb models. Thanks   (1 Answer)

Yes the 4TB model can be configured in RAID 1 mode which would provide a 2TB backup drive with the other 2TB drive a mirror image. This setup is just like the 8TB model.
