“Hi, This question has been asked 2x and whirlpool has given two different answers. Once and for all does this microwave require that it is connected to an exterior vent ? Or can it recirculate back into the kitchen?”

No it does not. it is set to recirculate back into the kitchen. It requires that you install the exterior vent damper(included) if you desire exterior venting.

It comes "out of the box" ready to recirculate into kitchen/cook area. Wall and roof venting IS an option but not required.

Sorry for the confusion Fiddle, the WMH53521HZ can be installed to either recirculate or vent externally. By default, the Microwave is set to Recirculate, but during installation it can be configured to vent outside.
