A:AnswerIn a word...yes. It has plenty of power for just about any speaker. I'm using a Denon (5.1) receiver with a Definitive Technologies powered subwoofer. All the rest of my speakers are passive. I have a very large living room with a 10 foot ceiling and I'm getting all the volume I can ask for. For music, I'm using an M&K Goliath woofer and Visonik Davids for my front right and front left speakers. My surround spearkers are Paradigms mounted on stands at the rear of my living room. My Denon 5.1 receiver has less power than this Yamaha receiver, and I'm having no problems with playing music or movies at loud levels.
A:AnswerThere are several DSP selections to choose from and many of them enable/disable various speakers. It is possible that the DSP for the TV is different than for the Movie which may account for the difference.
A:AnswerDaddyo, the 665w is not a model number, it is the wattage rating of the receiver. Same unit, Best Buy has a habit of throwing in the wattage next to the manufacturer without explanation!
