Synopsis

R.I.P.D.
A hotshot detective who was killed in the line of duty joins a supernatural police force that protects the living from the malevolent souls who have escaped judgment in this adaptation of the popular Dark Horse comic book. Nick Walker (Ryan Reynolds) was a cop with a reputation for getting a results when he was brutally gunned down during a violent raid. The next thing Nick knew, he was sitting in the headquarters of the Rest in Peace Department -- a supernatural police force tasked with arresting lost souls who are hiding out on Earth. His new partner Roy Pulsifer (Jeff Bridges) is a veteran sheriff with a knack for spotting a fugitive soul in disguise. Now Roy and Nick are about to face a menace that threatens to upset the ethereal balance between the physical world and the supernatural realm, and should they fail in maintaining that balance Earth will be flooded with a wave of very angry -- and very powerful -- lost souls. Kevin Bacon, Mary-Louise Parker, and Stephanie Szostak co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Full disclaimer: I am a HUGE Ryan Reynolds fan. I think he is one of the wittiest and funniest actors alive today. The fact he can also do really great action flicks like Safe house is just icing on the cake. I also love Jeff Bridges, while he was funny as the DUDE. I actually consider him more of a dramatic actor turning especially good performances in movies like Sea Biscuit etc. So I was completely and happily blown away when I realized that in this movie Jeff bridges is the comic lead!! lol He made the whole family laugh hysterically numerous times. And while Ryan Reynolds definitely had his jokes too, Jeff Bridges carried this movie comically on his back. Fair warning, you must be in a silly mood and TRULY wanting to laugh when you watch this flick. The plot is waaaaay corny and if your in a serious mood you will most likely just find it stupid. My .02 cents.

This is a guilty pleasure. It is not a great, or even an especially good film, but I still really enjoy it. The acting is good, the special effects acceptable. The thing I like most is the concept of undead cops monitoring supernatural activity on Earth. Really enjoyed Kevin Bacon and Jeff Bridges. Ryan Reynolds is...well, every other Ryan Reynolds character. That's not a complaint since I enjoy the actor in everything he does, he just doesn't really add much to the film. A fun film worth a watch if you like the concept, otherwise it won't be something you would probably enjoy.

We've seen RI.P.D, twice both in hd, and then 3D, must say a great movie to watch in 3D. In many way it's like Men in Black, People arent what they seems to be, only instead of monster from outer space, it's the dead, pretending to be alive unless they get a hold of a spice then they turn into all kinds of dead like creatures, humans degrading. I'm hoping they make a 2nd one. Jeff Bridges is great in this as a cowboy cop from the gold rush , but his image that people see if a cop that should be a model. The 3D just makes it more fun. It's a great movie for teens to adults. Mild language

The Beginings of a Cult Classic

A great cop show that turns so strange that I woke me from a preprepared snooze on the couch. I wasn't told the title or allowed to see anything before the very begining of the film. It looked just like a regular cop show. Then, Yup! Big surprises in ways I could never have guessed. It was so strange that it is bound to make a place for itself in the Hall of Cult Classics. It's been a while now and many of those who have seen it, are still quoting lines from it. "Be the Better Man"

I wasn't sure that this was going to be any good. Just because you have Jeff Bridges, Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Bacon doesn't mean that the movie will be any good. Just look at all of the big name actors in the In the Name of the King movies - and they are some of the worst movies I've ever seen. Interesting storyline for RIPD and good special effects make this a decent movie that is reminiscent of the MIB movies.

This is by no means an award winning movie, but it wasn't intended to be. It's just a fun, entertaining movie that our family enjoyed. It does give you the feel of the "Men in Black" movies with the good guys battling the aliens. We enjoyed Jeff Bridges character and it was a surprise to see Kevin Bacon in this movie as well. If you just want to watch a fun, non-thought provoking movie, this is enjoyable.

This movie wasn't the type of movie that would blow your mind away, but it was still decent. There was enough humor in the movie to be worth watching. However, though this movie doesn't have aliens, the concept of the movie reminds me of Men in Black; Mostly because it's about two guys trying to defeat bad guys in the real world that they don't want people to know about.

While I was skeptical at first about this movie, I decided to watch it and make my decision based on actually watching it. I was surprised that I liked it! It's not only a different kind of comic book movie, but also Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges actually work well together on screen! I would rent it first and see if it works for you..
