      GTA in Wild West

      • Top 250 ContributorTop 250 Contributor

While I am not the biggest fan of GTA games, I surely do enjoy them. Being created by the same developers and getting some awesome reviews, I decided to give Red Dead Redemption a shot, contrary to the fact that I am not a big fan of wild west genre either. After playing 30+ hours of story mode and few hours online, here is what I thought. *************PROS.***************** TOUCHING STORY: The story, to me at least, was the strongest aspect of this game. I personally loved it. The game is about life and struggles of “a cowboy” called John Marston. Unfortunately, I can’t describe more without spoiling, but as you will progress through the game you will learn some shocking facts about this main character and story will introduce you to some mind-blowing surprises that you will not see coming. GREAT OPENWORLD WILD WEST GAMEPLAY: After the story, this is the second most appealing feature of the game. You are free to roam in relatively huge open world and do variety of activities, which include but are not limited to shooting bandits and thieves, gambling, playing various games, catching and taming horses, hunting and ranching. Words are simply not enough to describe these gameplay or the joy will get from it. Play it to experience it. PLENTY OF MISSIONS AND SIDE MISSIONS: The story of this game is divided into missions. You will be traveling from one point on the world map to another to get these missions like GTA games and doing a huge variety of things (see above section). Completing each mission will unlock new missions. In addition to main missions, you will have plenty of side missions. To me both doing missions and side missions was very rewarding as completing them would unlock more of the fascinating story or humorous events. GREAT IN GAME GRAPHICS, ANIMATION AND ART: This game looks wild west looks gorgeous. I am so amazed contrary to taking place in big open world, everything you see and experience feels so real. From creation of different land structures to plants, trees, animal and people, everything gives you the feeling that you are in actual wild west. Gorgeous simply gorgeous! CINEMATIC CUTSCENES: Cutscenes are so nicely designed in this game that sometimes you forget you are playing a game and it simply feels like a movie. Part of that is due to the solid voice acting and part is due to detail in facial expressions of different characters. There are a lot of cutscenes, but most are short and well placed between the missions. GREAT LENGTH AND REPLAYABILITY: As stated above, I am 30+ hr into the game. I have finished the main story, but there are still many side missions and miscellaneous activity to finish. These days when most games are 6-10 hr long, having games like this makes my day (or month to be precise). ONLINE GAMEPLAY: Not a huge fan of online gameplay anymore, but to those who care, it is available in this game and from little I have played, it feels quite addicting. Please refer to other reviews, as I am not a big fan of this. DOWNLOADABE CONTENTS: While it is not free, to those who care you can download few DLCs off online. To me, the most interesting one seems the undead nightmare. *************CONS.***************** WATER=INSTANT DEATH: Hate it, simply hate it. I can understand if you say the main character can’t swim, but then create invisible walls where you have bodies of water. What will happen is you will go near a body of water because it will have a chest there and before you know it you move your analogue stick in slightly wrong direction, fall into the water and die. So stupid! MINOR GLITCHES: Hate to point it out, but there are minor glitches in the game. There are places you will get stuck or fall. But don’t worry, it is nowhere near as bad as Fallout 3. *************CONCLUSION*********** I give this game 9/10. Some of you may ask why give it such a high score after describing such cons. But the fact is this game has faults because the developers have been daring and tried to create something unique and big. If it can please me (a non GTA and not Wild West genre fan) then I would say it is a must buy for those who love either GTA or Wild West genre.

      All Together A Great Game

This game is the best game that I have bought. I first thought that the game was going to be an okay game because it was being released in May which is a summer game. I was utterly surprised by how great it was. People would like to call it the Wild West version of the Grand Theft Auto Series, but it is not it has its own feel to how the game works and how it is played. The story mode is great and easy to follow even for people that have the smallest attention span. John Marston is the average man who works on a ranch in America, it is 1911 and the it is still the Wild West, but things are starting to change into a civilized land. The cowboys are out and the cars are starting to flood in. The game has a good feel and the aiming system is great. The aiming systems act more like a difficulty setting than actual aiming system. Like the Casual the game is a piece of cake and on expert you need to be very experienced. That is the summary now is the break down. Multiplayer has a good feel to it they have added a new Co-op map pack that allows up to three of your friends to tackle mission together. It is so much fun with others. The main part of multiplayer is the free roam. It is where you and 16 other people can go around and do what ever in the world of the United States and Mexico. There are things to do like hold off the law or to just have shoot outs and just kill each other. The other modes though I thought were pointless because doing matches against other players is not fun for me. It is not that I can not win it is just what is the point. There are 50 ranks and 4 prestiges so multiplayer will take up a good amount of time out of the weekends by clearing out gang hideouts and transporting gold to places. The single player is amazing, Rockstar did a great job on it. The game world is so big it will take months to go and travel to places. This is a game where no one will ever be able to memorize the every area on the map because it is so big. This is mostly because it is wide open land and that nothing happens ofter. Every once and a while you will incounter random events such as a stage coach robbery or a person in need of assistance. The game also features a "Good or Bad" moral choice thing, kind of like Rockstar tried in GTA IV but this is better. There is fame and there is honor, you can gain honor by helping women and by killing criminals and you lose honor for obvious things like killing lawmen. Overall the game has a great single player and great multiplayer. This is a must buy and is something to keep you busy till the holiday season.

Best Western Game on the Market

Imagine Tommy Vercetti with a pair of spurs and a horse, and there you have Red Dead Redemption. The way the game plays is almost identical to the Grand Theft Auto series, but in the Old West. You start with nothing, just a poor rancher trying to take care of his family. As you get more into the game, you find that the main character, John Marston, doesn't come from the best background, and some of the choice hes made in the past are morally questionably, at best. The story itself is pretty cliche, bad guy turns good then his past catches up to him. This game is all about the gameplay though. Even if you plan to do nothing but the main missions, this game is still going to take you a pretty long time to beat. Good thing there are tons of side missions and random questions the extend that game time, though. Even after you beat all the main missions and side quests, you can have fun for days on end, just riding around, lassoing people and hunting animals. There are tons of different weapons to choose from, such as shotguns, pistols, rifles, sniper rifles, lassos, and knives. And usually there are at least a few variations for each of the different weapons avaliable. The game is pretty easy, if you keep it on its default settings, but you can always challenge yourself and take auto-aim off. The map is huge, and take at least 15 mintues to get from one end to the other when riding a horse, and there are couple of cities that fill up the map, but it does a good job at giving you that open, expansive feeling of the Old West. After you finish the single player mode, you can always hop online and playwith some friends. You can either do a free roam mode, where it is basically like the single player mode, but with 16 players, or you can do a deathmatch mode if you preffer. Tons of stuff to do, extremely fun, and pretty long. For good reason, this is the stuff we've come to expect from Rockstar.

Single player and multiplayer both rock!!!

Single Player: The storyline of this game is just too good. It flows so well, which I have found to not be the case with some of the GTA's. The game is a lot of fun, the main mission chain would take about 20 hours to complete, but all the side missions which are convienent and fun to do take the game easily above the 30 hour mark. The AI seems to be wonderfully random; posses riding through towns shooting wildly into the air, the occassional gunfight in the streets, a wide variety of random encounters as you ride through the country. The graphics are wonderful, some of the best I've seen. Multiplayer: Free Roam is your lobby for other game types, although I have spent the last several days totally in Free Roam - its so much fun!!! In FR you level up as you gain xp, from levels 1-50. You unlock new guns, characters, mounts and titles as you level. Free Roam is the closest thing to an MMO that has come to a console. You can form a posse with other players on a public server, then choose to complete gang hideout missions, or maybe team up and go kill other players while they try to complete gang hideouts, or whatever you want. You can join Free for All, Team Deathmatch, or objective based games at any time and from any point in the Free Roam world, which is the entire RDR map. It is so good.

      Red Dead Forever

Rockstar has made numerous best seller games (ie. GTA4) but Red Dead Redemption by far has out done any type of game to date that is so fun to play as a cowboy and who hasnt had a childhood dream of playing cowboy and Indians..well nows your chance the game mechanics are unbelievable considering the graphics and the AI and all the game factors that are put in and work almost seamless. The game takes place around 1910 when the wild west was almost gone and the east coast was more modern and your taken by train to New Austin which is Texas today and you play in the deep desert and snow cap mountains and green lush prairies and with the ability to run free by horse or train or stage coach this game is for sure a 10/10. So if you are no sure about this game due to age or gaming abilities it doesnt matter as the game allows for slow advancement your not forced into level after level nor do you have to accept anything except riding around for hours enjoying the view and practicing shooting with the "dead eye" ability which slows down the game and allows you to take aim with precision. So have fun and enjoy a game that wont come along again like this for a long to again.

      Far From perfect.

Single player is cool so far. It has me hooked. I would not describe it as some have as being an "open sandbox" where you can do anything. I thought GTA was closer to an actual "do anything you want" game then this has been so far. You cant even shoot anything you want. If you point the gun at certain people you cant even shoot them. BUT despite that, its still a cool SINGLE PLAYER game. I stress Single player because the Multi Player is terrible. I did a review where I listed each bug and problem in more detail but i guess it was to honest and did not get published. So let me try again. There are glitches where you, or your gun, or your horse, or all 3 become invisible. Yes I said Invisible. They simply are not on the screen. But they are definately still there. You can still be shot, you can still shoot, and you can still ride. Its just more difficult when you are playing a 3rd player game when you cant see your guy. Or trying to get on a horse you cant see. The most annoying thing is the random disconnects. Once you get one you have to reboot your xbox to get back in to the multiplayer game. Do yourself a favor and ignore every review that says "Nothing" in the "Whats not so great" Blank. These are obviously fanboys that cant give an objective opinion.

Exclusive Content war horse as cursed war

The game is great but my issue is these exclusive content offers, Maybe this is not the right forum and certainly is not limited to this game. We have 3 XBox's 360 and 3 online gold accounts in the house. When I buy a game it is to share, its rare that we buy individual copies. Exception are call of duty II as they all like to play online together so I had to but 3 copies. However we only have one copy of this game and they have to share. The issue is you can only activate the war horse on one account so this causes fighting. Who gets it etc. They should make exclusive content on the disk, so who ever as the disk at that time as the war horse. They package the code for Best Buy only surly they can make special runs of disks. I purchased Prince of Persia on the same day with the excessive skin character same deal. I understand they don''t want to share the code out to friends but linking the content to the disk would prevent that. The game is great just need copies of the code for all the kids.

      War Horse and Review

The war horse ships with all copies on the first truck to most stores and pre-orders. It is on a sheet inside the package. On to the game. It is typical Rockstar with smooth cut scenes and the new rural open world is nicely done. You won't remember who Niko Bellic is 5 minutes into this game. The game save advances you 6 hours. Keep that in mind as it adds to you playing time. There isn't a time achievement, so that should matter how much you save. The guns are different in the switching as you pull up the menu with the LB button and use the RS to choose. It is nice. The game will be a lot better when figure out how to pull up the map in once easy step. Multiplayer is nice and teaming up is great. We had a great time running missions and such. We did notice some bugs doing shoot outs where you can't see yourself or anybody else for that matter. I hope they fix that in the first patch.
