Kevin Costner plays an ex-pilot who visits the posh Mexican estate of an old associate (Anthony Quinn) "Tibey" Mendes, for a bit of R & R. Tibey has turned into a very powerful Godfather type who rules his world and those who touch it. Costner can't help but notice his old friend's incredibly beautiful young wife (Madeleine Stowe) and before long they're involved in some sizzling hoochie-coo at the risk of being discovered by Mendes. Mendes eventually catches on and exacts a painful and cruel punishment on the reclusive lovers caught in their lustful liaison. Costner vows a pay-back and the last part of the movie involves his attempt to achieve it.~Phillip Erlewine

Obsession: The Sex and Violence of Revenge - featurette
I have always been a fan of this film and it is great that the Director's Cut has been released and on Blu-Ray to boot. The film now feels leaner and less bloated in this shorter version. Even with the truncated running time, Tony Scott has managed to raise the levels of sexuality and brutality in the film.
The Blu-Ray version looks great for a 17 year old catalogue title. The overtly stylized look of the film befits the benefits brought on by the 1080p AVC transfer. It also comes with 5.1 sound, which the standard theatrical version lacked. The opening sequence with Costner's character taking his last flight around Mexico showcases some seamless audio pans and deep bass.
The only trouble to be found with this release is the lack of the theatrical version or any of the deleted scenes. So if you are interested in those you still have to hang on to the original DVD release. Still the disc has some special features such as a fairly blunt commentary by Scott and a short featurette that features new interviews with all of the principles. It would have been nice had the featurette been longer, but it manages to cover most of the points of interest.
I would recommend this to a friend
Rated 5 out of 5 stars
was nice to sit down and watch this cool movie!!!!
I thoroughly enjoy this movie. Kevin Costner, Anthony Quinn, and Madeleine Stowe give a wonderful performance, all against a beautiful mexican landscape.
This is one of my favorite Kevin Costner films, along with The Postman and Dances with Wolves. I strongly recommend this movie to any Costner fans or anyone wanting an excellent tragic love story.
Even though I don't believe in Infidelity, this is one of my top ten best love movies. I don't usually cry watching movies but this movie had me crying a river at the end. I've probably seen this movie 100+! Even thought I've seen it so many times, I'm screaming at the movie "Hold On, He's Coming! I'll just leave everyone with this; if you haven't seen this movie it's a most see.
