Only drawback is if you intended to run mlx llm's on this, the non pro cpu is a bottleneck even compared to m2 pro. Everything besides that including casual gaming is fine. War thunder, blue archive, ac shadows. Just need to use a wine wrapper through home brew. I primarily use this machine for college in the areas of cisco netcad, netlab, web dev, java, and general reading / writing. You could use most laptops for my course work without issue; I chose mac for 4 reasons: 1. battery life is unmatched, I'm hardly using 10% after 2 hours of doing packet tracer, listening to a show, and having 20 tabs open in addition to a bunch of documentation files. 2. screen works outside with up to 1600 nits continuous brightness & anti-reflection coating. I have a chair outside in the front garden I can chill on and do my work no issues for hours on end. 3. Apple silicon is very powerful relative to the low power consumption, intel and amd can only dream. 4. This is my first mac at age 29, I need to learn how to use this system for future interactions at work.

I produce music and this is a world of difference over the M1 Pro from a few years ago. It’s a welcome change and I’m glad they kept the current design. Also the 24 gigs of RAM vs 16 was a notable change.

The “MacBook Pro 14”is an excellent item cause I needed it for college and it saves me energy. I hardly charged it the first day as well so it’s a good choice and it has a button for logging in and remembers my password so I highly recommend it thank you!!!

I have always been a windows guy. I love to tinker and play games while doing my own tech research. The last macbook pro i owned loved to death and ran to the ground. M5 has come light years ahead. Office, code bulld, this rig can handle what you throw at it while powering on in seconds. Could mac os use better app suppeot? Sure. But 3p is responsible for that. Hint hint gaming companies. Overall happy with my purchase. Sucks adding ram and ssd space is so cost prohibitive.
