Falsely advertised SSD and horrific wifi

For those of you looking at this laptop, be aware HP is misleading customers with the specs of the SSD model as many other reviewers have noted. HP will NOT resolve this issue as the reviews are consistent from January to now that the SSD is not as advertised. My real gripe with this laptop is the wifi is horrific. My phone gets wifi speeds up to 50x faster. Speed tests run at the same time clock this unit at 2-20mpbs when my Samsung S8 clocks reliably at 75-125. My ACER with a failing hard drive from 2014 clocks faster. I even anticipated this issue and bought a dual-band USB card with even less success. If you're a heavy internet user and streamer, look elsewhere. There's a valid reason this products price is in a free fall as it was $580 on Black Friday and now it is discounted more.

    Loses Connectivity

I've had this computer for 4 days now, and i've lost connectivity at least 10 times. I REALLY WISH I would have read the reviews first! Yes, it is fast, but they need to fix the connectivity problem for FREE for everyone who has purchased this product. Really expected better from HP, as my 7 year old Envy hardly ever lost connectivity. I wouldn't say I regret buying it, but I wouldn't recommend it either.

    FALSE ADVERTISING

Based upon a previous review, I checked the SSD that is installed on my new laptop. HP specs show this model should have PLIe NVMe SSD, but instead has a TLC SATA SSD installed which to my understanding is a slower, less efficient SSD. HP and/or Best Buy needs to make this right. The laptop has been working great, but I have not yet had a chance to download all of my programs. Now I am worried that it will run slowly leaving me frustrated which is the whole purpose for purchasing a new laptop. I feel duped.

Ok so, I maybe should've looked at this before I bought it online but, oh well. When it comes to laptops you either pay for it to look good and perform mediocre or looks and feels cheap but runs smooth as silk. This is a laptop that looks and feels cheap but the internal specs are amazing. Just a heads up, if you buy this laptop be prepared to get a great package in cheap wrapping.

This laptop is a beast the associate matthew at 18811 Bear Valley Rd, Apple Valley, CA 92308 hooked it up for me. He gave me a AC1200 USB Wireless Adapter Asus brand for $35 cause the connections are Wireless-B, Wireless-G, Wireless-N so that little USB helps alot so I thank Matthew for helping me!

Laptop is quick, and works fine connected to an ethernet cable, but will not connect to wireless. Shows a very low wifi signal, and will only connect if placed within a few feet of the access point. Have run all updates, and even had hp tech check it out, and still no wifi. I am guessing an issue with the antenna inside the unit. This is horrible quality from a brand that used to be great. Very unsure about exchanging it with another, as it seems to be a common issue. Would not recommend to anyone that wants to work wirelessly.

    No 5hz WIFI

In 2018 and with a fairly new laptop, there is no excuse for not including 5hz wifi. Otherwise for the few hours spent it seemed like a good laptop, especially after it was debloated.

HP CUT CORNERS TO MAKE FAST LAPTOP FOR CHEAP

No blacklighting for the keyboard, the screen resolution is very poor, and only 80 gig is usable of the 128 gig solid state hard drive. This is a quick computer for the money, unlike the slow laggy computers you often get for similar money, HOWEVER the biggest issue with this computer is the ANCIENT, SLOW, OUT OF DATE WIFI-hardware. You cannot connect to 5-Ghz wifi on this computer, it is not visible. 22 Mbps was the MAX download speed I could get out of this WIFI, where as on my other HP laptop same network 2.4ghz I am getting 40Mbps and on my 5-Ghz network I am getting 110Mbps! I have not tried to watch Netflix on this yet but I am sure anything in HD would run into big problems! Again this is a quick lap top for the money, the poor wifi is the only thing that will slow this laptop down, but for someone who spends most of their computer time online like most people this will be a big issue!

    This laptop makes no sense.

12gb of RAM and an 8th gen i5 are great and all but they are paired with one of the worst screens I've ever seen on a laptop. The screens max resolution is 1366 x 786 and the colors are paltry. Everything looks washed out and faded on this laptop's display. To pair 12gb of ram and the i5-8250U with such a crappy screen is beyond confusing. This is definitely a business/multitasking machine created for someone with poor eyesight.

Old and out of date parts used

Was told by the sales person that all the laptops they had were capable of connecting to my home 5Ghz WiFi. When I brought it home not only did it not find my 5Ghz network, the network connection card is isn't even upgradeable because of the BIOS settings on the Laptop. Sending back and paying the stupid restock fee. WASTE OF MONEY!

Took over an hour for a video download. Apparently this uses a Wireless N adapter. Why they'd put a decade old adapter in a new device is beyond me. It's 2018, we're at Wireless AC now.
