A different kind of Tom Petty

First and foremost, if you liked the first Mudcrutch album then go ahead and buy this one. You will not be disappointed. It continues much in the same vein as their first release. For those not familiar with Mudcrutch, this is a band that Tom Petty was in before he made it big. The group is a combination of a rock/blues band. The album includes some heartfelt lyrics with a satisfying tune. Be warned, this isn't the Tom Petty show. Mudcrutch really is a band effort and if you are solely looking for a new Petty album then you may be disappointed.

Tom Petty returns with a new Mudcrutch album, and it is pretty dang good. Petty is one of the few current artists that can attempt different projects and make it great. The difference between Vinny Dombrowski (Sponge, CRUD, and The Orbitsuns) is that this could easily be mistaken as a Heartbreakers record...and that isn't a bad thing.

I really enjoyed Mudcrutch's previous album but I think this album is a improvement over it. The best songs on this album are Dreams of Flying, I forgive it all, hope, Hungry no more, and Save your water. This is a good album that comfortably mixes genres from country, folk, and rock, and the playing is excellent throughout.

What does that mean? Well it is Tom Petty. Make no mistake. All the talent is there as well as the vocals. But in this, Mudcrutch's second outing, it's a group effort. A lot of good songs and certainly a lot of talented people with no grandstanding. Quite enjoyable.

Tom Petty and company are back with another good album. They must have a lot of fun when they do one of these Mudcrutch records. Maybe it also helps keep his ego in check by reminding him of when he was just another member of the band. Good stuff.

    Not your typical Petty album...

...which you should already know if you're looking into buying this. Petty has now recorded a second album with the band that pre-dated his solo career. Others take on the vocal duties on some of the songs. The album is a good mix of tunes.

This offshoot group, featuring Tom Petty and Mike Campbell (of the Heartbreakers) continues on the path set on the 2008 relaunch of the group, with distinctive lyrics and Petty and Campbell trading lead vocals.

Good followup album to the first Mudcrutch album. Some Heartbreaker-like rock but also some more Americana songs. Sounds like the band had a good time

This is solid music by topnotch musicians. I think you can hear the affection for the chance to play together again and for the chosen songs.

I'd say a good deal stronger than their first. Has a little more vibe/life than some of TP/Heartbreakers most recent records.

It's simple not overproduced rock. Perfect "intermission" until the next Heartbreakers album.
