The last HP I owned had a battery problem. I tried to go with this model and everything loads up way to slow like it’s old out the box.

Background: I am a high school senior entering my last semester. I wanted something that would support not only my online classes and MS Office, but also moderate web browsing (no gaming or photoshop). I upgraded from an Acer Chromebook that was awesome but limited to Chrome "OS." I received this yesterday, so this is based on a brand new machine. Review: This machine is perfect for what I'm looking for! It is heavier than expected (about the weight of an average textbook) but is just 11.6", meaning I can toss it in my backpack for school. It's aesthetically pretty; the metal lid and black keyboard make me feel way more sophisticated than I am. So far, I have installed MS Office 2016, which works quickly. I also installed Logos 7 Bible Software, which slows it down a little, but I expected the lag because of the program's size. Web browsing is speedy and Netflix loads fast and looks great (priorities). There was a decent amount of bloatware, mostly in the form of games, but it was easy to uninstall even for a Windows 10 newbie like me (although, disclaimer, I was raised by computer programmers and knew Python by age 8; I might be a little biased as to what's "easy"). Because I've been working off Chrome for two years, I still have not ventured into the realm of Edge (using IE at work has me weary of making the jump), but Chrome runs smoothly and even integrated well to the Win10 Mail app and Notifications. The 2 in 1 feature had me nervous, since I need a laptop and not a tablet, but it's been surprisingly pleasant. It autosenses when it's in tablet vs. laptop mode, but it asks before switching. The best way I can describe it is a touchscreen laptop with really flexible hinges; it's far from the HP TouchPad tablet I grew up with. Cortana is also a nice feature; she was easy to set up and seems to act much like the "Okay Google" on my phone. All in all, I'm very impressed and pleased by this machine, at least for the time being.

I purchased this laptop in exchange for another 11-incher that had a god-awful keyboard design where the right shift key was too small and too far out from the home keys. While this may not look as posh as that other one, I am liking it so far. It's relatively lightweight and small enough to carry around effortlessly. The keyboard is nicely laid out, albeit a bit smaller than a traditional keyboard for obvious reasons. The screen seems to also be more responsive to touch than the other laptop. I have yet to try out the Windows Ink thing, but am planning on it. Battery life seems decent so far, and it's been a pleasure using it at work for basic typing, researching, etc. The screen could be a bit more vibrant but it's acceptable. The hinge seems to be a bit loose/flimsy, on mine at least, but maybe it's because of it being a convertible. It had a traditional hard disc drive, which made me think twice about purchasing it. Fortunately, even if it seems like it isn't user upgradeable, I was able to swap it out with a solid state drive. The battery is also easy to replace when that time comes. Unfortunately, upgrading the RAM seems a bit harder from what I saw when it was open. Overall, it's a pretty decent basic laptop for work and school. Had HP put 8 gb of RAM, a 128 gb ssd, a 1080 display with Win Ink, and a backlit keyboard on this 11-inch machine, I would've happily paid $500+ for it.
