I love Geek Squad service! I used to balk at spending extra for extended coverage of purchases, but I’m a firm believer now. In the last 5 years or so, I’ve had a computer and an expensive lens replaced because for free at Best Buy, and with no heartache or arguments. I’ve had one camera repaired, as well. One nice feature of buying Geek Squad protection for cameras is that you get a free camera cleaning once a year for the length of the protection plan. That’s important for digital cameras, which can get annoying dust specks on the sensor over time. I could learn how to clean the sensor myself, but I’d rather have it done professionally rather than take a chance on damaging the sensor. A professional camera cleaning runs $75 or more, so the free cleanings that come with the Geek Squad plan have real value! Online camera or tech sellers offer protection plans that are no doubt good, but with the Geek Squad plans, I don’t have to deal with mailing gear myself. I just make an appointment, walk into the store, explain the problem, and leave everything with the Geek Squad staff! Couldn’t be easier!

Getting this accidental insurance actually works. I accidentally dropped it and the casing broke. I took it in expecting them to replace the casing. Instead they told me to leave the broken one with them and go get a new one!

I typically get the Geek Squad coverage when I shell out a ton of cash for high-end products. Just because you pay more money for a product, doesn't mean it is going to be free from defects. I'm just expecting better performance, bells & whistles, and hope for better build quality. In some cases, like with my cell phone, what can I say, but I'm careless and I break them often. It's good to know that I have coverage in any of those cases. For me, with how fast technology changes, if a product lasts for the life of my additional coverage, then I'm happy. Once the product goes out or is obsolete, I get a new one. As for service under Geek Squad protection, it's pretty much hassle free. In terms of the cost for the additional coverage, it's very reasonable. Pro tip, if you price match with Amazon, I also include the cost for extended protection with Amazon versus BestBuy when getting my price match. BestBuy can't change the cost of the additional protection, but they can lower the price to accommodate the difference. In some cases, I get BestBuy to give me a better overall price. Show me your the best BestBuy.
