Great TV, especially for the price

I've had the TV for a week now and it's been fantastic, especially since it "only" cost $199. It was easy to set-up and everything has worked as expected. The built-in Roku is a huge plus. It's easy to use, responsive, and convenient. Picture quality is great -- no complaints there. Three HDMI slots are another plus, as many sets (especially in this price range) only have two. I can't comment on the built-in speakers I have a great 29 inch Vizio soundbar hooked up to the TV's optical audio slot. This set is an easy recommend, especially in the $200 range.

Worth if for the $180 I paid for a bedroom TV.

For the record, this is my first Roku TV. Set up wasn't bad. I recommend you gather your passwords for your wifi, Netflix, Hulu and whatever other subscription apps you plan on using. You can set up a new Roku account before or during the setup process. Having a laptop nearby could help a bit. You can skip the part where they ask for Credit Card info as well. Be mindful, that many of the apps require individual paid subscriptions. Do some homework on Roku if you're not familiar with it first. Customizing the settings is easy enough, as the user interface is simple and easy to comprehend. The physical TV power button (not the one on the remote) is in very odd location (actually on the back). Not hard to get to once you know where it's at. Have to hold it in for a few seconds to get it to power down, otherwise it takes you to other options. Kinda weird. The remote itself is very basic and simple. Good enough on it's own if you don't have a stereo system or a cable box connected to it. Otherwise, you have to keep those other controllers around or invest in a compatible universal remote. Picture quality is acceptable. Nothing spectacular, yet nothing at all to complain about. Same for the sound. Acceptable for my needs. Three HDMI ports, a coax connection, an Optical port, 1 set of AV RCA connections, a USB port, and a headphone port. This TV has No Bluetooth or Ethernet. That may be a deal breaker to some. But not to me. It has sleep timers and screensaver functions and optional settings. You can set it to start on home screen or where ever you want it to. You can rearrange the apps on the homescreen as well. My only real gripe with the TV is that it is a bit slow. Slow to turn on. Slow to load apps. My Firestick has faster loading. Not sure if it's because it has a weaker WIFI or Processor, but it's simply noticeably slower than the Firestick. The IR sensor for the remote can be picky. Good line of sight is quite needed. Other than it being sluggish, it's satisfying for the $180 I paid for a Roku TV this size on Black Friday 2017. I haven't set up the mobile Roku app on my smartphone, so I can't comment on that just yet. Off sale, I wouldn't pay more than $260 for something in the size and class though. I mostly use Netflix, Hulu, and Plex..but will be exploring some of the "Free" stuff in the coming days.

I have been using the TV for 5 years now and yet to come across any issue. Roku OS runs fast and gets updated frequently. Picture quality is good. Sound is loud and clear. Features are nice including casting and all other apps. Was easy to setup and move around.

Per store policy I was not able to return my broken item. I basically did not get any service out of my product. I have been a exemplary Best Buy customer for years; but now I don't plan on spending my money at Best Buy any more. I am a vet dissatisfied customer.

I read the reviews of the television. Everything I read seemed good. I guess it was my own fault for not understanding Roku. If you don't pay the activation fee, then the television is useless. Returned the television for a Samsung smart television..

The Good and Bad - Be careful

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The tv is really great for the price. The 1080p is great resolution. For me, hookup and setup were easy. Plugged into my cable box, and easily found my wireless router. Like the remote better than expected. Normal channel control will come through your cable or satellite remote. The Roku remote is minimal and does not have any way to tune to stations. It does have volume control, mute, other settings, a Roku home key, controls to select Roku content apps/channels/networks,and a back button. There are limited, though varied, Roku channels, and the good ones charge for content. Not quite as adjustable as I would like, but fine given the cost. The Bad: Be careful: Since the internal speakers are modest, at best, you will need to connect to your home stereo system for decent sound. Getting good sound is difficult. These models do not have RCA audio out connectors. The ones pictured in the description are RCA ins only. Without them, you will either need a digital receiver/amp, or a receiver with an optical cable audio input, or a relatively standard 1/8" (3.5mm) audio cable. The easiest for me was the 1/8' connector. The sound through it is modest, and not up to my standards. I have a relatively dated, though excellent, sound system that is primarily fed by RCA inputs. You could get an optical to RCA converter. I cannot for the life of me figure out why any manufacturer would skimp on the most common standard audio connection for over 50 years, RCA out connections. I'm not sure what I should expect for sub-$200. As far as Roku, I'm relatively pleased. Contrary to what others have said, you can set it up to turn on logged into your cable box, antenna, or satellite. It is a bit inconvenient, as Roku gives you many options of apps to connect to various standard and other networks/channels. Normal start-up is to the Roku home screen. You do have to think about your content a little differently than standard tv, as it has the potential for multiple sources. This is common in other smart tv's. There are some great "pay to play" Roku channels that are tempting. No problem with Netflix, PBS, standard Networks, as long as you have subscriber log ins for them. You will need them. Great TV for my furniture. Fits perfectly. Just, got to have to good sound. You'll need something more to get decent sound. My converter from optical to RCA ran around $10.

This is a great bedroom TV. I had tried out a Hisense 40 non-smart TV and the picture quality and sound on this insignia are way better. Actually the sound is fantastic. I love the Roku interface and how all the TV settings are in there. I really cant see why anyone would complain about this TV. Everything just works. I have seen a few complain here about reboots and the problem is not the TV, it's the Amazon app. The Amazon app has crashed and rebooted on other Roku devices I've owned. Sure wish they would upgrade that app. Netflix and all the other apps work great. Roku version updated to 7.5 My only gripes is its 39 and not 40 in. I really didn't want anything less less than 40. That extra one inch does make a difference.wish it was just a wee bit bigger. The other thing is the lower part of the back panel makes its difficult to mount on my wall. I can mount it fine but I can't put it as high as I'de like because of the lower back panel houses the speakers. But the great sound sort of makes it worth it. If you have it in a bedroom you won't need a soundbar as you do with other TV's.

    Great TV for the Value!

Great TV for the price if you are looking for a TV for the bedroom. The screen is vivid and very clear. The Roku app is very nice in my opinion. I cut my cable a year ago, so Roku is perfect for when I choose to watch any movies on Netflix, Amazon or YouTube videos, plus the thousands of other apps you have access to. I can turn it on and go straight to regular TV option, which I have about 30+ channels to view. Interesting enough I find regular TV has more informative and very educational shows to watch. I had to pay for cable to watch complete stupidity. Overall this is a great product. Insignia has upped their game to compete with other great TV's on the market and have done an exceptional job. Can't beat the price for $199.00 on sale. I'm very glad I took a chance and bought this TV. Definitely would recommend.

This TV is fantastic for the price. The fact that it has Roku built in makes it that much better. It is very quick to use and easy to set up. No issues in that department. The quality is great and screen is crisp.

    Great bedroom TV

With no new game systems out this year, we decided to upgrade our two son's TVs in their rooms which are used primarily for gaming. This TV is about the ideal size for a bedroom, and has a great picture. Our cable provider now requires set top boxes on every TV, and we no longer can get the basic channels through just the coax alone. So, to cut our already outrageous cable costs we did not get set top boxes for the bedrooms. Now, with the Roku feature, our boys have the option to stream shows, and watch TV in their bedrooms once again. I'm weighing my options now as far as the cable company goes. (there are subscription costs to most streaming apps) Who knows, this may be our first step towards cutting the cord.

We've gone with Best Buy's Insignia brand every time we've purchased TVs over the last 12 years, and we've always been pleased with the quality for the price, but this TV is the best one yet!! Absolutely gorgeous color, stunning graphics, great sound, and easy-to-navigate home menu. It also perfectly synced with our WiFi right off, no problems, and had a super-quick and easy initial setup. It's also just beautiful in our great room, even when it's turned off! If we weren't already sold on Insignia brand TVs, we definitely are now!
