Great upgrade from an older DVD. The blu ray transfer is excellent (viewed on 1080 TV), and the steelbook artwork is great. Very happy with this purchase.

I grew up watching this, and continue to annually. It is vulgar at times, but great acting! Personal favorite.

Own this digitally and it is played on TNT or USA for 24 hours every Christmas, but just wanted to own a physical copy of it for when all goes digital, and don't want to be held to miss it because someone's licensing expired. Also one of the greatest Christmas movies, Period.

I recently bought "A Christmas Story" on Bluray disc. I even watched it at home later that night. It was a great movie but it wasn't my first time seeing "A Christmas Story". I have seen the movie so many times since the 1980's on home video and I used to have the movie on VHS but I later upgraded to a 2 disc Special Edition DVD in 2003 and I still have it and now I have the Bluray disc so I have my own Bluray/DVD combo pack of "A Christmas Story" so I have watch it year round and not wait for it to come on cable TV at Christmas time like most people. With the exception of one or two awkward moments in the movie, "A Christmas Story" never gets old. I can also watch "A Christmas Story" on either DVD or Bluray disc and spare myself the commercials when it's shown on TV. Stay well and so long. Seasons Greetings, everyone.

The Christmas story is about a child's dream of receiving the perfect Christmas gift. Ralph wanted the red rider be-be gun for Christmas. Ralph did every thing in his power to try and persuade his parents to purchase one for his Christmas present. His mom stated that be-be guns were dangerous and she didn't want him to shoot his eye out. Then, Ralph tried to convince his teacher to agree with him when writing his Christmas theme 'What I want for Christmas'. She gave him a C+ and stated that he would 'shoot his eye out'. Ralph determined that he must go to the head man in charge Santa and ask for a be-be gun. When Ralph came face-to-face with Santa his mind went blank and he couldn't talk; so, when Santa asked Ralph how about a football, he agreed. When Ralph was put on the slide to exit he stop and climbed back up to ask Santa for a be-be gun and Santa stated you will 'shoot your eye out' kid. Ralph sunk in disbelief that Santa would say that. However, on Christmas Ralph received his dream and as fate would have it he did what was stated. Ralph shoot his glasses off his head when the pellet ricochet of an object and struck his glasses. He stated oh no I shoot my eye out.

A classic with classic performances: Darren McGavin as the grumpy old father; Melinda Dillon as the worrying mother; Peter Billingsley as a questor after a holy grail (the Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle); Scott Schwartz as Flick, the bully with the yellow eyes. The performances are mish-mashed with hilarious events like sticking a tongue on a frozen light pole, sitting on Santa's lap, and writing a school composition (among others).

A great flashback on childhood memories

A zillion years have passed and we still enjoy this Christmas movie, and now it's on Blu-ray. It centers on a youngster's desire to have a Red Ryder BB rifle for Christmas despite opposition to the contrary--- because "you'll shoot your eye out!" This movie holds the memories of childhood - camraderie (where all your buddies suddenly disappear when bully Sid Farkas comes calling or when you manage to freeze your tongue on a flagpole in a dare), those unmentionable embarrassing family moments, the annual visit to the Dept. store Santa, and the disillusionment when the super secret cypher message on the magic decoder turns out to be an advertisement. Probably a testament to the influence of this great comedy and flashback is that someone on my son's street put up a leg lamp in their picture window last Christmas. Based on the childhood of writer Jean Shepherd, there are plenty of memories for all. A keeper.

Now this isn't a movie review, if you want that you can either check out my brief movie reviews on Instagram @thedappermanreviews or soon to be YouTube page at The Dapper Man Reviews. This is more of a review on the actual product. For starters it is a steel book case which always looks nice, even if the picture printed on it, isn't a high definition picture. It is a DVD/Blu-Ray edition with a HD Download that will expire in December 2018. now the bonus features are exactly the same as the two-disc plastic case, just this is more sleek. Nothing else really to add, but one I never knew until watching the commentary, Bob Clark the director of this film is the same as the movie, "Porky's", a raunchy Canadian film I have no desire to see. So enjoy the holidays with this classic!
