Having the extra is really only needed if your taking the console away from your charging dock for prolonged amounts of time. I have heard people say you can use normal phone chargers for this purpose. However I've had no luck with it providing enough juice to actually charge using my usbc phone cord. Otherwise this charger works wonders

Need it for docking station

Definitely worth having for your "work room" and travel.
