    Perfect for Browsing at home

A great substitute in exchange for a netbook when one wants to prop up in bed and browse the internet while watching tv at the same time. Great in any part of the house and easy for travel. If you like google apps. and playing around online get this. Don't buy this thinking it is another laptop with a windows enviroment. It's simply what it is (for internet usage as it's main focus..however you can add music, videos and photos to view offline) If you just want to get online and don't wish to pay the high cost of some tablets (most don't come with keyboards and have to be purchased separately) Then this will work for you and you won't have to pay an arm and leg. Takes a bit of getting use to the touchpad...but if your computer saavy and don't mind watching the tutors, you get the hang of it fast. Normally a mouse user..this machine finally got me using a touchpad and I rather like it when I'm just relaxing and don't want to have to hook up more equipment and find room to glide the mouse. And with the keyboard part of the machine, you'll get to compose email ect. online with ease (unlike with a tablet unless you purchase a keyboard)..as onboard keyboards can make composing email slower. I love this little machine and I have grown very fond of google apps. There is tons to do online these days and this could keep you happy in times of boredom.

Interesting operating system, but not for me

This is a nice little computer for someone with simple online needs and who doesn't use many non-Google programs. The display is glossy and quite sharp.....although I noticed that the screen wobbled a bit when I walked past it, which was a tad annoying. It was sitting on a study drawer. I thought Google did a good job with the online help documentation. Text was well-written and features explained clearly. I returned this computer because I missed all the Windows features I've come to know and use over the years, such as Homegroup, and various 3rd party programs like Firefox. There are simply too many limitations to the Google Chrome OS at this time for someone like me. I also don't like configuring all my computer activities thru one company, Google. The Windows OS, for all its faults, at least is FAR more configurable.

If you need a computer to only surf the net or send/receive emails, this $200 cormputer is good for you, as long you can read its small screen and have some time to explore its features. The documentations and instructions are very poor, practically none so you are on your own. I had a very hard time to print or to save files. The computer makes a good gift for ma, pa and grandma because of its light weight (and price) because they can get connected to the family but you have to invest sometime in teaching them how to use it, as long as they can read the small screen. If you think you can use this computer for anything else, you are dead wrong! You can't install windows on it. Period. You better buy a similar windows 8 (or 7) computer with 4 GB RAM for less than $300 then install the free Google chrome on it. This way, you'll have a normal user friendly computer with Google chrome: hit 2 birds with one stone.

I am extremely unhappy about not being able to get the job app for my substitute teaching job. The app rings a bell when a job is ready for me and it saves me from doing job searches. That was the reason why I chose this small and convenient computer. I planned on taking this on trips and on vacation instead of a larger laptop which was able to download the App just fine. The second issue was that my credit union statement will not open on this computer. I really needed that while out of town. Chromebook is not compatible for this either. I am extremely disappointed with the above problems and would like to return this product and get something I can use. I feel the salespeople did not properly explain how different this product is.

I bought this for my 14 year old son. I knew it was limited but I had no idea HOW limited. IF you want just to send and receive e-mails, cruise the web, pay bills, etc, this is an OK option. However, if you want to do ANYTHING with entertainment like music, vids, etc, it is severely lacking. Google has a strangle hold on this machine as exemplified by the nonsensical search results where half the results are marked as not legal for use or viewing. Again, if you just want to get your mail, do a little shopping, and bow down to Google God, where ever he may be, then this is the computer for you! YES, I am returning it this morning for a real laptop.

If you just want to use this just for the internet this is the laptop for you. If you like to get on Skype or oovoo then do not get this laptop it does not allow it. it is VERY different from windows. I like windows much better and this laptop does not have a s music player it does but its confusing. its very fast and the camera is excellent. And you MUST have a internet to access everything, you have to use Google drive I would not recommend using that personal reasons. if you are a college student and you like going out to like a park etc don't choose this you will no be able to type a paper without an internet connection.

The whole program is managed by Google. You cannot set up your own account without a Google username and password. I have one that it would not accept and would not let me pick a new one. After many attempts I called Acer and they were not helpful at all and said I have to call back during the day when the people that know about this problem work. The next day after several attempts it finally accepted my Google account information. Touch pad is VERY jumpy, ultra sensitive. An external mouse barely works at all except if you have 10 ft. long arms. I checked this out on the internet and it is a well documented problem

I bought this computer for my 5th grade daughter for Christmas. We had difficulty with the touch pad right away. After a while, we realized that it operated with very different gestures than most. Learning those gestures helped but in the end, the touch pad would lock up and no longer move. Rather than struggle with it, we returned it to Best Buy for an exchange as recommended by a member of the Geek Squad. We have ordered a replacement and hope not to run into the same problem.

It is a nice computer. I got it for my wife in nursing school. Microsoft office is NOT compatible. No matter how nice google docs is, a student needs Microsoft word. Formatting in APA, or MLA with google docs is a nightmare. Hanging indents are torture...so its not good for students, but as like an extra computer(if you are so rich) then yeah I guess....I thought it would be great, but I can tell she is a little disappointed...so am I. Fast though..Also unless you have a cloud printer this thing will not print. You either have to have another computer or you are kinda screwed...

Thank you for the review. The Chrome OS is certainly different however Google provides these essentials that we're use to for free. As an example, Google Drive is a great tool for Documents and Spreadsheets.acer

I purchased this computer for games on the web such as pogo but I can't play most of the games because a number of them require java and well you can't put it on there. Also the shockwave crashes a lot. Other than that its very fast just remember its not windows so you can't use any of their products. It's a Linux..... I think this comp would be great if you also have a google phone but I'm still trying to figure out how to put on apple. If u need a cheap comp just to surf the net then this is for you!!

Overall, I like the product. However, when i first turned it on, I noticed two dead pixels on the screen. I went back to Best Buy to exchange. Came back home and to my surprise, the one I got as an exchange had a big dead pixel right on the center! To make a long story short, I went back to Best Buy a total of four times, but I finally gave up after finding out my fourth one had two dead pixels on the screen!! Next time, I will have to turn on the computer at the store.

I bought this laptop not really noticing it was a WiFi only operated computer. All you can really use is the camera and calculator. So, if you have no wifi in your area you are stuck with a really large camera and expensive calculator. You can NOT download any software, unless its from the Google Webstore. I would only recommend this to someone who likes to email and view videos online. It's like a tablet only with a keyboard attached.

This isnt a student friendly notebook. Forget using Microsoft Suite on this thing, you will drive yourself crazy. everything is literally an internet tab so if youre not connected to the internet you cant even use google docs. But for $200 you dod get your money's worth. its fast and netflix works! I had to exchange for another. I couldnt get any work done on it.

This is just worth the value of the product. The chromebook offers very limited features. Especially for a person who has used a laptop with full features all the while, this might seem very limited on the feature set. again, that's what a browser OS can do. I expected a lot more from the extensions and plugins that could go in but was disappointed.

There is a learning curve if you are not a Chrome user. I am a Microsoft person. None of the applications I am familiar with is not there. The most disappointment is cannot use Skype, which is the primary reason I bought the device. All of my family and friends are on Skype, which is my primary communication tool with them.

the lack of a flashable bios and in ability to put anything powerful on this box other than chrubuntu 12.04 is disturbing to me.. Why would Google lock down this laptop so that it cannot be used with other operating systems?????? This is one i might send back .. the first of maybe 50 boxes

I love this thing. But as I am a college student who needs windows documents this is not compatible. Overall it is good to have to check email accounts like facebook, and any Google accounts. Don't know how to use the webcam that's built in yet. No real instructions on how supplied.

UNABLE TO DOWN LOAD SKYPE & KASPERSKI SECURITY. MOSTLY CAUSE PRODUCE KEEPS DISCONNECTING FROM MY WI-FI NETWORK EVEN THOUGH IT IS A SECURE NETWORK. NEVER HAD GOOGLE PRODUCT BEFORE, ALWAYS HAD MICROSOFT SO GETTING FAMILIAR WITH GOOGLE HAS BEEN PAINFUL FOR ME.

Thank you for the review. Unfortunately, there are not official Skype or Kasperski clients for the Chrome OS. For Skype, there are web based instant messengers that will allow you to access and communicate with your contacts. Chrome OS is completely different than a Windows based OS which is why antivirus and security applications like Kasperski are not available.acer

I was ready to accept the limitations of a Chromebook, such as no easy Skype solution. Functioned as promised, but I found the mouse squirelly to use and the speakers less than adequate. Really had to debate, as price was right, but ended up returning it.

nice laptop it is fair priced and fairly fast but I hate and I mean hate the windows 8 and the tools that pop up on the side of the screen it does things on its own especially when you don't want them to.
