CBG516-2H (2nd gen version) will not update

There is an issue with the 2nd gen version of this laptop that is preventing it from updating, meaning you will be stuck on chromeos version 122 (3 full versions behind the current stable version 125). With google and acers track records this could be fixed tomorrow.....or 6+ months from now. I dont really recommend buying this until this issue is fixed. That said; The latptop itself is pretty decent, the 8gb of ram is a little disappointing but its still snappy, runs cool and quite, and has decent battery life (I can get about 9 hours of geforce now streaming over wifi with 70% brightness). My only real complaint, apart from the update issue, is the flex in the keyboard area. There is a very noticeable bend inward when resting your palms on the device to type.

      Dear bdodroid,
The upgrade process is controlled by Google, but if you are not able to update there could be an issue in the settings. This is not the experience we want our customers to have and we would like to help you get this resolved. Great chromebook so far. Battery life could be better, but the included charger charges it fast. The fan was loud once, which i fixed by restart. I like the matte screen, it is easy on the eyes.

Nice Chromebook with a 16" Screen & Big Keys

I'm not a gamer but I like it for the big (16") screen and good performance with multiple windows open in Chrome. Acer left off some keys to allow the rest of the keys to be larger - there is no Delete key but the new "Everything" key (it has a big white dot and replaces the Launcher or Search key) modifies Backspace to be the forward Delete. A nice Chromebook feature is the open, when you start the Chromebook, to restore the windows that were open when you shut down. This is convenient for ensuring that the VPN starts up every time I start.

    Gamer Chromebook

I bought this Chromebook strictly for the resolution. I'm not a huge gamer but starting to dabble a bit. The graphics are awesome at this pricepoint and the refresh rate is very good. The Intel 5 can handle anything you throw at it. Battery life is decent but could be better...not a deal breaker for me. Obviously you can spend thousands on something else but, I stuck to my budget! So far very impressed and would definately recommend.

I am a retired person with limited computer savvy. I always disliked the convoluted , bloated and slow Windows operating system. I use my laptop computer primarily for research, shopping, entertainment, and word processing. The Chrome operating system performs these tasks well, and faster than the Windows operating system. I am glad that I switched to this Chromebook Plus. I would recommend it to others.

Waited 2 months before giving this review. The Acer Chromebook is fast and can run several windows at the same time. There are a couple of issues that I have discovered that warrant the missing star. The black glossy cover shows fingerprints like mad. There is no SD/MSD slot. My screw up that I thought this was a touch screen (Not). If you are comfortable with the Chromebook IO this is an almost great machine.

I owned the prior version Acer 526 GE and use it for general work and software development. Zoom, Microsoft 365, all work perfectly. The keyboard and screen are great. I like all the connectivity (USB, HDMI, wired and wireless, sound...), and it's surprisingly light for a bigger screen. I was pleased that the newer version is great as well. I think the specs might be a little better (CPU version) and it's a little more stylish in the touchpad rim, but basically it's the same great machine. I use them both in different locations. With chromebook, my passwords etc are shared automatically. I can't speak to gaming capability, but for a general business and leisure machine, it's perfect.

    CLOUD gaming...

Overall I really like this Chromebook. I like the large size, nice screen, back lit keyboard, light weight, pretty responsive. I miss the number pad but not a deal breaker. As I said, this is for CLOUD gaming, Not direct play. Which is fine for me.If you are looking to run any graphic heavy game - it's not made for that. Xbox game pass games should run fine. The price was good, on sale always helps any purchase! Only downside I have found is possibly on me. Sometimes it seems the touch pad doesn't always pick up my fingers command. But I do have callused fingers which may explain that. I would buy it again!

Nice machine, especially for the sale price. It serves my purpose of taking online classes. I like that you can slide customize the machine, This is my second Chromebook. The difference in speed between Chromebook and Chromebook Plus is significantly better.

I use it for web traffic, spreadsheets, email, composing and such. I have fast wifi. It is also far easier to use than a windows based laptop. Don’t think I will buy another windows machine. It is much easier to use and at least as quick as my wife’s apple laptop. I am not a gamer but did try a couple games and it seems to work fine. I recommend it.

Great price . Long battery life. Backlight on keyboard is very weak but that is okay since it would be too distracting. I just set it to one color (orange) and it works great.
