Sleek Performance Meets Enduring Design
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using the Acer Chromebook Spin 714 since November 27, 2023, and it's become an essential tool for both my personal and professional life. The performance is outstanding - it's fast, quiet, and handles multitasking with ease. The standout feature for me has to be the screen; it's stunningly bright and offers spectacular luminance, making every task more enjoyable. As for the design, it's sleek and modern. Transitioning to ChromeOS was a breeze, and I've grown to love its simplicity and efficiency. Battery life is another high point, easily lasting over two days on standby, and it's yet to die on me during use, which is impressive. The touchscreen adds a layer of convenience and responsiveness that I didn't realize I needed, but now can't do without. Overall, I think it's perfect as is, a testament to Acer's commitment to quality and user experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable and beautifully designed Chromebook!

Bargain value
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ordered to use for school. The order arrived within the quoted time. I compared this laptop with many others and I found that this was by far the one with quality features for a fraction of the cost. I found that the processing speed was more than efficient to handle multiple open tasks with no lagging. I have even had movies playing while maneuvering through different tasks and still no lagging. In my opinion, the big difference between this laptop and others was the feature to flip the keyboard back and use the laptop as a large tablet and using the touchscreen feature. The flip feature has come in handy when drawing being that it is easier to precisely draw with the laptop folded. A touchscreen was a must for me because it was easier to download assignments and write on the laptop using a stylus. It has saved me printer ink and paper because I can complete the assignment online using my own handwriting. The privacy shutter is one of my favorite things because I can log into a class or zoom and have the privacy shutter closed and easily open when I’m ready to be seen. I know this isn’t necessary but I love the feature and knowing it is closed all the time unless I need to use it. The screen clarity will not disappoint! The clarity of this screen is crisp & clear & great quality. The backlit keyboard was useful when sitting in the bed or in a darker lit place but it wasn’t a big deal if I didn’t have it. I like the laptop protector which isn’t a selling point but more of a bonus. I like the soft cushion and protective feature & that it had an extra pocket on the outside. It was perfect for carrying my stylus and a couple other small items. I have not had any issues with my purchase nor any complaints about the quality of the product. Needless to say, I am more than pleased.

The most complete chromebook for me. I highly reco
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The best chromebook i have used. Im able to edit and make videos on it. Which for its price and being a chromebook is amazing. Something that i have wanted to be able to do for a while. And I am able to do that on this chromebook. It is the absolute bes chromebook I have ever used. The keyboard has decent travel for being so thin. Port selection is nice. But you take up one of the 2 usb c ports when you plug it in to charge. The only 2 major issues I have with it is 1. the lack of an sd card slot. Not being able to expand the storage is a little bit of a killer. But the amout of processing power and the capabilities of this chromebook outway that, at least for me. 2. The battery life is a little lack luster. Somedays it is almost 8 hours. Some days its 2hours. And that is not doing heavy task. But I am able to over look those 2 things because of performance and capabilities of this chromebook. Especially for the price. I'm able to do the same stuff on this as what a $1000+ laptop cost. Now im not lugging a 8lb msi around to do video/picture editing and writing. Even gaming using emulator and android apps run great. Ps2 emulation is even great. Beyond happy with this purchase. I would highly recommend this to anyone want a fully capable chromebook to conquer just about every task. I say just about because I have yet to find something it can't do. But im sure someone will at some point if they push it hard enough.

Nice machine with a few flaws.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A good machine but with a few issues: 1. Even at top volume, the sound is too quiet. If there is a fan on in the room, I have trouble hearing a movie. 2. When the lid is open, the computer does not sit flat. Most of the weight is on the edge of the lid. This would not be a big deal, except that I rest the laptop on my legs when I use it, and the edge of the lid is quite sharp. I have to move the laptop every few minutes because of the painful red lines that it digs into my legs.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have not yet attempted to put it under strain but overall good first impressions. Runs fast enough for me and colors are vivid enough. Touch screen works very well and there were no issues with the initial startup. Overall, I believe it will last me a long time without need for upgrade.

Not in excellent condition.

Great purchase!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love it! The image is clear and crisp. At first I thought is was a little small for my taste but I think it is more convenient to bring back and forth to work. I like the fact that it includes an HDMI port as well as the USB. I am a teacher and it is perfect fir accessing google content and creating lesson slides.

Acer Spin 714 (CP714-2W) so far so good.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The new Acer Chromebook Spin 714 is pretty nice so far. Well-built, full-flip, seems durable and fast. Disappointed that it doesn’t come with a stylus or mouse (as other Spin714’s seem to?) but GorillaGlass touch screen works well with finger. Should be perfect for high schooler’s work.

Checks all the boxes
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer Spin 714 (CP714-2W-56B2) comes well packaged in a small box. You get the laptop, case and the charging cord. The charging cord is USB-C which I LOVE! The cord is over 10 feet long which should reach from most outlets. I say this checks all the boxes of what I look for the following reasons: - fast processor. The i5 1335U is a solid and fast processor. 10 cores and 4.6 gigahertz. - small and light. This is 14" and 3.02 pounds. - sufficient RAM with a minimum of 8GB. This has 8GB of ram. The ram is DDR4. - sufficient storage of at least 256 GB. This has 256 GB PCIe 4.0. - touchscreen. This is a touchscreen. And the screen is Gorilla Glass. It is also a 2 in 1 so you can use it in tablet mode. I do not use this feature so it does not matter to me. - decent graphics. The screen is 1900 x 1200. It is an IPS LCD screen. The graphics processor is Intel Iris Xe. You are not going to be playing complicated games most likely. But video will be fine. I played lots of videos. - good connections. I like to have HDMI to connect my laptop to a TV or monitor. This has HDMI 2.1. There is also 1 USB-A and 2 USB-C. If you need more USB, there are lots of cheap hub options out there. - backlit keyboard. The keyboard is backlit. I like to be able to adjust the brightness of the backlight. This does not have that feature as far as I can tell. - great battery life. I played over 8 hours of video for a test and that left 6% of battery life. Normal usage should be at least 10 hours but I did not test this. I find the video test gives me a good indication of how long the battery will last. This should last all day with no problems. - decent sound. I found the laptop falls short here. The videos did not sound as good as they could. It was OK but not great. It could be better. It is DTS audio. - headphone jack. I use both wireless and wired headphones. Having a headphone jack is a definite plus. - decent video calling. I tried a video call and it was perfect. The front facing camera is clear. Per the Acer website "dual microphone array, and a built-in MIPI 2K webcam with a privacy shutter and temporal noise reduction technology". My call was outdoors and there were no complaints about hearing me speak clearly. - wireless connectivity options. There is Bluetooth. The Acer website indicates it supports 6E. I do not have a 6E router so cannot test this. But it it futureproof as 6E is the current fastest standard. Overall I rate this 4.5 out of 5 stars. I deduct one star as the audio was not up to my expectations. If that does not matter to you, then 5 stars would be appropriate.

A good, not a great, Chromebook.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Here are my observations. - This is not a lightweight or thin machine like Apple's Air. Not even close. It's heavy and has some bulk to it. - This is not a great road warrior machine and based on its build, with an HDMI port, suspect Acer believes most people will use it as a desktop. - The Gorilla Glass screen is outstanding. It has a nice solid feel and is perfectly responsive to touch. -- The keyboard and touchpad are so-so. Good enough, but nothing like the keyboard experience of a Pixelbook Go. -- Based on some reviews I read, I thought 714 came with a stylus, but apparently not. So expect to spend extra for one. -- I did get a USI 2.0 stylus and it seems to working just great. I use this for writing in tablet mode, one half of the screen for a writing app, either Squid or Cursive, and the other half either a PDF, Kindle Book or Chrome. Works good. -- The speakers are poor to so-so. -- The performance with the i5 and 8GB ram is very good. This set a new Octane level (you can still find this benchmark) for me around 80K. Not bad. The machine is fast, responsive. -- The colors, brightness and sharpness of the screen are all good. -- Overall: It performs well. It's not a great machine to lug into a coffee shop or on a plane, but it's not impossible either. I'm kindof suprised that the 714 ended up on top of many best of lists. It does have hardware specs that many other Chromebooks do not. But it's bulk is a limiting factor. It may just be that there are so few Chromebooks with these hardware specs, that it stands out. . What I want: I'd really like a Chromebook with the 714's specs, a depth that's half the size of this iteration, and a little lighter. The Pixelbook Go had it right, but it wasn't a convertible, which was very limiting.

Premium Chromebook
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Specs details: This is a premium machine with state of the art specs, that happens to run Chrome OS: • The screen is a 16:10 HD: 1920 X 1200.touchscreen. Moving away from 16:9 (1080p) form-factor, which is much better for editing documents, and while watching movies, I appreciate the controls remain outside the viewing area. • Tablet mode: The 'Spin' in the name indicates this is a convertible laptop, so when folded with the screen on top, the keyboard becomes disabled, and one uses it via touchscreen. The screen has a gorilla glass (like phones) with a antimicrobial coating. • The keys are island style, backlit, with the ChromeOS distribution. It's very comfortable to type with. • Trackpad is large and responsive, with a smooth glass surface. Very nice to work with. • Ports: On the left: One Thunderbolt/USB-C 4, HDMI, headphone and power button. On the right: One Thunderbolt/USB-C 4, USB-3 and volume rocker. • The sound (With DTS label) comes from speakers above the keyboard next to the screen. • Charging is via one of the thunderbolt/USB-C ports. It comes with a typical laptop-size charger that has an USB-C port, and also worked by charging from an USB-C dock. • Wi-Fi: Supports the newer WiFi 6E. • Storage is via an M2 type SSD: 256 GB. • RAM is 8 GB. • Bluetooth 5.1. • The CPU is an 13th gen Intel Core i5, and is 'Evo' compliant: Evo is an approval mark by Intel for systems that support current state of the art specs like higher-end Intel embedded graphics, Thunderbolt 4 and WiFi 6E, with a rated 10 hours battery life. Because the ports are Thunderbolt, I was able to use both Thunderbolt and USB-C docks. The laptop also has a 2K web camera which has a built-in cover (An actual plastic piece covering the camera behind the glass. Activated though a notch on top of the screen. It also comes with a sleeve case to carry it in a backpack. Fit and finish: The case is all metal and the screen all glass. Hinges fold 360 degrees so it can work in tablet mode (ChomeOS switch to a tablet mode). It can also be set in a tent shape or with the keys pointing to the table when watching videos. The hinge, edges and Acer logo are finish in a subtle rose gold that look very tactful. Note that it also supports stylus made for Android/Chromebook (Those are different from Windows stylus or iPad ones). ChromeOS: Although initially it was basically a way to run the chrome web browser, within the last few years it can also run Android apps. Many android apps work well within a laptop screen, and with Intel 64-bit CPUs. And now in beta, it also runs Debian Linux within a Virtual Machine, which also supports complex GUI applications like Microsoft Visual Studio Code. This works by either using apt-get from the Linux console or by downloading a .deb package. So within Chrome apps, Android and Linux there isn't much it cannot do. ChromeOS is generally very secure, and is fairly straightforward to restore the laptop to like it came from the factory. Much of the system is 'read-only', and that makes it more resilient. Keep in mind that ChromeOS, for much of its functionality requires internet connectivity, although there's plenty that can also be done offline as well. Also keep in mind that Google collects plenty of data from Chrome. In return, a lot of what’s done on the device is backed up and synced into Google's cloud, so working on different devices or replacing a Chromebook is also a lot simpler. Overall, I'm very impressed with this laptop and how capable ChromeOS is while being very secure. The multiple-personality of the system running Chrome and web applications, Android and Linux is great but there are occasionally some rough areas in how these coexist, although it's been very good overall and it keeps improving. The hardware in this laptop is top of the line, comparable with a business laptop. Consider this if looking for a premium Chromebook or even considering a high-end Android tablet, as it also runs Android and Linux.

I kinda hate it
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Been using this chromebook for a month and although it is sturdy, quick, and responsive, I have two major problems with it. Firstly, the screen is so frickin reflective! It's impossible to use outside, and even inside the reflection gets in the way of easy viewing. Secondly, it's ridiculously hard to open. I understand the edges need to be flat for the "tent" configuration, but I don't want to struggle every time I want to use it. The difficulty is actually a deterrent to use the chromebook at all. I don't have a stylus so I cannot comment on that piece. Unfortunately this is pretty much the best quality the market for the screen size, so I'm stuck without a good NON-2-IN-1 alternative option. I wish I'd never bought it and kept using my old laptop even though it ran out of updates.

Solid Choice!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer - Spin 714 2-in-1 14" Touch-Screen Chromebook with Intel i5 1335U, 8Gig Memory and 256GB Solid State Driveis a solid choice. Acer has really stepped up with this unit. This Chromebook has solid performance, a solid feel yet still lightweight and easily portable and manueverable. The Chromebook DNA has always relied more on cloud and online access and less on locat storage. Having said that, on first look one might think the 8 Gig memory and 256 Gig SSD drive might feel a bit slim, but for general use, it's more than adequate. With no moving parts (other than the hinge between screen and keyboard) this a great for portability. As for the keyboard (see pics), it has a good backlight. Very nice for the late-night work sessions while your spouse counting sheep. The screen is bright and viewable from multiple angles. While not 4K, the Full HD is perfectly adequate for most all internet and casual use. The processer is a nice step up. It will be more than necessary for most all casual use. The Spin 714 also comes with a nice case. Handy for protecting the device while traveling. End of the day, this is a great option for casual and student use. I would reccomed to a friend.

A Solid, Flexible Chromebook
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m a Windows compatible girl from way back, ever since I found out that the Macs like my school used in Computers class was WAY too expensive for someone with a minimum wage job. (You can also tell my age by the fact that I use terms like “Windows Compatible”.) My children use Chromebooks in school; they provide them for the students to use for all classwork. Of course, they wanted Chromebooks for their home laptops as well. I purchased an Acer 315 for my oldest, and an Acer Spin 311 for my middle-schooler. The 311 was a replacement for an HP Chromebook that I purchased that the hinge fell apart with normal use. These are very durable laptops. The Acer Spin 714 is no exception. The display uses Corning Gorilla Glass. That is a big selling point for me. The body is a good size, easy to hold, and is sturdy. This is important if this is the laptop you take with you places as my children do. It comes with a basic laptop sleeve, which is nice. I purchased a Logitech Pebble mouse to use with it – it paired easily with the 714. There are USB-C ports on either side; this allows you to plug in the power cord in on whichever side is most convenient. I appreciate that it also an USB-A port, an HDMI port, and a standard headphone jack. It allows flexibility for those who would rather not Bluetooth everything. The display is clear. The audio, though, is lacking. It doesn’t get loud enough for me. As a student, you may want to use headphones more often, anyway, but if you want to use this for media, it’s not great. The ability to fold flat to use as a tablet is a great feature. It’s easier to use to sit and watch TV on it – you can use it in an A-shape to have the laptop sit in tablet mode for easier use. The touch screen is very responsive. It does not have a numeric keypad, but I don’t miss it for what I use the computer for. I would say that this is a solid choice for students and those who just want a flexible laptop that travels well and accommodates both old school ports and new school technology.
