This is my first Chromebook. I've had it for about three weeks. I have access to a Windows computer but have been using the Chromebook 90% of that time.
I am very pleased with the speed of it. I shopped for an Intel processor, with ample memory and generous storage (for a Chromebook) and this system fits the bill.
It starts up instantly and is ready for action. It's virtually silent. The only time I've noticed the fan is a brief fraction of a second as the system starts up after having been powered off.
The most process intensive work I've done on it was editing video using a popular Android Play Store app. There were a couple of lock-ups at first, but may have had to do with me learning the app. I've been able to edit a few short videos without issue since.
I generally only use computers to browse the web, check email and watch video. This system handles all that without a hitch.
I haven't timed how long the system takes to charge, but it's fast, and seems to match the specs that are published. Fast charge, great battery life.
Some reviews of this particular system are critical of the lack of ports. This system does have an HDMI port, taking up real estate where a second USB A might be better placed, depending on preferences. While one might not be so inclined to use the HDMI as much as a second USB, others may like the option. It's nice that it's there, and a USB hub can always be used if needed.
I have paid a little attention to Chromebooks over the years since they first started entering the market. I am impressed with how far they seem to have come and readily recommend them as an alternative to PC or Mac.

This is a great Chromebook -- nice size ... not too little, not too big ... useful for my online college classes I teach ... great for Facebook or other online activities ... handles having 10 or 15 tabs all open at once (or more) ... responsive!! Yes, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a great laptop alternative !

Really solid Chromebook. Beautiful screen. Adequate keyboard. Underwhelming but serviceable speakers. The speakers are really designed for when it's in tablet/media consumption mode. Then they are facing the user and the tent amplifies the sound somewhat.
The performance is excellent. It runs linux VMs perfectly and the android performance seems good. Love the aspect ratio and the colors are vibrant.

The new standard in Chromebooks

*I'd give this 4 1/2 stars if I could but oh well.*
By now we've all heard everyone give their piece on this device, and for the most part it's all been accurate. Yes, the screen is amazing. Yes, the build quality is great. Yes the performance is best in class for Chromebooks. And yes, the speakers are lackluster, as well as the webcam and microphone. With that being said though, I think my perspective might be helpful to let other people get a better idea of how actually using the device is like.
I've had this Acer for a bit over two weeks now and I think my opinions on it have been properly cemented. This is, without a doubt, the best Chromebook I have ever used. In fact, considering its pricing, it may be the best value for a brand new laptop I've ever had. The price of this Chromebook blows me away. I believe that if this laptop was $150, maybe $200 more no one would bat an eye. It's really a high tier Chromebook with a mid tier pricing. In my opinion this laptop is so good that it makes it impossible to justify getting a more expensive Chromebook. There's still plenty reasons for the cheaper Chromebooks, but anything past this is too much because due to diminishing returns.
Anyway, moving on from the pricing is the device itself. Like I said, this thing exudes quality. It looks quite nice, if a bit understated. It feels really solid in your hands, living up to it's MIL rating. No flex from what I can find. The hinge really impressed me. I've never had a hinge this stable on a convertible device before, there's no wobble in sight. Thanks to its 3:2 aspect ratio I find that the tablet mode to be quite usable compared to other convertible laptops. I don't use all the time, but it's nice to have. Though I wouldn't say its too heavy, you'll notice the difference compared to a real tablet, but that goes without saying. The glass trackpad is as smooth as silk and has a satisfying, solid click. The keyboard as well, is satisfactory. Definitely one of the better Chromebook keyboards out there. Many online reviewers talk about key travel and all that, but I never been too picky about that so take what I say as you will. Also, I really appreciate the variety in ports. It's nice to an HDMI port on a Chromebook again.
Now onto the screen, the big kahuna. Man oh man, what a nice screen. Honestly, this is as good as it needs to be. Anything else for the average computer user is beyond overkill. The resolution looks perfect to my eyes, without a pixel to be found. The clarity is out of this world, and the colors are saturated and vibrant. If you want this thing can get brighter than the sun. I've seen people say it has a nit rating of 400-450 and from my experience that is true. I have yet to need for it to be cranked to full brightness. I only have two real complaints about it. First is that the color temperature favors the warmer side. That's just a personal gripe as I prefer a cooler screen temperature and there's no real way to change it in ChromeOS. The other complaint I have with it is that it sometimes, rarely, has screen glitches. These glitches are like half a second where a part of UI flickers. Again, this happens rarely and from what I've read is common amongst Chromebooks and goes away with time. Personally, it doesn't bother me too much, but I have noticed it so I thought I should include that.
Speaking of ChromeOS, this thing flies with it. Nothing I've thrown at it slows it down. It might be one of the most buttery smooth experience I've had computing. The specs on the Spin 713 makes use of ChromeOS to the fullest. Again, to reiterate what I've said a few times before, this is as good as it gets without being overkill. I know many people were concerned about the fan, but the only time I ever hear it is when I power it on. Literally, I never hear the fan in use. It also never really gets hot. It can get a little warm if the vents are blocked or if you use it heavily while charging. Other than that though, it stays pretty cool normally.
Finally, we get to the not so stellar things. Namely, the speakers and the webcam. Yeah, it's not too good here, but I do think some people have blown it out of proportion. Speakers aren't typically known to be good on Chromebooks anyway and it's not too different here. So the speakers do lack bass, however I wouldn't say they're "tinny" or "muffled" like everyone else has stated. The connotation of it being tinny implies that it sounds shrill or it has distortion, at least to me anyways. Muffled would mean that it doesn't sound clear. That is not the case here. These speakers provide sufficient clarity, and have not distorted on me once. People might be calling it muffled due to the fact it has bottom-firing speakers which can be obstructed depending on your use. My real issue with it is the fact that they are too quiet. Believe me when I say that you'll never lower your volume from the max. Going back on how the speakers are bottom-firing, I really think that plays a part in why the speakers sounds quiet. Setting the laptop on a table sounds quite a bit louder than when it's on your lap. However, it's not enough of a difference to say that it's properly "loud" even in the right setting. The fact of the matter is that these speakers are quiet. However, keeping the volume at max as well as whatever video player's volume to max has been workable for me. I think they sounded a bit quieter when I first got this, but after a couple weeks the speakers have broken in and the volume is fine now. Still quieter than I'd like, but at least I haven't had any real issue of not being able to hear it. (Side note, I have no idea why they made the speakers bottom firing. There's absolutely enough room to put them above the keyboard.)
There's not much I can say about the camera. It's not good, plain and simple. It's not the worst I've seen, but still far from good. I'd say it's about the same as every other camera on a Chromebook. Maybe if ChromeOS actually offered a way to adjust the camera setting it'd be salvageable, but it doesn't. I never need to use a webcam though, so I have absolutely no problem with it. The mic is a bit gainy, but not enough to make you inaudible. Again, not much for me to say about it. If it's important for you I'd advise in using external peripherals opposed to the internal ones this Chromebook provides.
All in all I can say that this is new standard in Chromebooks. I truly believe that this is the Chromebook that all other Chromebooks will be compared to. Unless another brand can make a device with as good of a combination in spec and price, this will most likely take the number one spot in all of those end of year listicles of best Chromebooks. So, if you want a near perfect premium Chromebook that you can actually afford, this is your pick.

My first Chromebook. After digging an research . I decided on the Acer. It's easy to use . Touch screen is awesome. If you run Android it will sync up. I like the screen size. I hear the speakers aren't the best. I'm not too worried about . I have enough music on my phone an car stereo. Fast enough for me. I've read it looks boring . I say it's a perfect clean slate to put on stickers or whatever to make it more yours.

In terms of a laptop, desktop, pretty much any computing device, this has to be my best purchase ever. It is extremely well built for its price, and it's snappier than any laptop I have owned. Volume is no worry because there are great extensions you could download. The beautiful screen, comfortable keyboard, along with amazing battery life, makes this chromebook a gem.

This is not a review of the Chromebook operating system. This is a review of this particular Chromebook. I love the gorgeous 3:2 screen. It's exceptional. It's bright with well saturated colors and a high enough resolution to make everything crisp and sharp. The 3:2 screen ratio is perfect for writers, bloggers, and consumers of written web content. If you want to watch movies on yours, you can still do that, but you'll have bars at the top and bottom. I prefer to have a screen that shows me more text. It's performance is snappy and I've never managed to bog it down. I primarily write on it, though. So I will never tax the processor on this thing. But since writing is my primary use, I need to tell you about the keyboard. It's pretty pedestrian. Middle of the road. It neither stands out nor detracts from the experience. And that's the difference between a 4 star laptop and a 5 star laptop. I wish the keyboard made less noise and offered a more premium typing experience like the Google PixelBook hush keyboard. Now there's a premium level experience. But for a machine priced where it is, with a build quality that sits well above average, especially for a Chromebook, it's a solid buy and I don't regret my decision at all.

This laptop was great. If it didn't meet it's untimely death by falling, it would still be great. The display was phenomenal at every angle, the sound powerful and clean to watch Movies. The speed was almost but not quite enough for streaming games. And, of course, my favorite part was the 3:2 aspect ratio, and the ability to use it as a tablet!

Bought the Spin 713 after reading really nice reviews. Went from the Asus C302 with 4gb ram, 64gb storage, to 8gb ram, 128gb storage. Very pleased with great screen. Chromebooks are the bomb...Everyone once in a while I have to do something on my pc, and so tired of screen saying you need to restart, updates pending. Now back to the spin 713, After having this for 6 days, last night was bad. Could not get this to connect to wifi at all. Kept shutting down and restarting and nothing. 2 other computers and 3 tablets in house and everything else I want.was connected. Finally shut it off for the night. Went on tablet and did some searching, seems a lot of people having wifi issues with this chromebook. Lot of reviews saying wifi very spotty. Gets signal, loses signal, while other items in their homes receiving wifi. After leaving off overnight, turned mine on and was able to connect. Hope this is not going to be an issue, still have time to return it if I want.

I really like this convertible laptop. Great screen, fast, responsive track pad, nice tactile keyboard, sturdy hinges, long battery life. My only problem is with my being new to the Chrome operating system. I have been a windows user for so long that I am having a learning curve to get all the benefits available on this machine.

Love this chromebook. Going from an Acer 15.6 chromebook to this. Very fast and the 3:2 screen is exceptional. Was worried about the reflective screen but it is fine. The speakers as most people have mentioned are poor but I don't use it for movies. I installed Volume Master and that gets it loud enough for me. Expensive but worth it.

An excellent nearly perfect Chromebook. Excellent screen, keyboard, and performance.
The only con is the speakers which are pretty muffled and weak.
Otherwise this is pretty much the best Chromebook you can buy! Other than the updated version - though even that one moved both usb c ports to the same side!

This was a great purchase.
Pros- 8 Mb Ram, lite keyboard, 2 in 1 functionality, blazing fast processor, Amazing screen.
Cons- Webcam is not good for video calling and very dark at times with low light. Body build seems delicate with very hard corners and edges which make this product less desirable when sitting on your lap with Very Pointy edges.

I needed a new chromebook to replace 2 devices. A 2014 chromebook which is nearing it's AUE date and an android tablet with a degrading battery.
My previous chromebook, an Acer CB3-111 was used primarily for banking, bill pay, and online purchases (any online transactions I needed to be secure).
My Samsung Tab A 10.1 was used primarily for Google Voice and Zoom.
Coming from a chromebook with a Celeron processor and an 11.6 inch screen, all I can say is WOW! This thing is a dream to use. EVERYTHING is an upgrade.
As far as replacing my tablet, Google voice calls are clear, but the webcam sucks. So I have supplemented this CB with a Logitech C920s webcam.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with this laptop (and I'm super picky). Having to use an external webcam is not optimal but otherwise it is the perfect device for my needs.
Finally, for all you techies, here's the specifics for the memory and storage:
The SSD is an SK Hynix BC501 (HFM128GDJTNG-8310A).
The memory is Samsung DDR4 2666 (K4A8G165WC-BCTD). 2 4GB dimms running in dual channel.

I really like it: cpu, ram, nvme, keyboard, touchpad, battery life are all very great for a Chromebook.
This Chromebook has an almost perfect screen. It has some sorts of bugs which cause the screen to re-render partially for about half second. I did notice it few times but it does not bother me too much. Still 5 star for me.

I really like how this can be flipped and folded and it works pretty seamlessly and quickly...It loads up sites with ease but I have had a couple of instances where we have lost our Chromecast signal while showing a movie or event...
I am not crazy about the image quality when I am on social media apps...They tend to look grainy and they look fantastic on my other devices...I tend to wonder about that...
I love the back lit keyboard and the battery life...Really love having the HDMI port and being able to plug in and charge my laptop from either side...
The muffled sound of the speakers can be annoying BUT that goes away really when you fold it and make a pyramid...The speaker sound bounces off the back of the computer then...and using bluetooth enabled devices with this is a breeze.
I loved this so much that I purchased it another one for my husband for Christmas...We both received them quickly with direct shipping to our home...Thank you Best Buy for a very , very good price on this!

This Chromebook is easily one of the best premium Chromebooks at a budget price you can buy. It boots within seconds, operates apps smoothly and efficiently, and the touchscreen is very responsive. I've ran multiple tabs with multiple things going on simultaneously to test the processing power, and I have yet to make this machine lag. I put a 256GB microSD card in, and bought a USB-C adapter for my 4TB Western Digital drive for extra storage, as I initially planned to have this be a travel companion and my main media hub for any room in my place or a hotel, etc. However, after getting to use it for a while, I have been easily changing that plan to using it much more frequently. I highly recommend this to anyone already willing to spend $400 or more on a Chromebook. Avoid the excessively expensive Samsung Chromebook 2 (I almost bought this instead) or the Google Pixelbook (same), this will accomplish so much for much less.

First the good, I love everything about the device in terms of build construction, screen, speed, trackpad and keyboard. This is my first Chromebook. I am coming from a Sony Xperia Z4 Android Tablet that is 5 years old and I'm a diehard Android guy.
The first issue I noticed was with WI-FI connectivity, I couldn't connect to some 2.4 GHz routers and the connection strength was very poor compared to all of my other devices. You have to stand right next to a router to get a "strong" indication for WI-FI strength. After consultation with Acer, they told me to return the device as it was defective. Best Buy was kind enough to send me another laptop. Soon after setup, I realized the replacement device also had the same exact issues. Furthermore, the BT streaming is terrible. I have a UE Boom 2. It cuts in and out constantly. Last but not least, I am disappointed to find that Android apps are pretty much hit-and-miss with respect to functionality. Some work as they should. Some kind of work and some won't even launch.
I'd like to believe that everything I am describing is related to software and Chrome OS since this is a flagship device and both units have had the same issues. I really expected this to be a major upgrade from my old Sony Tablet, but it is not in so many ways. Its like déjà vu with early Android builds for me. Stuff is buggy.
So, if anyone has any advice. Please offer it up.
