    my first tablet

    Posted .

I just bought the Acer Iconia A-500 and have enjoyed using it so far. I had to figure out alot of it on my own with some help from the online manual. I have not bothered with a SD card so don't know if that will be just as easy or not from the reviews I've read about SD cards. I also bought a keyboard to go with my tablet and it was easy to sync them together and now it's easier typing than one finger hunting. The thing I don't care for is that I cannot sign out of my email acct. without turning the whole tablet off. But it's a fun little toy to take along on trips without having to haul a big laptop around.

    Very good tablet

Took a while to get it up to speed but I have had this device for 7 months and it is not an iPod but just the hardware blows all other tablets away. I can rent movies and hook it up to my TV with HDMI, plug in USB 2 hard drives an flash drives and keyboards, expand memory with micro SD card. Can run my other computers with remote desktop apps. I rarely pick up my laptop anymore. All it needs is a dual OS with windows 7.

Good Specs, Great Price, Awesome User Experience

    Posted .

2-3 months ago I never imagined I would want a tablet, I have a droid incredible, laptop and a desktop. Ever since i got my phone i have been hooked on mobile devices, and after playing with a friends iPad for just an hour or so I knew I had to have one. While most people flock to Apple devices I am a Google fanboy and knew I had to have a 10" tablet with Honeycomb. With the spec sheets nearly identical between the Iconia and Xoom, the major price difference, and the overwhelmingly positive responses toward the Iconia I figured getting the Acer was a no-brainer. Not to mention the USB, micro-hdmi, and fully functional micro-sD, this tablet seemed ahead of the rest. I have read reviews saying there are a limited number of apps available. However, I am not really missing anything I need and Honeycomb is still a very new OS, so options are only going to increase. There still seems to be a few hiccups here and there (the default browser is autrocious, I suggest skyfire), but it seems to mostly attributed to the OS and not Acer's hardware. Really the only con to the entire tablet is its screen, and it isn't really a con, just not quite as crisp in both clarity and color as its Motorola and Apple brethren.

Probably the best tablet out there now.

    Posted .

I have been looking for an android tablet for almost a month now and I ended up with Acer iconia a500, and its actually one of the best decisions I made. Pro -well built aluminum body -expandable memory right out of the box -probably the best looking tablet out now -price $150 less than xoom, although they have the same specs -fast internet -multiple connections(hdmi, USB, headphone and docking port) Con -the only con that I can see is the weight. Its a little heavier than the competition but the nice sturdy and elegant look of the aluminum body makes up for it.

great value, performance and flash support

    Posted .

I have looking to buy a tablet for several months now and after reading reviews I decided to purchase the Acer a500. I love that it has flash support vs apple devices and is cheaper then the motorola xoom, also has a full size USB on the side where the Asus you have to purchase a dock to get it to get the USB. Also if you price it out if you buy a I pad 2 then you need to purchase an adapter for 40 bucks to Support USB andndd card and another adapter worth 40 bucks for hdmi out. So ifnyou buy the I pad 16 gb unit and to make it have the features this item has you will be walking out paying 580 vs 450! Only issue I have so far is the lack of accessories available. I need a folable cover and a docking station and can't find them anywhere.

    Awesome Tablet

    Posted .

Not a whole lot of complaints with this tablet. It runs fine and plays vids. It's definitely not capable of playing 1080p content, but convert it down to size and it looks fine. It's overheated and froze up on me before, but that's cause I use it in my car. It was sitting in the sun and froze up when I came back to use it. Wish, the thing had more video codec support. Course, it'd be the exact same thing with any other tablet. I just end up converting vids to put onto it. It comes with a bit of bloatware for it. There's like 4 different video players on it. I have it wirelessly connect to my car stereo via bluetooth. Sounds great. The internal speakers are fairly loud, but don't expect much. It is a thin tablet after all. I also use a pair of Audio Technica A700 headphones with it and it comes out as good as my mp3 player. Sounds better than my last two Android phones too. The only thing I wish it had, is 3G/4G. For now, I just set my phone as a wireless hotspot and connect that way, but I'd prefer to not have to drain my phone's battery to use internet on my tablet, while on the move.

    Acer tab

    Posted .

Well let me start off by saying i wanted to buy the Asus eee Pad Transformer but it sold out so fast, that i really don't think it was a full launch, but i wanted a tablet. So i went to my local Best Buy to mess around with the acer at first i didn't really like it but the more i messed with it, i started to enjoy it more and more, so i bought it. I have been messing with it for about a day and to be honest i really enjoy the device. I love the full size usb. I actually like the size of it, it has space for my finger for when i hold it, unlike the xoom with small borders where my finger are sometimes on the display and it does recognize my touch. Also the sound is excellent. The only flaw so far is that the web browser its a little sluggish, haven't found a great alt. but opera is okay.

First tablet and I like it

    Posted .

I wanted a tablet pc for travel purposes to check email and use the web as appropriate. Although I have only had the Acer one day, in playing around with it, I have come to appreciate the thought that went into the design. I am a very experienced pc user/builder and I consider this product to be in the top 10% of tech gadgets I've owned or built. What impressed me a lot is how sturdy it seems to be, and even with my home Wi-fi access point, it is plenty fast. To get everything, you have to download from the Acer site, but it does not seem like a big deal. The folks at Best Buy were informative and helpful, and the Acer's specs match, and in some casees exceed the Xoom, and are really superior to the iPad. All in all a $449.99 well spent. I can't wait to give it a workout at airports.

    Great Tab for the money

After reading reviews on just about every tablet out there and playing around with them in stores. I decided on this one. I must say I am very pleased with everything. Its easy to use, runs smooth, has great battery life, beautiful screen, and expandable memory(I added an 8GB Micro SD). Found my wi-fi in my home immediately after I turned it on. For the money you cant go wrong. I have been recomending it to everyone I know.

    Great Android tablet

    Posted .

This is a very good tablet with great display and wonderful battery time. I love the full size USB port that can power a remote drive easily. The only down side is the inability to plug into my PC and transfer files to the SD card. You have to remove the SD card and plug it into the PC to transfer files - a bit of a bother, but not insurmountable. The feel is good and I have no problem keeping all the buttons out of the way. Good sound, but ear buds are better. I have lots of apps and pictures and don't even have 1/2 the main memory full. Skype works well too.

    Would strongly recommend

I've had mine for a week and a half, and I'm pleased with my purchase. The review on CNet is spot on; criticms are mostly limited to being slightly heavier than other tablets and the fact that Honeycomb is a bit buggy in isolated incidents. Acer-specific issues are expected to get fixed with upcoming patches (weak GPS, full 1080P out, USB peripheral support.) This is my first Android experience (I have IOS devices) and now that I'm comfortable with Android, I replaced 2 of our cells with Android phones today.

    Great tablet for the money

    Posted .

I purchased a Sylvania tablet from Sears for my son this past christmas, and was discusted to find that it didn't have android market place and there was very few apps that could be installed on it, the touch screen was terrible i had to press on the screen so hard that i was afraid that i was going to damage it and it froze up constantly. i decided not to give it to my son and returned it. i had lost my taste for tablets because i couldn't find one resonably priced with all the features i wanted. the Acer tablet is everything i wanted plus some, and was cheaper than i expected to pay. I'm a big Acer fan, every computer i own is an Acer and i've still got my first one that is about 7 years old and it's still working great. Awsome Tablet don't waist your time with the cheaper ones, just get this one and you will definately be happy with it.

    Perfect for my son.

    Posted .

I bought this tablet for my 6 year old son because he is doing great in school. I originally went in to BB to buy the 7 in because I thought the 10 in would be too much for him. I am SO glad I got this one instead. He has been on it non-stop. He is able to go on to Study Island which is what they do to track a students progress in school. I am kind of mad that I didn't get one for myself. The functionality is great. He can also watch movies tv shows, anything. There are only a few games on PBSkids.org that he can't play because it needs a keyboard and I can't figure out how to bring the keyboard up on the game but other than that it's perfect for him! Sound is a little low but that's a good thing for me.

I was looking at the xoom and ipads for awhile and non of them was what I was really looking for. Xoom with the probs and price and price with the ipads but then the Acer tab came out and I gotta say I couldn't be happier, no problems with wifi and low space everything works right out of the box and syncing with my pc is not a problem, movies/music works great. If you want a great tablet with a good price this is it!

    Great Android Tablet

    Posted .

I am a big fan of android and have been trying to wait patiently for an Android tablet that's affordable. I went to best buy yesterday hoping to get a look at the Asus Transformer (which only sold online) so was disappointed by that. However, that's when i found the Acer Iconia. I read about upcoming tablets all the time, so was quite surprised this one wasn't on my radar, I vaguely remember hearing about it, but just don't trust Acer that much. However, this is a very nice Tablet, I liked the idea of an aluminum body rather than the plastic, netbook type of body of the Transformer, and I liked that it has a full USB port on it. After getting it home, I'm so far happy with my WiFi reception, I also have an iPad (original) that will drop the connection in my living room, but no such problems with this, and more bars showing up as well. If you don't need 3G, this is the tablet to get!

    A Tablet of Substance

    Posted .

Although the Asus Eee Pad was my first choice I decided to give this tablet a try due to the lack of stock in it. I am growing fonder with this tablet each day. For starters, the UI is wonderful. This thing navigate as well as a fine tuned Chevy. It is a bit heavy, however in the same token doesn't feel cheap. I like the fact that you can connect it to a TV & play flash websites on full screen. All in all I am very happy with this tablet.

This is a true Three Wolf Moon of a Tablet

    Posted .

It has a great price. It's very fast. It's storage can be expanded with a USB thumbstick. One of the only problems I've had is that it's too new and there is a lack of peripherals to go with this device. I very-much want a dock/keyboard. My only true gripe is the lack of USB charging ability. You are required to use the AC/DC charge port. If the battery life were longer. I wouldn't have a problem with this but I would like to charge the battery off my laptop at work and read a book off it during my commute. So far, the device runs out of juice with very little use during the day.

Great Tablet! Android Honeycomb is superb!

    Posted .

I don't know where to begin with how sweet this tablet is. I have an Android phone and so Honeycomb is a nice upgrade. The screen on this beauty is crystal clear. I like that I can turn up/down the brightness of the screen to save battery or to ease my eyes for reading. I have had it for a week and I know that I've barely even scratched the surface of this things capability. The Android Market has a special section for Tablet-ready apps. Even though its no where near the amount of apps for the phone market, there is a good selection of incredibly useful apps. As the tablet market increases, so will the amount of apps available. The widgets that come pre-installed on the tablet are nice as well. Another huge plus about the iconia is the BATTERY LIFE. I have honestly charged it four times in one week of use. I can get 7-8 hours of full fledged use per charge. When it comes to battery life, its closer to a phone than a laptop. If you are looking for something with battery life, this is the one to get. I like that it has a full size USB and HDMI out, but I have yet to use them yet. I have messed around with some of the games and they are quite amazing on the big screen. The Market has a few games made for tablets and the Tegra Processor runs them seemlessly. Angry Birds also looks sweet on this thing. I plan on using this Tablet for college. I have already purchased some of my online textbooks. I'm excited for not having to lug them around campus. Oh, get a case as soon as you buy it. It is heavier than most tablets and you will notice how easy it is to drop once you pick it up. Don't try to use it and walk. The tablet has incredible processing speed for a device its size. Internet videos downloaded fast even with background programs running. I bought the one year insurance plan from Best Buy. My total price wast $530. I have not had one bit of buyers remorse since I bought the Iconia.

    Very happy !

    Posted .

I am very happy with this tablet so far. The micro SD card slot actually works out of the box, unlike the xoom, and I love the full size USB. I am able to use my sandisk cruzer thumb drive to transfer music and photos to the tablet, via the file manager I downloaded in the app store. I was able to use the USB keyboard from my desktop with no problems. I would recommend this over the xoom, or I pad...

    Great but no accessories

    Posted .

So far I love my A500 Android tablet, but where are the accessories. I mean even the basic case is not available anywhere. One thing I have noticed is it does crash periodically. What I have not figured out is if it is specifically an app or the Tab itself. Last but not least, one of the greatest reasons I have Android technology is because of the wonderful apps that are available. Some of the phone apps have not been fully ported to the Tablet. Google needs to make this an easy transition for developers os they can make the apps available more quickly. All in all, I recommend buying the Acer Iconia A500. The Xoom is too expensive and the ASUS is out of stock and not necessarily a better buy for $50. less.
