I was surprised by how good Acer has gotten. Bought as I needed a replacement laptop that wouldn't break the bank. Great value for the money.

This laptop gets the job done. Weather editing or gaming. It’s not the biggest baddest machine out there but for the money it’s a great value.

Great 1080p Laptop for modest gaming. I wish the laptop came with 16gb of DDR4 ram instead of the 8GB installed in it especially at a 800 plus price.

When I get a gaming laptop I usually aim for the higher end versions because they cost so much that I want them to last a minimum of 2yrs. The Acer Nitro 5 comes in at a fraction of what I normally pay but doesn't' sacrifice much when it comes to performance. The screen on my unit is an AUO12ED, IPS, 60hz with a non-glare coating (I wish glossy never became a thing) and had excellent viewing angles and colors that pop with the default settings. Though, if you use it for gaming you'll surely be looking straight on instead of angles. I would have liked a 144hz screen, but there would have been an increase in price. Also G-Sync would have been a plus, but again would have been a pretty hefty upgrade in the price. The Nitro 5 comes with both a mechanical SATA drive and a M.2 NVMe and has a spot to add another M.2 drive. Getting in is pretty easy. Unscrew the bottom and pop it off and you're ready to upgrade if you feel. The processor is quad core i5-9300H with hyperthreading. It has enough power do almost anything you'd do with a desktop. Stress testing showed no throttling for a 30 min test. Same with the video card. Speaking of the video card - the reason why you'd get this laptop - the brand new GTX 1650 is little budget powerhouse. 3DMarks clocked in at 3425 (Test1: 21.84 FPS, #2 19.5 FPS). Furmark pulled 42 FPS and had no throttle for 30 min combined with a CPU stress test. Acer did a wonder job on the thermals. The 1650 is powerful enough for High and possibly Ultra settings on most games at 1080p. I'm currently playing CoX so that old game didn't really push the 1650 to it's limits. This gaming laptop is well worth the cost and should last my 2yr minimum requirements - unless the upgrade bug bites me!

not the best nor is it the worst gaming laptop out there. The display is very dark compared to even a cheap gaming monitor. It only has 1 stick of ram so it runs in single channel, majorly impacting its overall performance. It does have a small m.2 boot drive which really helps improve its overall responsiveness. For non gaming enthusiasts I would definitely recommend as a starter gaming laptop.

I was very eager to buy this laptop, with seeming to be the best 'bang for the buck' this laptop performed excellently for the first two months. It was capable of handling several taxing games that I was having trouble with on my old laptop. It's relatively light, the backlit keyboard is functional, and the keys click as well as they did day one. But the glaring issue was the display. Many owners reported having a display stutter out of nowhere. Display driver updates did nothing, my display has been it's default 60hz since it can't go beyond it. No graphics change on any game seems to change the effect. This stutter is extremely noticeable during gaming, and I started becoming aware during the Resident Evil 2 Remake cutscenes. The video, audio, and inputs went out of sync as soon as the stutter occurred. This effect happens while watching video, streamed or otherwise. I could handle a physical defect, no backlights, a sticky key, but when the defect is staring me in the face every time it happens is just above mildly infuriating. Its the silicon lottery, if luck is in your favor this laptop will be excellent if it has no issues. Otherwise, I'd suggest weighing the pros and cons with deep thought.

This is an awesome gaming laptop! You can really see the advantage of having an SSD with this laptop because it loads very quickly. The design of this laptop is different than other gaming laptops that exists. It is much thinner and lighter than others. It is also not as bulky and heavy. The keyboard has red back lighting and the WASD keys are outline with red so that they can easily be found during gaming. The keys are extremely quiet when typing and there is little feedback. The track pad works decent but I would recommend getting a mouse to use while gaming or working on it. The screen is full HD and offers great colors. It is one of the better screens I have seen on a laptop. Another great thing about the screen is that it is anti-reflective which in my opinion makes a huge difference. Last and most importantly is performance. This PC was built for gaming and in order to handle games the hardware must be very good. Although the internal components can be upgraded to better and faster ones, the components that it comes with performed very well. The graphics card is also one of the better ones. This laptop has an awesome cooling system and great ventilation. Even after gaming for an hour or more on it I never really even heard the fans kick up to high. There is no doubt that this laptop can handle any of today’s popular games with the hardware that it comes with. Last part of performance is battery life. It is not expected to have all day battery life as it is a gaming laptop but if you are on the go and not gaming you can get 4-5+ hours depending on your settings. For the power it has to offer I would not complain about the battery life. Overall I think the Acer Nitro 5 is a great gaming laptop. I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking to get into gaming but is on a budget.
