Computer works as expected though the power port is next to the fan exhausts. Also the fans are only on half of the computer so the other half can get warm. Like the touchpad though!

This computer is good but, it has a tendency to use excessive amounts of memory. So, if you are a gamer and have more than 3 programs running I suggest a ram upgrade.

After only 3 months I had to send it back for repair. wifi keeps going out, and did not return. Lost everything I had on my PC, they fixed NOTHING, still having the same problems. I have many pc's Iphones, computers all working just fine, so it's not my wifi. PC will shut off and slowly restart, happens several times a day. Lot of money for a very unreliable pc.

    Cost effective gaming laptop

Typical of Acer, this is a budget line of gaming device. To that end, it has a very plastic feel. Unfortunately, at the $800 price point I would expect a little more out of the display. Everything else considered it's a decently powered device for the price point. I'm seeing around 3hrs of use on battery while not gaming. So plan on being tethered to power while gaming. But if you buy a gaming laptop and think you're going to go untethered you need to reset your expectations. It seems to do a pretty decent job of handling heat and has some good ventilation. The fans can get a little noisy, but that's to be expected even from a device triple the price. To that end, the sound system consists of a couple speakers firing out the bottom of the device. It sounds a little muddy, but is loud enough for a laptop. Most gamers will likely be using a headset anyway. There's a decent number of ports. I like the approach on the ethernet connector. It's a fold-out port that helps keep the form factor of the device smaller. It's completely missing a DP port which is a bummer, it has a full HDMI and 3 USB, and 1 USB-C. The power brick is large and connects into the side of the device. In my opinion this is one major flaw in the design of this device....having all the connections coming out the sides really limits it's desktop/laptop worthiness. All wires coming out the sides means a messy workspace. It has a webcam, but it's not good enough for Windows Hello. The keyboard is actually laid out ok and has a good feel to it. There's one color in the lights...red. :) The display is probably the biggest letdown. It's a 1080p display and maxes out at 60hz. So for a gaming device in the modern day it's really lacking in it's design. It should have at least come with a 120hz display at a minimum. There's of course no gsync with it either so you can expect a lot of tearing in games...and it does. During a play through of Fortnite I saw a lot of tearing going on. Lastly, it's not a very bright display either. So expect to use it indoors and not under any sort of bright lighting. I would consider this a good starter device for anyone looking to stay sub $1k and who is looking to get into PC gaming. My kid is using it and enjoying it and that's really all that matters. He thinks it's better than his Xbox and that's ok with me. I would liked to have seen at least 16gb of RAM vs 8, but that's what you get on a budget. I'd recommend this for any parent looking to start their kid out on a starter PC gaming device.

    Best option for budget gaming

The Acer Nitro 5 is an excellent entry-level gaming laptop, known for its solid performance and affordability. It features a sleek black design with red accents and a sturdy build. The 15.6-inch Full HD display offers decent color reproduction, though it's not as vibrant as more expensive models. Powered by a mid-range GPU and CPU, it handles most games at medium to high settings smoothly. The red-backlit keyboard is comfortable, though some might miss RGB customization. Overall, it’s a great choice for casual gamers seeking value without sacrificing too much on performance.

    Great Mid-range Gaming Machine

I've owned a few Acer gaming laptops now and have been satisfied every time and this is no exception. I think the bang for your buck is outstanding with this laptop. Don't let the core i5 scare you away, this laptop will play most games at a reasonable frame rate all day long. This is a great option for someone looking to game on a budget. The look: This laptop looks sleek. If you like RGB and the edgy gaming look then you'll love this design. It's a very aggressive design but, the pictures are pretty true to what it looks like in real life. The build quality is high-end. No creaky cheap plastic here, it feels dense and sturdy. Speaking of dense, this laptop is not super portable, it's about what you would expect from a gaming laptop. Not super heavy but not ultra-portable either. The Screen: I love the size of the screen, 15.6 in is a great compromise between portability and screen real estate. Nothing looks super small or unreadable. The 1080p screen looks good. It's nothing ground shattering but, it doesn't look bad either. If you're coming from a 2k or 4k monitor you will be underwelmed. If not, it looks good and you won't notice. Performance: The GTX 1650 really shines on this laptop. I haven't had any problems playing fairly graphic intensive games. I haven't been playing at max settings on any games but, you can definitely set things reasonably high and still get high framerates. The 128GB solid state is a great addition here and makes for super fast boot times. I wish there was more than 1 TB of HDD, you'll fill that up quickly if you play a lot of games, but I understand it being a laptop. I would also suggest upgrading you're memory, 8 GB is pretty low for a gamine laptop and if you get anything super memory intensive you may end up running into issues. I didn't notice much but, could see it being a problem in the future. Overall: This is a great mid-range gaming laptop. Don't expect the same performance as a $2000 laptop but, for most casual gamers and those not worried about playing at the absolute max settings this will do just fine. The laptop may not be very future proof with the lower end CPU and low memory but, for the price I think you get some great performance.

I wish I could say this is the best laptop which it was at first... I got it and it fired right up I downloaded all of the necessary things and got to business it would play games at around 90-130fps it was so great then I started to notice frame drops and lag then my games would freeze I completely restarted the computer thinking it would be fixed and it was for about a week or two then it happened again this time worse I am so frustrated with the fact that I cannot physically do anything to make this better I just wish I bought a different one or just settled with my PlayStation because at this point it has so much better performance and has always been reliable

Worthless! Paid almost $700 in February 2020. Darn thing dies May 2021 after warranties expired. Took in to the Geek Squad who shipped it out for repair. They're estimate was $609.00! No thank you! Will never purchase another Acer again.

    "gaming laptop" with 60mhz screen

Acer cut corners on this laptop. It's supposed to be a gaming laptop but the monitor is weak. It uses an Nvidia GTX 1650 graphics card, which can easily handle 144 mhz but instead they put a cheap 60 mhz monitor on it. The speakers are also super cheap; we could barely hear the sound when playing games. The trackpad seems cheaply made and the keys on the keyboard become invisible when when the back light is off. Why imprint the keys with dark red on black? You can barely see the keys with the back light off. I could have lived with 8gb of ram and 128 gb SSD since this was advertised, but the poor monitor, speakers, keyboard, and trackpad were so bad I decided to return it. I'll save for something better.

I bought this before I purchased the Asus Rog Strix. It would have probably been a decent system, however the defective software for the mouse pad made it impossible to play games and i spent hrs with Acer customer service and technical support and could not be fixed. I actually took it back to the store and received another Acer Nitro 5 but it was the next higher model and the EXACT same issue occurred with that one as well. I looked this issue up on line and from what I have read, Acer knows about the issue and does nothing to fix it. I ended up returning the Acer and purchased the Asus Rog Strix which Im much happier with.

I initially bought this one to use for work. Had to return it as it was so slow. It kept freezing multiple times in less than an hour. Researching online showed me its a common problem. Returned it for a completely different laptop which does not freeze and is super fast. Sadly I cannot recommend this laptop. My kids loved the looks of it. Oh also reminds me the top of this laptop is so flimsy. Offers no protection when closed. Almost like a hollow component. Definitely thought that was odd. But probably would’ve still kept it if that were the only issue.

Absolutely amazing device! My only gripe is that I had to reset to default but after doing so the Nitro Sense software is now inoperable. I have tried everything and yet the computer continues to notify that my Nitro 5 is not compatible with the Nitro Sense software. This means that I have lost all fan and power controls on a gaming machine. GTFO. I am now reliant on auto fans. Still usable machine, however, I now have to use Throttlestop to undervolt so the darn thing doesn't overheat.

This laptop worked SO well when I first purchased it. Last week in the middle of an important Zoom call, my laptop just shut off. My charger wouldn’t light, so I purchased a new one to see if it was a simple fix. The replacement charger lights up but my laptop still won’t turn on… surely this cannot be standard for all Acer laptops after around 1 year of owndership.
