OK this laptop was better than I expected. This thing is beautiful straight out of the box. Build quality is great and feels sturdy. The lines are sleek and the weight is less than I imagined for something geared towards gaming. The screen quality is one of the most stand out features as every game or video I stream is crystal clear. Sound quality is great without headphones and the volume can go quite loud if needed. This thing starts up in seconds and has run ever task asked of it without issue so far. The keyboard layout is comfortable and the red back lit keys give it an added edge. I don't consider myself a serious gamer so I can't speak to any hard-core use however the battery life and performance has been superb at this point. For the price I think this is a lot of bang for your buck and would recommend to anyone looking for a solid laptop for heavy use.

This is a good beginner gaming laptop. The processor is the shinning point, it is very fast and the system performs as though it had more memory. I was shocked to see that it only had 4GB of video memory. The idea of a gaming anything these days should have at least 8GB for anything brand new. I was very impressed with the build quality and the design. The only thing I would complain about is the power adapter plug is on the middle of the right side. This could be awkward for a right handed mouse user. I would have personally preferred for the price to be a little more and increase the videoi memory to at least 6GB and the system memory to 16GB with a 256GB pci-e ssd.

A Most Excellent Budget Gaming Laptop

This Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop is an excellent machine that is an above average value in the gaming laptop space. Bootup time is wicked fast thanks to the 128GB SSD where Windows is installed. Even the regular hard drive (1 TB) feels faster than one would expect. To get the basics out of the way first. The overall build quality feels quite sturdy and nice. Yes, it's plastic, but it doesn't feel like "cheap" plastic. I have no worries zipping it up in the included sleeve and putting it in my bag when I'm on the go. The back lit keyboard is very comfortable to type on with just the right amount of key travel. A couple of added bonuses is the full size direction keys and full size number pad on the right side. They keyboard is fine for FSP games but I'd strongly recommend a good gaming mouse as trying to play those games using the trackpad, while possible, is not optimal for fast paced gaming. Speaking of the trackpad it is above average in responsiveness/sensitivity but is awkwardly placed, in my opinion. To me it would be better if it was more centered in relation to the body of the laptop. The display is one of the better I've ever seen on a "budget" machine and I'm rather pleased with it. My only complaint, and it's minor, is some slight light bleed at the top when you're looking at a dark scene. It's not distracting but it is there. This is a gaming machine and I am happy to report it has handled every game I've thrown at it handily. I've played PUBG, Fortnight, GTA V, as well as the old school Unreal Tournament and it's been fabulous at those titles. PUBG, Fortnight, and GTA V I had to lower the graphics to mostly medium settings to get a good frame rate but I have been impressed with how the machine handles those titles. This is one of the more quiet gaming laptops I've seen too. Acer includes their NitroSENSE control panel so you can adjust the fans and other settings which is very handy to monitor your machine. The built in speakers sound great with decent volume and stereo separation. Movies look and sound great! The specs on this machine mean you're set for a couple of years of good use. Overall I am extremely pleased with this machine!

I have been using Gaming Desktops until now and looking for decent mid-range gaming laptop without breaking the bank. Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop is an excellent option for mid-range gaming laptop. It has decent configuration to play games. It comes with 9th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-9300H mobile processor with smart quad-core, eight-way processing performance with Intel Turbo Boost Technology. The 15.6" Full HD display with Acer Comfy View technology reduces reflection. The 1920 x 1080 resolution boasts impressive color and clarity. The display has IPS technology and LED backlight. It has 8GB system memory for advanced multitasking and substantial high-bandwidth RAM to smoothly run your games and photo- and video-editing applications, as well as multiple programs and browser tabs all at once. There are two drives in this laptop 128GB SSD and 1TB Hard drive. Due to SSD, boot up is very fast and data access is instant. It has NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics with 4GB GDDR5 dedicated video memory for a fast, advanced GPU to fuel your games. It came with Windows 10 operating system and weighs only 5.5 lbs. and measures 1.1" thin. This laptop has many ports 1 full HDMI port, 3 USB ports, 1 USB-C port and Ethernet port. I am disappointed that there is no display port to connect with external monitor on high resolution. It comes with Built-in webcam with microphone for video calls and skype calls. The keyboard is with backlit. The sound quality of the speaker is not great and i don't have any issues as i will be using headphones most of the time. There are many games suffering as there is no Gsync capability. Battery is OK and it last around 4 hours with continuous usage. Acer Nitro 5 is a mid-range gaming laptop. If you are a hardcore gamer and looking for all features, it may not be a good fit. However, this laptop is great for budget conscious users as it has decent configuration.

This gaming laptop looks similar to the other Acer Nitro laptops that were released late last year but don't be fooled as this is a totally different machine. The first thing I noticed is the metal body and smaller bezel on the screen - very nice touches! On top of that, the keyboard is solid and the keys are firm and responsive. Performance wise, this machine is sweet! Out of the box, you'll notice right away that it's fast and once setup is done the normal boot only takes what feels like a few seconds - impressive! Windows 10 on this laptop performs nicely! Even though it's only an i5 it performs solidly on all games I threw at it. Graphics-intensive games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Assassin's Creed Origins run nice and smooth with pretty good frame rates with max settings with no issues at all. Very impressed! The fans can be a bit noisy but you can adjust them to minimize the noise they put out, however, it's important to note that as with any high-performance graphics card you're going to have some fan noise because the cooling that is required. I love the Acer NitroSense app that not only gives you important details about your system like fan speeds and temperatures for the CPU and GPU but lets you tweak the fan settings and lets you easily change between performance modes. The HD IPS display (resolution 1920x1080) is good, very responsive, bright and shows good colour and blacks. You can see some light bleed in the display on an all black screen at the top and bottom of the screen but it's definitely not as bad as other comparable laptops and has not been noticeable to me when gaming or using desktop apps. For sound, this machine is alright with slightly better sound than I expected. Volume is loud and didn't distort but of course, being a laptop does not have tons of bass in the sound. For gaming, the sound works just fine for on the go audio but I'd recommend either using a headset or dedicated speakers when docked anyway. Acer included some basic software like PhotoDirector and PowerDirector for Photo and video editing - a nice touch to add! It also included a trial to Norton but I use Mcaffee and it was easy enough to uninstall it and install the one I prefer. On the Keyboard, the keys are backlit red and while you can't change the colour you can adjust the brightness. The big touchpad is responsive and works well also. For connectivity and ports, you'll find that there are a lot of different ports available (USB C, USB 3.0, HDMI, Ethernet and headphone/mic combo jack). Overall, I'm seriously impressed with this machine as it performs as good as my i7 Gaming desktop PC with dedicated graphics, so my hat's off to Acer on this one and when compared to last year's model as it's even better. I'd absolutely recommend this machine!

This laptop exceeded what I expected. I went into shopping for a laptop specifically for gaming and streaming purposes. I was told at the store that it would not be able to play some of the more graphic intense games without any issues. That was not the case. The three main games i play are Apex, Call of Duty and Titanfall 2. I was able to play all of these games to my monitor at full 1080P with no lag whatsoever. The graphics card does just fine. The only minor thing is its limited to around 50-62FPS which is still really good, but for more intense gamers I know they look for a lot more. With an 8GB ram upgrade I did to this laptop I am able to simultaneously play a game at 1080p on the highest video settings, record gameplay through a second application, and stream live to the internet without any problems at all. Yes, all three of those at the same time! This laptop can keep up with whatever you are trying to do. The laptop tends to run hot in which it has its own Acer temperature control program that connects to the internal fans and it does an amazing job at stopping the temperature from getting to hot to run. There are also custom settings to this cooling program. If you can deal with a little extra fan noise then it is no problem. I highly recommend this laptop and the price is very affordable especially for a laptop this powerful.

Reasonable mid-level gaming laptop - lots of bloat

I've owned many gaming laptops over the years from various manufacturers and each tends to do some things well and some things not so well. Acer has managed to make a very decent midrange gaming laptop with a slim form factor, albeit with a few drawbacks. To start, the packaging is fairly average for a laptop, there is no pomp and circumstance when you open the box, you have your laptop and some documentation and that's about it. Many times gaming laptops have somewhat of a premium feel to their packaging, but unfortunately there is none of that here, it is a very basic experience. The laptop itself is plastic, no metal, although the construction is nice, it is still definitely not a premium build. This is ok at the price point, albeit it is still possible to find laptops with metal or higher quality builds in this range so it's a bit of a disappointment that Acer chose none of that here. When booting the laptop you're met with the standard Windows 10 initial boot experience... for the most part, but unfortunately it doesn't remain that way. At the end of the Windows setup there is some Acer configuration options and information gathering. Once in to Windows, there's unfortunately a fair amount more bloat. There are numerous apps installed from the factory which is unfortunate cause while the laptop does indeed have a 1TB HD, the 128GB boot drive is fairly small, and a chunk of it is taken up by these bloat applications. Many companies have realized that consumers don't want nor need the bloat, but Acer is not one of them. As far as performance is concerned, the Intel i5 and NVidia GTX 1650 lend to a very very enjoyable experience. The laptop is quick and the SSD helps to ensure that things remain snappy. The screen is rather good for a midlevel laptop and it lends to an enjoyable experience. I was able to play many games with High settings, though being that this is just a 1650, I imagine it will not take long for many games to outstrip it. That said, for years to come you should be more than capable of playing games at mid-to-high settings without any effort, just be sure to install them on the 1TB spinning drive. Overall this is a fairly decent midrange gaming laptop, but the installed bloatware is unfortunate as is the all plastic construction.

This is a great little gaming rig for those who want powerful performance without breaking the bank. Taking it out of the box, and I was pleased with it's design. It's black with red accents. After charging it fully, I turned it on and went through the Windows 10 setup which was a breeze. Upon restarting, I was very happy with how quickly the laptop starts up and is ready to go. After playing several games on it, I was not able to find anything that gave this laptop trouble. I have not noticed any lag or stuttering. The display is bright and crystal clear with little leak. One thing I noticed was how little heat this laptop generates. It was surprising to me as when playing games, I have to usually put a pillow on my lap. Not so with this laptop. I love the combination of a solid state drive for the OS with an HDD drive for storage. The rig has 3 USB ports, an HDMI port, and a headphone port. The ONLY downside I could find is the keyboard. The black background with red lettering can be difficult to see with the backlight on and IMPOSSIBLE to see without the backlight. If I could, I would deduct 1/4 star for this. It's really tough. Overall, a great laptop with superior performance for the budget gamer. Highly recommend.

This Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop is a decent option if you are looking for some gaming on the go. The initial set up takes some time, as you will have to update everything. Took about an hour to finish all that. Other than the wait time for downloads and install, set up was straightforward. The build quality is nice and it has a sleek look. Gaming on this laptop is pretty good. I mainly play Fortnite and Dauntless on this and it handles those games easily at 60 FPS/high settings. You will have to tweak some settings within the game to get the smoothest performance but they look great. I tried pushing the system to max performance but the CPU jumped to nearly 100 Celsius and I was getting frame drops and stuttering. The 1080P screen is great, clear and crisp. Bezels are very small, too. The sound on this laptop wasn't too bad. I'd recommend using your favorite headset to get the best audio experience. This is a great mid tier gaming laptop. If you don't want to fork over 2K plus for the best mobile gaming laptop then this one is a great buy!

Economy Gaming Laptop - Prem features, Core i5

First the highlights, this laptop sports all the features of the "NItro 5" line by Acer, which includes a slim design, well-made covers and lots of ports, as well as bright screen, a mixed feeling backlit keyboard, awesome video card. This laptop is fairly well made with the all the plastics feeling premium and solid, a nice integrated but slippery cover for the touchpad and a heavy feeling hinge. Backlit keyboards are nice and I appreciate it's inclusion here, I just wish the color was adjustable, or they had chosen a different color that was more visible on the keys. Fairly well adapted to running Windows 10, but I wish they had made up for the slightly underpowered Core i5 by upping the RAM to 16gb. In my tests, it does an awesome job with Halo, Call of Duty, and Apex, producing high FPS with all those games. Battery life is right at the advertised max and in line with gaming machines. Also cooling is top notch, with this thing able to dissipate heat well, which is DOES generate. Overall this is a fairly well-made laptop, has some awesome features. Personally, I'm going to add to the RAM and would consider options for the keys. These minor hangups definitely wouldn't keep me from using this laptop or recommending it to anyone else. There isn't much at this end of the gaming laptop spectrum, so the Acer Nitro series somewhat stands alone.

If you're looking for a solid, well-built machine, this Acer gaming laptop may just be the right fit for you. Overall, there's a decent amount of power under the hood, with only a few cons to list out. But, the value is great at roughly $800, which makes it a good value buy. Pros: -Battery life is sufficient for a gaming-oriented laptop. I routinely maintained about 5 hours of usage time, which is good for me. -Processing power is adequate with the 9th-gen Intel i5 processor. -GPU is perfect for 1080p gaming. -Upgradable RAM which is always nice. -Decent screen coloring, but nothing special. -Solid HDD and SSD space, as it's great having both. Cons: -The screen is only 60hz, which is a bit of a bummer for older, less demanding games. -The dimensions of this laptop are pretty chunky, which is something to note. -Backlit keys are only red. -The case is plastic but makes sense due to the cost. At the end of the day, this laptop was able to handle most games I played with it, while also rendering photo and video editing software without any hiccups. I'd recommend this laptop.

This is a great laptop for the casual gamer who is maybe just starting out and learning or for a somewhat more experienced user. It's safe to say that experienced gamers will not be satisfied with this computer, but it really wasn't designed for that (the price tag is a pretty clear indicator). Keep in mind that because this laptop is equipped with a bit more than your average laptop (including a solid state drive) you feel that in the weight of the computer. It's definitely heavier than the average, "non-gaming" computer. I found the computer to be very responsive. This includes while playing and also just for everyday use. Windows 10 runs smoothly. I'm not a fan of some of the extras that Acer loads on their computers, but it was manageable and didn't mess up the overall user experience. While the graphics card is obviously not top of the line, it's in keeping with the cost of this particular laptop and gets the job done. Overall, using this laptop is a great experience. It provides everything a new/casual gamer needs without a lot of fluff.

I have been playing around with this laptop for about a week now and it has some pro's and cons but the issue is that it is a Gaming laptop so I tried to use it for that and the rendering/FPS were very poor. It could do simple rendering but had issues with most games. It has a great quality screen and it has a cool feature: nitro-sense for cooling down your laptop during intense gaming and when boosting your performance. It is a great laptop but for work or regular everyday entertainment, the ports and the portability are very nice but the gaming aspect leaves a lot to be desired. It did very poor under every benchmark testing.

This gaming laptop is a great entry-mid level gaming option. Most gamers do prefer a desktop setup, but this laptop does satisfy a lot of the expectations. Overall, I would say Acer did a great job and this laptop is pretty impressive. A few of my favorite features: A frequent problem with gaming laptops is overheating. Acer has most definitely tackled this issue but installing their coolboost technology and plenty of ventilation. Overheating was never an issue for me. Speaker quality is great, actually a bit better than what I was expecting. I do tend to just use headphones anyway but still good to know they are adequate. The overall look of the laptop is pretty impressive. It has kind of an aggressive look to it with the red back lighting. It has some weight to it but is still easily portable. It has all the jacks you would need to plug anything in. I recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a portable option for gaming and doesn't want to break the bank. Acer did this right!

The Acer gaming laptop is a great choice for anyone looking to get a good all around gaming laptop at a great price. This model specifically with the 1TB hard drive and a 128GB SSD offers fast startup with good storage space. There is just about enough room on the SSD to throw a few games or programs that you want to boot quickly and cut down load times, and the included hard drive can hold a good amount of other items. The graphics card is fully capable of running most titles at high in 1080p, you may need to tweak some settings in some games, but for the most part it runs most titles really well at around 60FPS. The 15.6" size is a good size that offers good screen size but still offers a portable laptop that is easy to take with you anywhere. The laptop is not too overly thick, overall it is a good size.
