Customers love the Predator Helios Neo 16's performance and graphics capabilities, frequently praising its excellent value for the price. Many appreciate the customizable keyboard and the option to upgrade the RAM. I mostly like it.... I went from a 17 inch screen to this smaller screen and that is a little hard and the Sound is not nearly as good as my previous LT, but the colors are nice and my spouse is jealous of the keyboard colors!!!

Great Gaming Machine

Acer’s Predator line of gaming laptops continues to get smaller, sleeker, and more powerful. My previous gaming laptop was an Acer Predator Helios 300. This model has impressed me with many improvements over the model from a few years back.
Features:
- High Resolution (1920x1200)/High Refresh Rate (165Hz) Screen
- GeForce RTX 4050 Graphics
- Customizable RGB illumination
- Intel i5 CPU with 16GB RAM and 500GB SSD Storage
- Thunderbolt 4 ports
- Predator Sense
The first thing I noticed when booting the machine up was the very loud startup sound during the POST. Once I got into the BIOS, this was the first thing that I disabled. The only other change I needed to make in the BIOS was changing the default num lock behavior to ON. I cannot figure out why this is not the default on all PCs.
After performing the initial Windows Setup, removing unwanted programs, installing the programs that I regularly use, and disabling all unwanted startup programs, I let the machine sit for about 10 minutes after a clean boot and then checked the CPU and Memory usage. The CPU idles around 1% and the Memory usage is 5 GB or about 32%. The main games that I tested were Destiny 2 and Forza Horizon 5. Both performed admirably with Destiny 2 never dropping below 100 Frames. REMEMBER to change the refresh rate of the screen to 165 in the Nvidia Control Panel. It drives me crazy that the system KNOWS the supported refresh rate is 165 but defaults to 60. If you don’t make this change, you won’t be getting all the frames that your machine is capable of displaying. While 16GB is a ton of memory and the machine performed well in all tests I threw at it, including gaming, I do plan to upgrade the Memory to 32GB, which is the max this board supports.
Speaking of upgrading the RAM, the included 16GB of RAM spans both available SODIMMs which is good because 2 populated RAM slots means the machine can utilize both memory channels resulting in slightly faster memory performance, but it also means that if you want to upgrade to 32GB, you have to buy 32GB of RAM.
The first upgrade I would recommend is to add more hard drive storage space. 500GB is ok for most basic productivity users but since this laptop is for gaming and some game footprints are over 100GB, we need some more space. I added a 2 TB drive in the second M.2 slot, which I am VERY glad that Acer included. I have to say that I had a VERY hard time opening the laptop to add a second hard drive. There are 11 non-captive (boo) screws that need to be removed and you will need some sort of tool to help you pry the bottom off. Even with the appropriate tools, It was VERY difficult to open. This is the first laptop I have ever seen where the battery is not secured to the chassis at all, it simply fell out once it wasn’t held in by the bottom of the laptop.
Predator Sense was a little confusing at first but once I launched the Predator Sense program (which is launched with a dedicated key on the keyboard) it became much clearer. Basically, you can either launch the Predator Sense app to make granular changes to the 4 different operating modes: Quiet, Balanced, Performance, Turbo, or you can press a different key to cycle through the 4 modes without launching the program. The 4 different modes work well and its nice to have a way to quickly swap modes. Predator Sense is also where you make changes to the RGB Lights under the keyboard. The RGP options are a bit limited, and there is no preview, you need to change the settings and exit the Predator Sense program before you see a change. This was a hassle because I had to exit and re-open the program more than a dozen times before I got the RGB effect that I wanted.
As far as the construction and the material, I am VERY pleased. The shell has a very nice matte finish which is a HUGE step up from the fingerprint magnet of brushed aluminum that previous models had. The laptop has a nice solid feel, a footprint that feels not too big and not too small, and I love that the connectivity options are spread evenly between both sides AND the rear of the laptop. BOTH Thunderbolt 4 ports are charge ports which is fantastic, the SD reader is a micro, which is great since pretty much nothing I own is full size SD anymore so I don’t need to keep adapters handy.
PROS:
- Small Footprint
- Very nice super bright screen with a high refresh rate and low response time
- Enough power to play pretty much anything you throw at it.
- Lots of Connectivity options and nothing feels crowded
- RGB Illumination, even with limited options, once you get it set up, it looks great.
CONS:
- There are faster graphics cards on the market, BUT they are a good deal more expensive
- 500 GB Storage might not be enough for gamers with big libraries
- No free ram slots for a memory upgrade, must replace ram if you want 32GB
- Difficult to open, battery not secured to chassis
Conclusion:
Overall I really love this machine, it just FEELS snappy, even just navigating around in Windows. Its all a matter of preference but I highly recommend switching Windows to dark mode and setting the RGB on the keyboard to a combination of blue, purple, and pink. It REALLY matches the aesthetic of the default Acer desktop background which is actually quite good. Grab an extra hard drive and a wireless controller and you will be off to the races.

Disappointing Pixel Fault Experience with Acer

I'm writing this review to express my sincere disappointment with the Acer laptop I purchased just two months ago. While the brand's reputation and the laptop's price point promised a high-end, reliable computing experience, I find myself struggling with a frustrating issue: a stuck pixel on the screen.
For those unaware, a stuck pixel is an issue that typically manifests as a tiny, unchanging white, red, green, or blue dot on the screen. Over time, this minor flaw has proven to be a major source of distraction, particularly when viewing darker screens where it becomes extremely noticeable.
Given the cost and supposed quality of this laptop, I did not anticipate running into such a problem so early on. This is especially concerning considering I have taken good care of the device, with no instances of physical damage or misuse that could have possibly led to this problem.
What truly compounds my disappointment, however, is Acer's response to my predicament. When I contacted customer service for a solution, they promptly informed me that a single stuck pixel does not qualify for warranty coverage. This is quite shocking and contrary to what one might expect from a company of Acer's stature. The warranty, which is often a reassuring guarantee of support and coverage, apparently does not apply to a problem that significantly impairs my user experience.
While the rest of the laptop's functionality is not in question, the stuck pixel issue continues to be a consistent bother. As a consumer, I feel it's important to alert others about my experience. The absence of assistance from Acer and the lack of warranty coverage for such a glaring problem speaks volumes about the company's regard for customer satisfaction.
In conclusion, I regret to say that my experience with my Acer laptop and the company's after-sales service has been underwhelming, to say the least. I would advise potential buyers to consider these issues before making a purchase. After all, a laptop is an investment that should bring convenience and functionality, not frustration and regret.

I got 3 of these (for me and kids) and had to return 2 of them. One kept locking up and the other had fans that would run at full speed for no reason. Exchanged for an ASUS TUF.

Predator Helios Neo is a soild choice for gaming.

Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 is a good laptop with 1080p gaming. It has its shortcomings but overall the 3D graphics are nice on the large 16-inch screen Which is pretty useful for powerful programs. If you just want a great PC gaming and streaming device, This is a machine to own Helios Neo 16 is the perfect middle ground.
The design is nice and ACER came a long way from many years ago, I like the look and feel of the laptop. The issue with this design is the weight and that's a very big factor if you use this thing on the go. This isn't a laptop I would be moving around too much and with the included power brick; Helios is insane to carry at that point I would bump up to a higher screen size model if I had the extra money. This screen doesn't get that bright with 400 nits, I really wish the screen just was a little bit brighter.
That doesn't take away from the wonderful 16-screen size. Gaming on the 165 hz screen was awesome to experience. Using NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 everything ran great with DLSS 3.0 supported games boosting framerates at their highest and supports RT games. 16GB of RAM is enough for modern AAA titles.
Gaming on the device is fun and gave a great experience to the end user. There was nothing like playing Diablo 4 and Genshin Impact was smooth that's what mattered to me. Fortnite ran great on high settings. Predator Helios Neo 16 is wonderful but I would add more storage in the future, 512GB is just enough space for larger titles.
There is tons of connectivity here: 2x Thunderbolt 4, 1x HDMI 2.1, 3x USB-A 3.2, headphone jack. Wi-Fi has been really fast as well. There is an annoying boot sound that offputting. You are able to turn this off in the predator sense which is a useful application. This allows you to put the laptop in different power profile modes for use cases. When plugged in this gives you the maximum amount of power for gaming. The fan noise was better than I even expect on laptops of this size. For me, Everything stayed cool while gaming.
I would suggest you update the PC immediately there is a ton of updates that are required. Webcam and sound are not good at all. The sound is very teeny. Helios can get loud enough but nothing to write about. The keyboard is a standard affair here while there is RGB and it feels good to type on there are other laptops with better-feeling keyboards; The finish does feel good to type on. The Trackpad is very large plus it doesn't feel cheap.
At the end of the day, the price point and what the Predator Helios Neo 16 can do is excellent. This is for gaming and it does gaming well. No complaints from me. If you keep your expectations in this price bracket you can't go wrong with this at all. This is a great gaming PC to give a friend or family member who is looking to get into it. Great for gaming, great for powerful apps, and screen is great. Laptop was able to keep cool. I would just get some gaming headphones with these due to the sound.
