Ill start with the cons; Its a lil heavy. That being said its a bit hard to sneak it past my mommy and into the bathroom at night time. And the start up sound lets my neighbors and my neigbors’ neighbors know that im hardcore gaming at 4am. I hate finger prints and its a finger print magnet. Sometimes it randomly says I have no internet but a quick page refresh does the trick. The keyboard is cool but I don’t know how to keep it on while not typing. Maybe that’s purposeful? It can get hot but I didn’t expect it not to, but that seems to be a turn-off for some people. And there’s a slight glare on the screen during the day…also not that big of a deal. Anyways, onto the positives; the reviews had me worried but I LOVE it so far. Although, others may be a bit pickier than I am because I’m coming from a mac and know nothing about computers… and I’m currently only running a packed up and heavily modded Sims 4. In other words, my standards are low. Im just here for the 1TB and the ability to use gshade. Graphics are great, fps are even better. Makes me want to drop out of college, download a bunch of games, and become a twitch streamer.

Amazing laptop, it does everything I need it to do and then some. Games are clear with a great refresh rate. One of the best displays ive ever seen. Its a bit heavy with the charger, but you can't beat the performance. The laptop is customizable and very easy to setup, there is no lag whatsoever and the 14th gen i9 processor is a beast. My only complaint if I had to make one would be the battery life, but for what I need and use it for the battery life is not an issue for me.

A Good Laptop But Has A Small Issue

Got this laptop for christmas and let me say it is amazing I love it. It’s my first laptop so I don’t have much insight but I’ll give as much info as I can! It’s an amazing laptop and can run some demanding games okish I tried F1 24 and it started lagging whenever it was raining so that was really annoying. But it does do well with most games! I recently got 32 gig’s of ram to upgrade the 16 gig’s of ram that it comes with and when I opened it up I noticed several missing screws inside so that was pretty upsetting. Also another negative is that the battery life is pretty short it only lasted for around an hour and a half while playing minecraft. But in summary its a good laptop, does ok in demanding games, its missing somethings, a fast draining battery, but its really good overall!

A Powerful but Large Gaming Machine

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This Acer Predator Helios Neo is a neat gaming machine powerful enough to run any current game on the market. The powerful i9 processor and the high-end 4060 GPU allow for a beautiful and smooth gaming experience. This hefty hardware does come at a cost, a bulky and heavy gaming laptop. After having used this for a couple of days, I will cover the pros and cons of the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16” Gaming Laptop. *TLDR at the bottom ========= IN THE BOX/SET-UP: In the box, you get a 16” gaming laptop, a carrying case, power supply, and some documentation. Setup should not take too long but be warned that upon boot, the laptop will make a loud sound at the same time as the Predator logo appears. This is my second Acer Predator laptop, and I don’t know why this setting is on by default. Many are likely going to turn this deafening sound off. The last thing your roommate, family member, or spouse wants to hear is a blaring, and frankly, annoying sound coming out of your gaming laptop as you start a late-night gaming session. Fortunately, this sound can be turned off in BIOS settings. I would suggest doing that before setting up the laptop. Once that’s done, simply plug the laptop into power and begrudgingly go through Windows 11 setup which may take some time depending on the information you have. ========= DESIGN: The laptop is packed with high-end hardware. A 14th Gen i9, an NVIDIA 4060, and 16GB of memory should be more than enough to run all your games or, if you are in school, run office applications, or heavy modeling or video software. Now, this high-end hardware does come at a cost. The laptop is a whopping 6lbs and the power supply is massive and adds another couple pounds. I did take this laptop on a road trip with me and while it does fit into a typical business laptop bag, the weight that both the laptop and power supply add does get a bit uncomfortable. I did have other items in the bag but the extra 9-10 pounds or so is noticeable. Weight aside, the laptop does sport a neat Predator logo on the top panel. The logo’s color can be customized too! The keyboard is fairly ergonomic and has 4 customizable 4 RGB zones. The trackpad is large and easy to use. The rear contains the charging port, two USB-C's, and an HDMI port. There are also three USB-A's, ethernet, micro-SD, and an AUX port available on the sides. In conclusion, there are plenty of ports for all your peripherals! ========= PERFORMANCE: Now for the good stuff. I ran several benchmark software as well as played a variety of games throughout these past couple days. I will first cover the benchmark software. The first one I ran was 3D Mark. This was used to test out the computer’s gaming capabilities. PC Mark was used to test out the computer’s capabilities with modern office applications like Word, video conferencing software, web browsing, etc. Cinebench was used to test out the computer’s CPU rendering performance, and finally, CanYouRunIt was used to see how many of the top 9000+ games can this computer run. The scores for these benchmark applications can be seen below. 3D Mark Graphics Score: 10001 CPU Score: 12920 TimeSpy Score: 10351 PC Mark Overall Score: 8380 *Individual scores for a specific application in PC Mark image Cinebench CPU (Multi Core): 22940 CPU (Single Core): 2053 CanYouRunIt CYRI Score Min: 100% CYRI Score Rec: 99% *This score is the percentage of games your computer can run at the minimum and recommended requirement levels. I want to first note that I did run these benchmark software in balanced mode while plugged into power. (Balanced mode was selected through the PredatorSense software) Other modes will likely show different numbers. Even in balanced mode, this device performed extremely well. The laptop is perfectly capable of running games on high settings. I was able to test this gaming machine out in a variety of games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Control, Forza Horizon 5, and Destiny 2. I had set all these games to run on the highest setting, and they all performed well. While I wasn’t getting the highest refresh possible on this machine, everything ran buttery smooth. For example, on Rise of the Tomb Raider, I was averaging about 90FPS, which is great considering I had maxed out all settings. I was also able to do some light office work on this machine too. Honestly, this machine is overkill if you are looking to do anything office related. But I was satisfied to see that everything I did, performed swiftly. Whether that was opening a web browser, running Excel, coding, etc. all ran quickly. In short, this gaming machine should perform well in any situation. ========= FEATURES/OTHER NOTES: - There is some bloatware that comes preinstalled. - PredatorSense software is your go-to for device statistics, RGB customization, maintenance, etc. - While the sleek matte black color is nice, the laptop is a fingerprint magnet unfortunately. - The laptop performs atrociously on battery power, I was not getting the best performance anytime I would unplug it from power, I am sure it could perform better with different configurations. - There is a dedicated button to change performance mode located on the upper right-hand side - Boot logo can be customized to your liking - Speakers sound okay, I recommend using speakers or noise cancelling headphones - The Fans do get loud on Turbo mode, on the other hand, quiet mode is indeed “quiet” - Minimum bezels on the display - 1 free month of XBOX Game Pass Ultimate is included with the device. ========= CONCLUSION/TLDR: Overall, this is a solid high-end gaming laptop. This Acer Predator Helios Neo should be able to handle 99% of games currently on the market at the recommended settings. Pondering of using this as an office laptop? It is overkill, but the laptop should handle any office application one will throw at it. While the hardware is high-end, the bulkiness of the laptop and charger may cause troubles with portability which is not ideal for a “laptop.” But size aside, this is a great all-around laptop for someone who is looking for performance.

The Acer Helios 16 arrived well packaged in a typical laptop style box. I fully charged the laptop before setting up Windows. Setup was quick and problem free. It did update itself, which took a little time for it to do because there were quite a few items that needed updated. I think it updated the BIOS too, a couple of days later. I’m not repeating all the specs listed above, but I did list most meaningful ones where needed. I’m writing about how it worked for me compared to the other laptops I have reviewed in the past several years. Especially an Asus ROG from 2021. Yes, as expected, this laptop’s performance blows it away since it’s 3 years newer. I have its specs listed on down in the review. Running Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, Bridge and Premiere Pro, The Acer is around 2.5 faster on average. There’s extremely little to no discernable lag anywhere in Ps and LRC with typical photo editing. As expected, running complex tasks and features in Ps will vary, depending on the size and complexity of the image and what you’re doing to it. You can even speed it up more for those programs by expanding the memory to 32 meg of RAM and adding a larger faster second SSD. That’s what I plan to do. Quick Specs: 3 x USB-A 3.2 ports, 2 x Thunderbolt 4 ports, 1 x HDMI 2.1, WiFi 6, BlueTooth, Ethernet port, 16GB DDR 5 RAM at 5400, 1TB SSD, Headphone / microphone jack, MicroSD slot Super-fast Core i9 14900HX CPU. From what I’ve read, the fastest intel mobile chip currently available. From what I can tell, it lives up to it. Fast RAM and SSD to go with it. It shouldn't have any problems with anything you throw at it. See photos of benchmarks. The Nvidia graphics 4060 is on the lower end of their mobile offerings and the price reflects this. As expected, the higher end new Acer laptops in this series have higher end Nvidia graphics but share the same Intel Core i9 14900HX CPU. It’s 16 inch screen is FHD-1920X1200,165hz refresh. I verified 100% sRGB with my Datacolor Spyder Pro and percentages for NTSC, Adobe and P-3 color gamuts. Minimum reflections from the screen. The lid is aluminum and there's no twisting with raising the lid. See photos. As I stated before, it’s up to around 2.5 times faster than my Asus ROG I reviewed 3 years ago. It’s a Strix G15 AMD Advantage Edition, AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU and Radeon RX 6800M GPU, 16 GB DDR 4, 512 GB SSD, FHD screen with 300 hz refresh. The Asus does have a faster refresh rate screen It’s a little on the heavy side, but feels very well built and solid. I like the keyboard. It has a very nice feel for game play and typing as well. The keyboard’s RGB lighting is divided up into 4 zones, plenty of lighting effect options and intensity levels. It has a shortened right shift key to allow for the cursor up key and a dedicated MS Copilot key. The cooling fans are very quiet at low speeds and not as loud as the Asus at full speed. To put it another way, I didn’t find them as annoying at full speed or as loud as the Asus ROG or some of the other nongaming laptops I have reviewed. They do not whine or sound like the default startup sound. That thankfully can be disabled in the Acer Sense app. This laptop seems to run pretty cool, even under load. See thermal camera photos. Cons: MicroSD card reader is super slow. See photos. No physical shutter for the webcam. Not compatible with Windows Hello Notes: The power brick is fairly large, as expected for a gaming laptop. Battery life can vary depending on power settings. No high performance on battery power. Only Eco and Balanced are offered. Even on Eco, battery life is much shorter than your typical laptop. Even a typical gaming laptop from what I can tell. Not as long as the Asus with similar settings. In fact, its battery life at minimum settings is over 8 hours. Audio quality is Ok at default settings. Boxy sounding. Not as good as the smaller 14” OLED Asus Zenbook I recently reviewed or the Asus ROG. Conclusion: I think this is a fine gaming laptop for the price / performance ratio. I think it’s an excellent choice for a photographer / videographer / creative as well as a gamer. Highly recommended!

    ## Design This Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 gaming laptop features an aluminum lid while the rest of the laptop appears to be plastic. Although the laptop is somewhat bulky, the build quality feels sturdy and there are plenty of vents on the bottom, back and sides that should provide more than enough air flow. The display is beautiful with a nice, matte finish to reduce glare, IPS wide viewing angles, and features a fast 3ms response time and 165Hz refresh rate which makes for very smooth motion when gaming or watching videos. The keyboard has RGB backlighting and is good for both typing and gaming, but some of the buttons are smaller than you may be used to on other keyboards. This might be because the keyboard features two extra keys: a Windows CoPilot key and a PredatorSense key (for launching Acer's PredatorSense software). My one gripe would be that a loud, jarring "swoosh" sound plays whenever the laptop is powered on or rebooted. I was able to find an option to disable the sound (and keep the animation) in the BIOS. Tap F2 repeatedly while the laptop is powering on until you get to the BIOS screen. Press F1 for Advanced Settings, then select "Main" on the left-side menu. Leave the "POST Animation & Sound" setting on, but set "Sound" immediately below it to "Mute". Press F10 to exit (selecting the option to "Save & Exit"). Alternatively, both the sound and animation can be disabled in the PredatorSense software. The Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 gaming laptop has plenty of ports. On the left side, you'll find an Ethernet port (although the laptop has 6E Wi-Fi), USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port, a MicroSD card slot, and a headset jack. On the right, there's are two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports (one of which can charge your devices while the laptop is off), and the indicator lights for power and battery. On the back, there is the power port, two (!) Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, and a full-size HDMI 2.1 port. Unfortunately, there are no biometric sensors on the laptop (no Windows Hello webcam nor fingerprint reader), although the webcam does feature some nice AI features, such as making it appear that you're always looking at the camera. However, you will need to login to Windows with either a password or a PIN. ## Performance This Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 gaming laptop contains an Intel Core i9-14900HX processor, which is the latest high-end CPU from Intel’s Raptor Lake-HX Refresh lineup. It features 24 cores and 32 threads, with a turbo clock speed peaking at 5.8GHz, meaning it can handle even heavy-duty tasks. If you're rocking a rig with its predecessor -- the i9-13980HX -- the performance gains in this new generation are only marginal, so don't expect a significant boost on the processor alone. This laptop pairs the powerhouse processor with the powerhouse NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 with 8GB of dedicated GDDR6 VRAM. This card is about 20% faster than its predecessor (the RTX 3060) and features an efficient architecture for laptop computers. It's a mid-range card that provides a fair balance of cost with performance. The laptop also has a roomy 1024GB SSD drive and a nice 16GB of RAM (many would say that 8GB of RAM is the minimum you would want in a Windows 11 machine). This should give you plenty of storage for your games, as well as plenty of memory for running multiple programs at once. I tested this laptop with Fortnite, leaving the game auto-configure the performance settings and found that the game picked "Epic" and "High" for virtually all the settings. Performance while playing was impressive, averaging between 60-80 FPS, sometimes popping into the 100s on simple areas of the map. Motion looks buttery smooth and colorful on the matte 165Hz display. Fan noise can become problematic while gaming, but nothing a good pair of gaming headphones won't fix. Acer's "PredatorSense" software can be loaded by pressing the dedicated PredatorSense key on the keyboard (above the numeric pad on the right-side). This allows you to adjust many of the performance profiles (such as Balanced, Performance, Turbo, and Quiet), fan speed, as well as battery charging (you can limit it to 80% if you plan to keep the laptop plugged in a majority of the time). I ran the Cinebench benchmarking tool on the laptop on the out-of-the-box settings and found some very good results: - Cinebench Multi-core Score: 21,948 - Cinebench Single-core Score: 2,051 ## Summary Overall, the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 offers impressive performance, plenty of ports for connectivity, and ample SSD and RAM for most tasks. Fortnite runs great on it. Its bulky size doesn't make for a perfect travel companion, but its processing power and plethora of ports make it a great gaming (or working) machine for home.

The Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 is an absolute powerhouse. With the Intel Core i9-14900HX and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, this laptop handles everything I throw at it — from AAA games on ultra settings to demanding creative workloads like video editing and 3D rendering. The 16” WUXGA IPS display is stunning, offering sharp visuals and vibrant colors with smooth refresh rates that make gaming incredibly immersive. The 16GB DDR5 RAM and 1TB SSD ensure lightning-fast performance and plenty of storage for games and files. Thermals are well-managed thanks to Acer’s cooling system, and the design in Abyssal Black gives it a sleek, premium look without being too flashy. The keyboard is comfortable and responsive, with customizable RGB lighting that adds a nice touch. If you're looking for a high-performance gaming laptop that also excels in multitasking and creative work, this is a fantastic choice. Totally worth the investment!

The Acer Predictor laptop impresses with its sleek, modern design and handles everyday tasks well with medium-level performance. However, its significant weight makes it less portable and better suited for stationary use. Ideal for users prioritizing aesthetics and basic functionality over mobility or high-performance demands. Also the discount of it lasted really long. Unlike HP and ASUS, the capability adjusting software haven’t been completely naturally in the system.

With the cooling pad, it runs absolutely great in games. Ive played call of duty modern warfare 3, halo infinite, destiny 2, and fortnite on the laptop, been gettin over 150fps on 1080p high settings, destiny 2, cod, is a beast on 1200p on high settings. So far it’s been a great gaming laptop, there is the button that you can press which flips it from quiet mode to balanced, performance and turbo which over clocks GPU and CPU although loud from the fans it performs very well. So far it’s been a great laptop and I’m happy with the purchase. If you see it on discount you can’t go wrong with it. Only thing I’d say is that the charging cable\block is very big so it’s not the most portable thing to carry around. Battery can drain quickly even on ECO mode but it’s expected on power house like this one.

It's a really decent gaming laptop for the price. You will be able to play all the most recent games coming out. Maybe not on ultra/top end settings, but I was able to play the new Dragon Age game (rip my fellow DA fans...) on high settings with no frame rate drops or performance issues or crashing. Doesn't get too hot. Isn't insanely loud like my old acer predator. It's not really upgradeable other than adding more ram or storage, but the processor is definitely decent enough to hold up for years to come if you take care of it. I've had no issues running any games in my library on this machine, and it was cheaper than the much lower end gaming laptop I bought in 2021, go figure.

We purchased this laptop as an upgrade for my wife's laptop that had a failing screen. She wanted something a little more robust for her casual gaming, and some online friends recommended this computer as a great option. The display is much clearer than her previous laptop, and I am jealous of how well it handles her games (often multiple instances running at the same time) and other applications as well to allow for multi-tasking. We are very satisfied with the purchase, and I am hoping to get one for myself in the future!
