Excellent computer, purchased for my son. He’s very happy. I was happy because I got it for 12 months interest free. Everyone is happy and now the computer is almost paid off. Still runs great, very fast. The only thing I would upgrade is the fans.

Neat Design, Great Specs for Gaming

The first thing I noticed when opening this out of the box was the design of the PC. The front and side panels are glass with the standard powder coated metal for the rest of the chassis. There’s a funnel design element for the fans in the front that give it a nice aesthetic. The fan on the CPU cooler is also RGB to illuminate from behind the glass panel, as well as the exhaust. The case front I/O has 3 USB type A ports and 1 USB type C port which is nice to quickly plug and unplug any accessories. There’s a recessed vent at the top which promotes throwing things like flash drives in but I wouldn’t recommend covering this up as it helps exhaust some of the heat. As for performance, I’ve been playing COD, Apex, and New World, all at max settings. COD averaged around 72 FPS at 4K on max settings. Although I was getting closer to 112 FPS at 2k max settings which is more ideal with a higher refresh rate monitor. New World, a game in my opinion you want the higher resolution for better visuals, averaged around 65-75 FPS at max settings at 4k resolution. I only saw frames drop when I was in town and there were a lot of other players on screen. You could probably tone down some of the settings and prevent this. Otherwise, out in the open world, it played great. I’m not a great Apex player but the story is the same, max settings, averaged around 110FPS. The 3080 in this system is where you’re going to see all of the gaming advantages. The card in this system has 3 fans which seems to carry the best cooling. I didn’t see temps above 73 degrees when playing games. There is a bit of headroom for overclocking if you’re into that, but I didn’t feel the need to. As for CPU performance, the 12700f checks the box. It’s not super powerful like the enthusiast grade CPUs that are out there, but the 1st generation E core and P core design outputs some impressive performance and remained cool the whole time doing it. I think this is a great balance if you’re main goal is gaming and don’t plan on doing any type of heavy video editing or CAD design. Although, I do think it’ll still handle those tasks, but you’ll have to be patient with it. Also worth noting it comes with the stock intel air cooler from what I can tell. Since there’s no overclocking this type of cooler is plenty enough. The system comes with 3 RGB case fans and a CPU fan. All of these can be controlled in the predator sense app. The main menu of the app offers a quick glance at temperatures, profile settings, and quick fan selection. You can then use the menu on the left to set custom profiles to lighting, cooling, as well as a system monitor to see system voltage, usage, as well as temperatures. Storage has a great balance of 1TB SDD and 2 TB HDD. You can put your steam library on the 2TB HDD and move you’re commonly played games onto the 1TB NVMe drive for a bit faster load times. RAM is 2 8 TB DDR5 sticks. The CAS latency comes in at 36 which is pretty good for DDR5 but 16GB is the bare minimum in my opinion for gaming, but it doesn’t diminish the experience. There’s a really neat hard drive dock that plugs the drives into a stationary SATA and molex so hot swapping the drives should be very easy to do. What makes it easy is you can quick release the glass side panel with a lever on the back to go in swap hard drives and upgrade components. Also I noticed a slot for another M.2 SSD if you have one to slot in. However, I didn’t see a hold down screw included, hopefully you’re drive came with one. It's easy to get to as well, located just off the side of the motherboard. I/O for the motherboard is pretty good. You get a 2.5 GB ethernet which is nice to see along with 5 type A and a type C USB ports. Also if you prefer to use Wi-Fi or in a part of your house where you can wire it to a router, it connects at 2.5gb if you’re router supports it. All together that’s 8 USB type A and 2 type C you can connect. Beyond that there’s not much else. I would have liked to have seen an optical audio out but by no means a deal breaker. There’s also a keyboard and mouse that comes with this system. They’re both wired and RGB. The mouse has two extra buttons on the left that can be used and a center button behind the scroll wheel that switches RGB color. I wouldn’t say there’s anything special about either but it’s nice to see them included. Really just a TV or monitor would be all that’s needed to get you gaming out of the box. I would say most people have a TV and an HDMI cable to get started, Acer will include the mouse and keyboard on their end. Overall I think this is a great gaming machine. It’s a nice replacement for what I had before and there’s a path of upgradability if you want a better processor, add RAM, or need to hot swap out hard drives. I’m happy to see it’s taken everything I’ve thrown at it and I look forward to using it as my daily driver for years to come.

Great machine with plenty of muscle

I've played on gaming machines of all types and you can pretty much boil everything down to several different categories that will either make or break a good gaming assembly. Processor, graphics card, case and storage. The Predator Orion 5000 is a very worthy gaming machine. It has the muscle in the right places and while some might argue there's room for improvement, my opinion is, there's always room for improvement if money is no object. To offer a solid machine with quality components at a price that doesn't require a mortgage, is difficult to do, but it seems that Acer has found a way to do just that. For starters, you get a 12th generation Intel core i7-12700 processor. This is a solid choice and it's been around awhile now. I tend to favor the Intel line, but that's just personal preference. There are obviously other processors they could have chosen and if you go to the Acer web site, you can set up a machine like this with anything you like. But, why do that if they've done the work for you and offer a machine like this off the shelf? To compliment the processor, you get 16GB of DDR5 RAM. If you feel this is a little low, you can add up to 64GB of memory. 16 is adequate, but doubling that would have been a nice touch, but for the price, this is fine for most games and I didn't see any problems with any of the games I play. The case is where the Orion 5000 part of the name comes in. With it you get a lot of behind the scenes features that support the electronics as well as awesome lighting effects. You have two fans at the front that are installed in a well ventilated section of the case. These are FrostBlade fans and they offer design benefits like custom fan blades, anti-vibration padding and rifle bearings. This all translates into efficient, quiet fans. There's also a similar CPU fan and exhaust fan on the rear panel. The left side panel is dark tinted glass. The right side panel is EMI-compliant to help protect the internal components from interference. The case also houses the 800W power supply, which is pretty beefy by itself but it's also what the graphics card recommends using, so good to see they didn't cut corners here. There's a host of I/O ports included both on the rear panel and on the top. On the top you get 3 – USB-A ports and a USB-C port along with mic and audio out jacks. On the rear you have 4 more USB-A jacks and another USB-C jack. As a bonus you also get a red USB 3.2 port capable of 20Gbps transfer speeds. There's a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port as well as a wireless network connection. Plus the standard audio jacks. The case also comes with not only fantastic lighting effects, but also the app you need to customize the way they behave and the colors they emit. There are LEDs in all the fans as well as extra LEDs right on the motherboard to help light things up inside. Really nice that you can customize all the lighting. This is all done through the PredatorSense app which also monitors things like fan speeds and temperature. The case itself does not include liquid cooling for the processor, it's all air cooled, but I never noticed any excessive heat. The really bonus addition with this machine is the nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card. This is a beautiful card in itself and is able to do ray tracing effects as well. The card has 10GB of dedicated memory plus two integrated fans of it's own. No RGB lighting on it but the GeForce RTX label is beautifully large and lighted along the edge. This is a pretty serious card and I'm glad Acer has decided to bump things up to this level. Yes, yes, they could have gone a step further with the next generation 4000 series, but how much do you want to spend?? I found the 3080 to be a very competent graphics card. The ray tracing features alone are well worth it. I use a 34” Samsung curved monitor at 3440 x 1440 resolution, and all the games I played looked absolutely stunning. The machine was able to support playing any game I tried at this resolution with all the video adjustments fully topped out. Nvidia has taken these gaming features a step further by developing custom game drivers that are specific for the game you're playing. The cool thing was that I didn't have to tell it what games I had and then go look for the right drivers to install, it does it all for you through the GeForce Experience app. For the most part I played Doom Eternal, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and the nvidia remake of Quake 2 RTX. All of them made me want to go back through all my games just to see how they look with this card. Games like the newest Tomb Raider series are amazingly beautiful. The lighting and water effects are incredible and very noticeable. Honestly, I just take time to wander around in the game looking at everything. I've included some screen shots, but they don't do the card enough justice. You need to see it for yourself. I was a little worried that the only storage on the machine was the 1TB SSD M.2 drive but there's also a 2TB HDD as well, so you can store quite a bit of games on this portion and use the SSD for things that can really benefit from the super quick access times. I found this Predator Orion 5000 machine to be really well balanced as far as components. Everything is well matched and offers you a really great gaming experience. The case looks really cool and in addition to the internal lighting, the Predator logo lights up on the front. Acer also included a wired RGB keyboard and mouse. I did try them, and they are pretty nice but I already have the keyboard and mouse that I like to use so I stuck with them. Needless to say that if you want to run any apps beside games, you won't be disappointed with the performance. I also do a lot of graphical design and it was really a pleasure to work on this machine. My experience with it so far has been all positive. I think Acer has put together a really fantastic machine that at the same time, is affordable for a large number of gamers.

Incredible value in a pre-built gaming desktop

Fantastic… Amazing… Incredible… Wonderful… God-Like… It is hard to overstate the feeling one gets while they gaze upon the wonder that is the Predator Orion 5000 (I’ll just call it the ‘5000’ after this), and utilize it to run some of the highest FPS games you’ve ever run. I’ve had plenty of gaming laptops, with their associated cooling problems and throttling, but never have I owned an actual gaming desktop, one with cooling fans out the wazoo and an excellent 4K compatible NVIDIA card that displays graphics with ease. Whether I watched movies streamed in 4K or played Halo Infinite in 4K, the 5000 had no issues. The only way I could tell that the PC was challenged was when the 4 built-in, LED backlit fans kicked into overdrive. The 5000 handled almost everything I threw at it. Resident Evil Village, 1080P, 60 FPS? No problem. Gameplay was exceptionally smooth. Shadow of the Tomb Raider, 4K, at 60 FPS? This one got the fans going a bit, but still provided an amazing, beautiful, visually stunning picture. I have had this game at lower frame rates and resolution absolutely overheat and throttle expensive gaming laptops. I finally found the Achilles heel of the 5000 when I tried to play Far Cry 6 in 4K. Even at lower frame rates, gameplay and motion was jittery. At 1080P and 60 FPS, no problem whatsoever. This game is a really good torture test for CPUs, and at the 4K resolution the 5000 finally gave up. Still, considering the pre-built nature of this product and the good price, one cannot be upset that it took an extremely demanding game to finally bog it down. I am super impressed with the 5000. It is beautiful, its acrylic side allowing you to look right in on the GE Force RTX 3080 graphics card in all its glory. An i7 processor, 16 gigs of memory, and 3 terabytes of storage (2 TB drive and 1 TB SS drive) make this an absolute beast. It is huge, gorgeous, capable, and upgradeable. You simply can’t ask for more without spending a lot more.

Still a great value compared to newest gen price

This acer gaming PC is still a great value as far as price to performance is concerned. 12th gen i7 paired with a 3080 plus 4400mhz ddr5 ram and a gen 4 predator branded nvme plus an extra 2tb HDD(game Drive). All the parts still give you great gaming performance with hard to run titles like warzone, resident evil, metro exodus and the like. At 1440p this is a beast. And at 4K it’s still plenty worth it especially if you use dlss. The motherboard is an acer branded h670. With solid port options and nicely build. Although this board can not be upgraded to 13th gen Intel and the Ram is locked to 4400mhz speeds. Minor disappointment but this is a prebuilt and it’s understandable. The cpu cooler is nice and pretty, even. But it’s not built to keep hot Intel chips super cool unfortunately. You will hit higher temps but you can always upgrade the cooler to a 240mm radiator up top on the case( you will need a o remove the motherboard from the case) be careful not no! Acer was smart to make the top vent part easy to remove to install a Rad. Fans are a rifle bearing style fan and work great they allow a lot of air in and are very quiet. The case is a huge selling point for most people i believe as this case is very nice looking. And built solid. I love the design. The power supply is an 800 watt lite on brand. This will allow for upgrades to the gpu if you want to get a 40 series card. The WiFi is built into the case and is super fast and never loses connection. RGB software works better than many RGB programs. Easy to change setting to fans, keyboard, mouse and even the RGB included on the motherboard itself. This will light up the whole room lol. I’m loving this pc. And I can not wait for acer to release their new prebuilts with the newer generation parts. They definitely build quality gaming PCs. I recommend as the newer gen parts are imo very expensive so last gen is a smart bet.

Very solid gaming PC, few mild caveats

TLDR - With a few caveats, (heat/power consumption, not efficient/proprietary motherboard/slower ram + only 16GB) this is a super solid 1440p gaming desktop for the time being, and should run 1080p ultra at higher FPS for at least a few years. Looks great, boots/runs quickly in all normal tasks, nice lighting. (bonus RGB Keyboard and mouse, mouse is actually solid, but I would get a dedicated gaming keyboard) CPU - the 12700f is decidedly last gen, and seems like its an odd choice in a PC in 2023, BUT luckily Acer realized this, and they set PL1 to 180w! To put that in perspective, the 12700k has a stock PL1 of 125w. So the 12700f is completely unleashed to run as fast as it can, WITHIN thermal limits, which is one of my caveats I have. They put a large, flat heatsink/fan, but in my 20+ years of PC building/repair, it’s probably only rated for dissipating somewhere around 90-120w. Tower heatsinks in line with the needed thermal load do not cost much, so personally I’d think about upgrading that. (I hit 101c in Cinebench R23 and the new 2024 version, and it thermal throttles) BUT because of the 180w PL1, it’ll still sit right at thermal limits and push extremely solid numbers, listed below: 3DMark time spy CPU - 14389 Cinebench R23 multi - 20804 Cinebench 2024 multi - 1052 GPU - the RTX 3080 is also obviously last gen, but with the crazy pricing of new 4xxx series cards, the 3080 still has a place in 2023. (this is a “Predator” branded 3 fan OEM unit, hits 90c+ memory junction, which is still fine, but hot) Luckily 10GB of GDDR6X is still solid, and over a 320bit memory bus, you have extremely solid memory bandwidth. It does struggle in Starfield (like every GPU does), but you can still pull 1080p high around 50-55fps in the worst areas. In MW2 using the built in benchmark, I pulled 142fps at 1080p ultra, and 68fps at 4K ultra with zero scaling. With scaling enabled, you can get good high refresh level of around 170-180fps at 1080p @basic settings with DLSS set to “quality”. (still looks decent, and is great for a 144-165hz+monitor) GPU Benchmarks below: 3Dmark Time Spy - overall score 17061/Graphics score 17640 3Dmark Speedway - 3783 3Dmark Time Spy Stress Test - 97.3% “passed” (will stay solid for long gaming sessions) Ram - The Ram in this Predator is one of the low points. Only 16GB of DDR5 4400 really holds back at least a few % more FPS. The space that this system competes with, should have double the ram, and even just regular JEDEC speeds of DDR5 4800. (or XMP with faster speeds/timings, RAM is cheap these days) SSD - the SSD is a Micron unit (Crucial’s parent company) that is actually VERY quick, and not what I expected in an OEM prebuilt. Crystal Disk Mark 8.0.4 turned out peak speeds of over 6GB/s read and 5GB/s write. I’m used to OEM companies saying “PCIE 4.0 drive included” and having the drive be only slightly faster than the fastest 3.0 drives. Cooling/fans/software - the “frostblade 2.0” fans do move a good amount of air at speed, but end up being quite loud. Leaving the option on “auto” or tuning the fan speeds to suit your tastes is way recommended vs the LOUD top speed option. The RGB and fans are all editable with the predatorsense app, which is barely a 2/5 in my book, its slow, clunky, and looks dated. Luckily you can set and forget, and not always be using the app. Power supply - the power supply is OEM, but I could see its an 800w 80+ gold rated LiteOn OEM unit, which is impressive considering the specs. You could get away with a 650w gold PSU, but would be pushed, BECAUSE using my kill a watt power meter, this system will pull near 500w during hard areas of Starfield!! This is only a bit less power than my 7700x/7900XTX system will pull. (system showing 99% GPU usage and higher CPU usage when I hit 497w) To summarize, if you’re looking for a stylish, solid, fast, albeit power hungry and hot, you will not go wrong with this Acer Predator Orion 5000!

Gaming Powerhouse in a Stylish Package

The Predator Orion 5000 gaming desktop is beautiful computer rig that has stylish features with the latest and greatest technology! Upon opening the box you can see its very will packaged and was kept safe during transit. This one arrived by mail and survived the journey. Everything was neat and orderly in its compartments so that was appreciated. Another thing is the packaging wasn't overbearing so didn't have a lot of waste to endure after getting it all out and set up. Pulling it out and getting it setup took all of 5 minutes as I peeled off the protective sticker on the glass material and plugged in the very stylish keyboard and mouse they included. AS you can see in the included pictures I had to remove two small screws to pull off the side panel, which is released by an intuitive push down button on the back side of PC. Once case was opened i was pleasantly pleased how spacious it was for future upgrades. The only drawback I saw was the ram expansion slots were covered by the CPU fan. This rig comes with 16GB DDR5 4400Mhz which is sufficient for any modern game these days, but for those of us that like to max it 64GB would have been nice for more clearance. If you do want to upgrade you will need to remove the heatsink and then put back down after installing the other sticks. Speaking of the CPU fan, its massive but its vibrant when lit up as it cools the powerful i7-12700F CPU which is a beast in video games and your daily tasks. The GPU is where the moneymaker is, its a Branded Acer Predator Nvidia 3080. Its a massive card in its own right and they have built in a support bracket to hold the card up which is super strong. Albeit this GPU and CPU are from the last generation offerings, (Alder-Lake series) and the short lived 3000 series Nvidia GPUS. The good thing is these paired together still offer top notch performance marks at all levels just at a better price point. I hooked this gaming rig up to an Aurous Gigabyte 2560x1440p 165hz Gaming Monitor to test it out The results were outstanding! Games I played were Call of Duty- Warzone, Starfield, God Of War, Spiderman, Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. COD Warzone: 1440p Ultra-90-115FPS God Of War: 1440p Ultra- 101-120FPS Spiderman: 1440p Ultra RT on- 72-97 FPS Witcher 3: 1440p Ultra 120-170 FPS Cyberpunk: 1440p Ultra 62-75 FPS Starfield: 1440p Ultra 55-73 FPS This Computer rig is a beast at 1440P gaming at Ultra settings and it loves the Ray Tracing capabilities. The speed in which games boot up is amazing thanks to the 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen 4 SSD and surprise there is a 2TB HDD in the rig as well to really store some good stuff! It does come with the Killer 2.5G ethernet controller for less latency as well as the powerful Intel Wi-Fi-6E AX211 (Gig+) control for super fast internet. I tried on Wi-Fi and was getting 1 Gig speeds. Additionally, The RGBs are a nice touch and the ability to customize to your preferred color is always welcomed. Overall, this rig is powerful and capable to handle any game you throw at it and will churn out some massive frames for a buttery smooth and fast gaming experience!.

Excellent for gaming out of the box

Acer created a pretty great prebuilt for people wanting to game out of the box asap. I commend them for choosing quality parts for those not too tech savvy to provide an excellent experience. Even after setting up Windows 11, there is little to no bloatware to remove. Just remember you need to supply your own monitor and speakers (unless you plan of using headphones all the time). In the box is a well protected PC, mouse, keyboard and your typical paperwork to get you started. ---Included Hardware--- I have built PC's many years so the first thing I like to do is open it up and check the insides. Now the included diagram shows that the tempered glass side should be easy to remove with the press of a button to remove, but forgets to tell you to unscrew the 2 side panel screws to make it so. Props to ACER for making sure all common plugs prone to becoming loose in transport are held down with tape. The 3080 is securely and I mean securely fastened to the chassis in multiple areas to not only protect it from coming loose, but also to prevent the dreaded GPU sag. Cable management is a solid 8/10 keeping clear to maximize airflow and look aesthetically pleasing. Your 1tb boot drive is a Micron NVMe. Also included is a 2tb Toshiba 7200rpm mechanical HDD for storage in the easy-to-use swappable 5.25 bays. 12th gen i7 12700F CPU with air cooled heatsink and ARGB fan is good enough to play the latest AAA titles with no fuss while paired with the RTX 3080. 16gb of generic DDR5 made by Samsung is installed running at 4400mhz. The rig is powered by a LiteOn 800w 80+GOLD PSU and a good choice given all the components. The motherboard is a proprietary micro ATX that gives you little options for upgrades down the road. Including the CPU fan, there are 4 total aRGB fans to bring in, cool and exhaust airflow in the case, but I find the design to be constrictive for the front fans to bring in adequate cool fresh air as the intake is just ~2" side grill around the front glass. ---Performance--- I use my own KB and Mouse and also using an UW 3440 x 1440p OLED for my experience. Gaming is no issue as I prefer 2k (1440p) gaming. Most of my time was spent on Starfield. Playing on Ultra, I got a respectable 50-60fps at all times, but according to my tests, I was GPU bottlenecked all the time too. Other games played just fine on High/Ultra settings as well including GoW, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and of course Baldur's Gate 3. When even being a last gen CPU and GPU, they both perform excellent for modern gaming. If you are a 1080p (FHD) gamer, then this will fit and exceed your needs. ---Cooling--- Even though the tower stays quiet, performance for the fans leaves more to be desired. Yes you can use the included Predator Sense software to not only control the colors of the fan, but also speeds. I left it on AUTO while gaming the first couple of days and noticed, no matter what temps were, they never changed in speed. I do NOT like temps rising in the 90s-100s C for CPU ever. Blame this for always water cooling my rigs lol. But when I decided to manually set the fans speed %, temps dropped almost instantly. I do not know if that's a glitch in the software or if the software's curves are set differently but I do not want my electronics to wear out faster than they should. ---Upgrades--- *Skip this part if you don't want or plan on changing out parts* While limited, you can upgrade a few things and I HIGHLY recommend you do if you want the best out of this Predator. 1st is the RAM and the most annoying part of the upgrades. 16gb is not enough for modern day gaming. I decided to get a 32gb kit from Best Buy as DDR5 has dropped so much in price recently and they were on sale. So take note, the RAM slots from left to right (of the CPU) are 4, 2, 3, 1. DIMM slot 4 is BLOCKED by the underperforming big heatsink and must be replaced if you want to use 4 sticks of RAM. Since I only wanted to replace 2 sticks, this wasn't a big deal for me. Next when I went into the BIOS, the RAM was recognized but only at 4400 speed instead of the rated 6000. I went to enable XMP as you should and found it to be disabled?!?! After researching, I found out that ACER shipped the rig with an older/outdated BIOS R01-A1. I had to go into Windows 11 Settings - Windows Updates - Advanced Options - Optional Updates and the new firmware was there. After downloading and installing the recent BIOS should be R01-B0. From there, XMP option was enabled, but I quickly learned my RAM was incompatible. As I turned on XMP and restarted, I was in an infinite BOOT LOOP for about 5 minutes until the BIOS just reverted back to factory settings. Found out the kit was incompatible and set it aside for a new build later and went back to buy another kit at lower speeds. Installed another kit rated at 5600MHz and enabled XMP and this time it worked. This whole situation alone is the reason for knocking off a star. 2nd is the CPU cooler. As the heatsink gets in the way anyways for the RAM and in my opinion doesn't cool to my standards. I opted for an AIO 240mm. There is space on the top for either a 120mm rad (don't even think about it) or a 240mm. Once the old heatsink and thermal paste was removed, there is plenty of clearance to install the rad and fans with no issues. Not only does this open DIMM slot 4 if you want to upgrade down the line, thermals dropped dramatically to a nice comfort level. 3rd is the weirdly placed slot for adding another NVMe drive. Not saying it's a bad thing at all. In all honesty, it made installation easy and gave the PC a "unique" look (take a look at the pics). It is on the right side of the MB directly above the GPU. It installs outward and actually screws into the CASE for mounting. In the end, if you are just looking for a PC that is great all around for doing multiple things including gaming, streaming etc, this Predator is definitely a looker. If you have some skills in the hardware area too and read above, this tower will last you a while before even thinking about replacing it.

Acer continues to impress me in the OEM PC Gaming market, first with their monitor offerings, then with their laptops, and now with their pre-built Gaming Desktop. They've steadily built up their premium Predator line-up with aggressive looks exemplified by their Transformers-like logo, their high performance component selection and overall user experience. The Orion 5000 with Intel i7 12700F and Nvidia RTX 3080 is an interesting offering because it is technically a "last-gen" offering with Ampere-based RTX 3000 series graphics (Nvidia has Ada-based 4000 series now) and also 12th gen Alder-Lake Intel CPU (13th gen Raptor Lake and soon 14th gen will be out soon). The good news is these parts were once near the top of performance charts so they still perform very well, especially for the price tag. In fact, there was a time the 3080 due to scalping commanded the same price as this system did. Crazy times. Now, this system is a great upper tier PC that can handle 2560x1400p at high 100+FPS or even 3440x1440p Ultra-Wide in the 80-100 range. I paired it with an Alienware 3440x1440p 144Hz display and it performs well. In more demanding games, Nvidia's AI-based upscaling DLSS can be used to render at a lower internal resolution and then upscale that to a higher target resolution. This naturally gives you higher frame rates at the expense of image fidelity compared to native resolution, although with DLSS 2+ the result is still very good and often well worth it due to the higher frame rates. In terms of performance, I've been fortunate to have my own 4090 system and at previous points I also owned a 3080 and 3090 so I have some 3DMark results to compare against. I also have an Acer laptop with an RTX 4060 to compare against. You can see from the 3DMark results that the 3080 system is roughly half the performance of the 4090 and about 75% of the 3090. In reality, the 3080 is probably within 10-15% of the 3090, however, with more current games that 10GB is a bit of a limiting factor and will generally mean you will need to turn down texture quality from Ultra/Max to High. Still a small tradeoff and unless you are trying to run 4K, not many are going to have complaints about the 3080 performance which is still fantastic. Compared to current-gen GPUs, it is roughly equivalent to a 7800XT from AMD or a 4070 from Nvidia. Temps acceptable and noise levels are exceptional given it is a pre-built PC and the CPU can't be overclocked. I was really surprised to see the CPU uses the "stock" large Intel radial/flower style cooler that they discontinued packaging with their desktop CPUs some time ago. It is on the beefier end and undoubtedly has the copper insert with aluminum fins. It also appears to be fully bolt-through rather than the push-pin mounting style, which was terrible. Temps were generally in the 60-70 range during lighter gaming loads, occasionally spiking into 90C on single cores under higher loads. I was mainly surprised at how quiet the whole system ran and while it only included 3 case fans, airflow from those fans was overall good. There are hole mounts to add fans and radiators and I'll cover that some more in a bit. The GPU is a 3 smaller fan design with a nice beefy heatsink. It has Acer all over it, so no FE or use of some other OEM GPU. The actual heatsink and LED Geforce RTX logo are larger and more aggressive looking than the stock BB photo. While the GPU did tend to get a bit hot under gaming loads, up to 74C on the core, it stayed SUPER quiet which was very impressive. The RAM hit 96C but that is normal for 3000 series cards. The Motherboard is actually mATX in size with some creative extensions and you can add an m.2 drive. To access the existing m.2 is not easy however, and you'll need to remove the GPU and maybe even the CPU cooler to get to it. The GPU also has a support bracket that runs the entire horizontal length of the case. This along with the drive bay cages at the bottom will limit your options for adding a 2x140mm or 2x120mm All-in-one cooler to your system. You can remove both but that may void your warranty. Similarly, the system only comes with 16GB of RAM, which is probably my only complaint about its specs. I replaced the 2x8GB DDR5 sticks and replaced them with 2x16GB DDR5 I had that were extra to give the system 32GB total. However, if you wanted to add more RAM in all 4 DIMM slots, you're going to have to remove the heatsink as well to get to the left-most DIMM slot. Also another nice touch that isn't listed in the system specs is that my PC came with a 2TB HDD in one of the drive cages, which is pretty cool for storing files and such that aren't as performance intensive. I would still recommend launching the OS from the m.2 SSD and also installing games there and then adding another m.2 SSD at some point down the line for more games or apps. The quick swap drive cages and IO on the top are all nice touches that you see on higher end cases. I also liked the radial cages in front of the fans in front. They may seem like they are cosmetic, but that extra distance helps air intake a lot for good airflow. Overall the system is quiet and while its not super cool, you can always add additional fans up top to help airflow. The PSU is a quality 800W unit from Lite-On (solid OEM that used to make really nice optical drives). I didn't see if it had extra power leads but it is more than enough to power this system and again, it is virtually silent in operation. The side panel is a super heavy tempered glass that you can easily remove by removing two screws from the back and sliding it off. Looks great and the cabling inside is nice and tidy. Lastly, the BIOS is very responsive with the included keyboard and mouse, which are solid quality for freebies. There's no overclocking features for the CPU or RAM, which is understandable since this is a pre-built, but the system detected the Crucial RAM 32GB kit right away even though it shipped with Samsung RAM. Otherwise the BIOS did have some advanced features, like the ability to shut off E cores, choose Boot drives, Fan speed monitoring and a few other options I wasn't expecting to see. Overall this is a system that will make any PC gamer or home productivity user very happy. It looks great and the RGB isn't overdone, its extremely quiet, and it performs really well and feels super snappy and responsive. The 8P cores and 4E cores give plenty to work with for multi-tasking, gaming and productivity and there's still some options for expandability and upgrades down the road. I'm very impressed with this system overall!

There’s a lot to cover here, so let's just get right to it. The box contains the PC itself, a keyboard and mouse, the power cable, and a small quick-start document. The machine itself is a little larger than many ATX mid-towers, coming in at over 20" in height. __________ The Case: The inside of the case is roomy with plenty of room for components. It with 2 140mm RGB fans on the front as intake, and one 120mm RGB fan on the rear for exhaust. It's rare to see 140mm fans in a prebuilt, but very welcome. They tend to move significantly more air than 120mm fans, allowing them to operate at a lower speed and noise level. There is room at the top of the case to mount either 2 additional 120mm fans, or a 240mm liquid CPU cooler. While a microATX board comes installed, the case appears capable of handling up to an E-ATX board once the secondary NVME drive bracket is removed (the motherboard's second NVME slot is at the edge of the board, more on that in a bit). There are two brackets for 3.5" hard drives, with SATA/Power connectors in the brackets. If you have any of these drives (a 2TB drive comes preinstalled as secondary storage), you can just snap one into the bracket and slide it in, and you're done, which is a nice feature. There are two additional mounts behind the motherboard for 2.5" drives, though you will need sata cables to connect them to the motherboard. The cables themselves are reasonably managed from the factory, primarily black and mostly routed through the back of the case, resulting in a clean look internally. The side panels are held to the case with 2 screws, with the tempered glass panel also being held by a quick-release trigger on the back, which does a good job of holding the panel in place by itself, allowing for very easy access. The glass panel itself is tinted grey and emblazoned with the Asus Predator logo, which has a sort of dark chrome metallic sheen, and looks very classy. The power button and front Predator logo are both lit up in a light blue that you don't seem to be able to change. Overall, this is one of the best cases I've ever seen in a prebuilt, and Acer did a great job here. __________ The CPU: The Intel i7-12700F that's installed in this system has 8 hyperthreaded performance cores for running games and tasks, and 4 efficiency cores for things running in the background. This helps keep background tasks from interfering with the performance of whatever it is you're actively doing. It is not overclockable, and has no integrated graphics. Although a generation old, it's still a powerhouse for pretty much anything you can throw at it. With a base TDP of 65w, it has very cool idle temps, and can hit a maximum of 180w under full load. The CPU is cooled by a rather hefty looking heatsink with a 120mm RGB fan mounted on top that manages to keep the CPU cool under gaming load. I was still able to hit throttling temps while stress-testing the CPU, but you’ll never hit that during normal usage. __________ The GPU: Also a generation old at this point, the high-end Nvidia RTX 3080 10GB remains one of the best cards on the market for gaming at QHD resolution (sometimes called 1440p or 2k). It's fully capable of handling games at 4K resolution, but you may need to either turn down the settings a bit or use upscaling (DLSS or FSR) to achieve a solid 60 frames per second. It features 3 DisplayPort and 1 HDMI connection, and has a metal backplate with the Predator logo engraved on it. There's a large lit GeForce RTX logo on the card, but it is not RGB or adjustable. I couldn’t enable G-sync on my monitor through HDMI, but it worked with no problem over DisplayPort. __________ The Motherboard: The motherboard is a proprietary Acer Predator model and appears to be running Intel's H610 chipset. It does not allow for CPU or memory overclocking, so while you can certainly add plenty of additional memory to this system (I tested a pair of 16gb 6000Mhz sticks I had lying around), it will not run at speeds higher than 4400 Mhz. I updated the BIOS to the latest version in hopes that it would add additional memory support for higher speeds, but it did not. It features two M.2 slots for 2280 NVME drives (one of these is used by the preinstalled primary drive), and has a third where an M.2 WiFi module is installed. This second slot is located at the edge of the motherboard, and this specific case has a mounting bracket for a 2280 NVME drive. If you remove this bracket or move this motherboard to a different case, this slot will be unusable. If you do not need WiFi, you can probably remove the WiFi module and add an additional NVME drive. However, the mount point is not adjustable, and appears to be sized for a 2242 model, be aware of that limitation and double-check first before you try. There are RGB lights above and below the memory slots, more next to the CPU socket, and still more of them at the bottom of the motherboard, that are controllable as a single zone. There is an unused USB3.2 header which could be used to add an additional USBC or usb 3.2 slots, which is a surprise. Usually motherboards on prebuilts delete everything that's unused. Most prebuilt PCs have proprietary motherboards, but this one comes very close to standard MATX and if for some reason you were to install it in a different case, you could do so with minimal loss of functionality. __________ The RAM (memory): The memory installed in this system is 2 sticks of 8gb DDR5 by Samsung rated at 4800Mhz totaling 16GB of system RAM, however, due to the motherboard's limitations, it runs at 4400Mhz. The sticks are bare without heat spreaders, but as they're not being overclocked, they don't really need them. __________ The Storage: A Micron 3400 1TB M.2 2280 NVME drive is installed as primary storage. This is where you're going to want to install the applications and games you intend to play. It has read/write speeds of 6.4GB/s and 4.4GB/s as tested by CrystalDiskMark, which matches the speed that it's rated for. A 2TB Toshiba 7200RPM hard disk is installed as secondary storage. Hard disks are slow compared to modern NVME drives, so keep your photos, videos, music collections, documents, etc here. __________ The PSU: The power supply is standard ATX and provides 800w rated at 80+ Gold. It’s manufactured by Lite-On, a company that makes power supplies exclusively for OEMs like Acer. I looked up the independent 80 PLUS testing report and the results were 90% average efficiency with 89% under full load. Few things are worse than trying to replace or upgrade a proprietary power supply, so I appreciate Acer following the ATX standard here as well. __________ The Accessories: The included keyboard and mouse are RGB. The keyboard has three seperate zones that can be customized. While this isn't as nice as per-key RGB lighting, it does allow for some nice custom options including gradients across the zones. Red/Orange/Yellow and Blue/Violet/Purple look especially nice. The mouse features two additional side buttons and an RGB Predator logo and scroll wheel. __________ The Software: One of the most common things with prebuilt PCs, for good or for ill, is preinstalled software. Beyond the standard things that show up on any windows install, you'll find McAfee Antivirus and WebAdvisor, along with three Acer applications. The first is PredatorArc which controls the RGB of the keyboard and mouse. The second, PredatorSense, allows you to adjust the RGB lighting of the motherboard and fans along with speeds of the case and GPU fans. I found that temps were a little high while gaming on the default fan profile (which is very quiet), but the Gaming profile was a little too loud. I adjusted the fans to a nice middle ground that keeps everything cool without the fan noise being a distraction, and it’s nice that you can adjust these on the fly. You can control the RGB of system globally from PredatorSense, including the keyboard and mouse, but you cannot adjust them individually unless you use PredatorArc. There are a variety of different RGB modes and effects to choose from, including various color-cycling modes. Between the two apps, you can set custom color modes for the motherboard, each fan, each keyboard zone, and the mouse individually. I would have appreciated seeing these fully combined into a single app, but that's a minor complaint. The third piece of Acer software is called Care Center. It displays information about your system (like the serial #) lets you do things like check drive and memory health, see your network status details, check for system-specific updates, set which applications start on boot, check for and delete junk files, and defragment your hard disk (nvme drives do not need this). It's a nice, unobtrusive little application with some helpful tools. __________ Gaming Performance: The i7-12700F and RTX 3080 are high-end gaming components, and it shows. I was able to hit framerates of at least 90fps on max settings in every title I tested at QHD resolution (with the exception of Starfield) without any form of upscaling, and well over 120fps in titles with DLSS or FSR. 4K performance is also good if you dial the settings back a bit (or use upscaling). __________ Conclusion: I’ve tested a good number of prebuilt gaming PCs, and Acer’s Predator Orion 5000 is one of the few that I’d be comfortable recommending to friends. It’s a solid performer with some excellent features and a fantastic level of upgradability for those who want the freedom to tinker with their hardware.

For a pre-built desktop I think Acer got some things right and other things leave my head scratching. For a PC that will game using a 12 Gen Intl i7 and a 3080 card means you'll have a decent time gaming. You can play just about any game without too much worry especially at 1440p without issues I think based on my testing. Unboxing was easy and the way they lock the Video card down for shipping means no worry with it getting loose. Overall the Cable Management was well done and nicely done. I like the fact they included 2 3.5" HDD bays and they are both wired up. The computer shipped with one 2TB Drive for slow storage and there is another bay above it and all you'll have to do is slap the drive in, no wiring or cables need to be added. Overall everything fit and was firmly attached and survived shipping without an issue. The Keyboard is typical Office OEM membrane keyboard. Nothing great and recommend using your own. The mouse was a bit better, fit nice and seems to work well and has RGB if your into that. Its nice if you don't have spares, but I'd highly recommend swapping them out for better ones. The case itself is large, but nice. I was worried that the glass front might block air, but they have large channels on the side to allow air to come in. The fans are fairly quiet and do an ok job keeping the air flowing over the parts. The only complaint on the cooling is the choice of cooler for the CPU. Downdraft Slug cooler, bigger then the OEM cooler, but not enough. This was one of the few computers I've been able to thermal throttle when benchmarking. I'd have perferred a double fan tower cooler to help keep the CPU under tjMax and not throttle. While in gaming most likely won't push to that limit, but still wish for a better cooler, to keep fans a bit quieter. The 12700F is a great CPU, but I wish Acer had not chosen the F SKU as having an integrated GPU is handy for troubleshooting, but not a deal breaker. The Acer made 3080 LHR GPU performed well. Just make sure to update the drivers when you get it as they will be definitely a few revs. behind. In fact I forget to upgrade the Drivers and in Speed Way bench run the difference in using recent drivers was a 21% improvement. Overall the parts chosen do a good job and 3dMark has it faster then a Gaming PC 2023. So that is good to know from other devices we are in a good place. The 16GB is a bit on the smaller side these days, esp. if you wanted to stream. One of the first upgrades will be to move to 32GB of RAM to have a more comfortable experince. I do wish Acer used a better Motherboard though. The 2nd NVME slot for a second SSD on the MB, required them to tool the case to have the screw hole to hold it in place. Such an odd choice. But even with that it performed fine. Software wise I wish Acer reduced the extra "added" software including the McAfee Antivirus. However it was easy enough to clear off all th extra unneeded software. Overall you this is a decent performer, just wish for a bit better cooling, but if you want to game this is a solid choice.

Overall an excellent gaming PC. I play mostly steam games and this handles them very well. It's quiet, snappy, and well designed. You can change the color of the LED"s and it has USB-C, which is a plus. The only thing I upgraded was the RAM, and got LED, which luckily still fit with the tight space between the RAM and the CPU fan.
