|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This monitor does what it is suppose to do and it has a few extra specs that beat the other monitors in this price range. You get HD display to surf, watch movies, view pictures. It wakes easy so you can have it on standby so it can always be ready when you need it. I do not plan on moving it much but if I do it will be quick and easy because it’s lightweight. The Acer s271hl is 27” all screen with a thin glossy bezel. Instructions from the included manual should be more simple because. The acer monitor fit my computer and again meets my needs so it deserves a 5 star review. The monitor does not come with an hdmi cable so pick you up one if decide to use the hdmi port. I had an extra laying around so I had everything to get me quickly started. Acer is known for great products so I’m sure I will have this for while before I need to replace this.

Awesome Gaming Monitor
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this on Black Friday for a new PC for the kids. They needed something for elementary school work (3rd and 4th grade) and games. After setting everything up, my first impression is people are writing reviews without ever seeing this monitor in person. You will not see a screen grid of pixels using this. It is simply too big to sit close enough to to see the pixels. At normal viewing distance there is no grid. Maybe with your face on the screen doing professional photo editing and design work, but not for regular use. Using this for web surfing and office tasks it does what it should. Where it really shines is with games. Wow! It is like day and night when you run the standard kids games like Roblox, T.A.B.S., Minecraft, Amazing Frog and Steam. If you need super hi res, yes, you need more than 1080p, but with a GTX 1050 3gb and these games, this monitor is beyond perfect. Also, because it’s only 1080p, you will have text big enough to actually read, which is not happening at 4K. Which is one of the reasons I got this—to keep the kids eyes off the smaller screens like laptops and iPads, because this is better for their eyes. This is a solid 4 Star monitor. Yes, there are better monitors, but this is an all around great 1080p 27” monitor. You do not need more resolution than this for most uses, even the games look great on this. It definitely is a true 4ms screen, if not faster. If you are looking for something to double as a 1080p TV this will work, but not on lower res source material, like 720p, which will be box pixelated, there are other screens that may do better with less res on a 1080p screen. But most monitors aren’t as good as TVs with that. Note: This monitor will do 75hz via HDMI, but the picture looks washed out that way, using a good quality DVI-D cable at 60hz produces much better color.

Great for Main or Secondary Monitor using VGA/DVI
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Out of the box, this monitor looks great and is easy to setup. Note that even though this is an “edgeless” or “zero-frame” monitor, Acer creates a ¼-inch black frame around the edge of the monitor. So the screen extends to the edge but when turned on, there is a black frame created on-screen anyway. You will see this in one of the attached photos below… the screen is on but there still appears to be a quarter-inch border around the content – that’s still screen material. APPEARANCE: • Very sleek and thin. Screen “surface” goes all the way to the edge of the monitor’s top and sides. • Monitor can be angled slightly or straight up and down – HOWEVER, the connecting piece between the base and the monitor itself needs to be removed from the monitor body before adjusting as the metal plate and hinge is very tight and may damage components on the monitor if adjusted while already inserted into the monitor body. • Lit-up power button when in the “on” or “standby” mode. • Power cord has an in-line transformer block. The cord segment from the block to the monitor is very thin which helps with concealment and appearance. PROS: • Great and crystal clear VGA/DVI picture. The 27” screen pops with color and brightness, both of which are adjustable. • Videos as smooth as laptop processor will allow on full screen. • No-glare screen • Monitor offers DVI, VGA, and HDMI inputs • Rubber feet, sturdy CONS: • HDMI picture from HP ENVY PC causes much video loss… black lines are missing, colors are off quite a bit. I was unable to fix via graphics card options or screen resolution troubleshooting. • HDMI picture from a set-top box (I have AT&T U-Verse) provided an ok picture but not as clear and crisp as a regular 1080p TV. I was able to see some minor wavy lines in the picture… the best picture came with VGA/DVI connections via PC. • When providing an HDMI input to the monitor and then using the audio jack on the back of the monitor, the audio is weakened greatly in quality and volume range. You will need to use the main audio source (cable box, PC, etc) instead of using the audio jack on the back of the monitor. You lose a great deal of sound quality using the monitor's audio/headphones jack. • There is no remote, so you will have to use the buttons next to the power button on the underside of the right side of the monitor. It was a little cumbersome at first and hard to navigate, but once you see how to maneuver the menu, you can eventually get everything set like you like. Since this is only done once, this isn’t a huge negative. • It would have been nice to have the picture extend all the way to the edge of the screen instead of creating a black ¼” border on-screen. I’m not sure why that was done when you’d have more real estate the other way… even if by ½ inch total. Overall, if using VGA/DVI, this is a great monitor with a great picture. You may end up avoiding HDMI use, as PC inputs provided a much better experience. I use as a secondary monitor with a DVI cable and audio directly from my PC so my experience has been nothing but superb with this model so far. But work could still be done to improve HDMI and audio shortcomings.

All around performer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer S271HL Gbidx 27" Monitor is a simple budget monitor that has a nice size screen. This monitor has some nice features that will satisfy your average user or gamer. It has a VA panel which helps the colors, especially the blacks look good but also causes the viewing angles to be less that some other panel types. The colors are not punchy but they were good for viewing most content. I set the brightness and contrast both to 80. The brightness was at 100 out of the box. Because of the VA panel viewing angles this monitor is best for someone who will be sitting looking straight at the screen. One nice feature here is it has very small bezels which help make this big screen look even bigger and may help it fit on some of the common hutch type desks. It has a rated 4ms response time so it should be very good at gaming. The monitor itself has three connections, HDMI, DVI and VGA. I don’t know how many people use VGA anymore but it doesn’t hurt to have it available. My monitor only came with a VGA cable so I checked and that was correct on the Best Buy website. VGA cables are usually blue on the end so check your computer. If you only have a white DVI connector or black HDMI connector than you would need to buy a cable to use this monitor that is if you don’t already have one. It uses a small power brick and also supports VESA mounts on the back. The stand is a fixed height but does have a limited range to change the angle forward and back. One thing to note here is there are no onboard speakers. It does have a 3.5mm headphone jack on the back panel and will pass sound through but some onboard speakers would have been a welcome addition. Finally I have to say it took me a few times to figure out the monitors menus but the control was simple once I used it a few times. I was not fond of the bright blue power light in the front and couldn’t find anyway to turn it off. If you looking for a bigger screen for gaming, web browsing or even to do office work this is a good budget option. And it does have a three year parts and labor warranty. Acer makes some of the finest monitors in the world so they are going to be around for a while.

Excellent Monitor for everyday use
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've used this monitor as a second screen for work and occasionally play PS4 games on it. The color is great for both, and the image is sharp and I've never experienced any lag. The monitor has 3 signal inputs (HDMI, VGA, DVI) and 1920 x 1080 HD resolution. The vesa mount doesnt impact any cables. This monitor may not be the greatest for gaming but for daily CAD design, streaming videos, and everyday office use it is a solid choice.

OOH! I like this one
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer S271HL Gbidx 27" Monitor is all that for me. This monitor is beautiful. The colors and blacks look so good and crisp on screen. It doesn't cost much and it fits just about anywhere. I've used mine for gaming and reviews( This review, actually. Among others. Go check em' out). I just added an aux speaker and I'm on my way. I mainly use my Dex station & my Note 8 as my main cpu on it, but I've connected my modem and Switch to it and it runs them without a sweat. The HD quality is lovely. I guess the only problem I have with it is that it doesn't have speakers, but for the price, I'm more than pleased and can afford to go buy speakers. I recommend this to gamers ( casual and hardcore) and anyone looking to pick up a new screen to replace their older monitor. 27 inches is a really nice size. Acer has done a great job with this little guy. I see myself using this for good long time.

Very nice monitor
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am giving this monitor a five star review only because I read the reviews before buying it. It is a very large clear screen, it is a great value, especially since I saved during the Black Friday sale. It does not have speakers included with it or built in. I knew that before I bought it because I had read the other reviews. Be aware of this if you are wanting built-in speakers this does not have them from the factory. I would highly recommend this . Pretty much Plug and Play easy setup very nice monitor for our Construction office.

Great monitor for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used many monitors in the past coming from a Dell 2408wfp ultrasharp than a 2k Korean monitor I bought a LG 4k and than purchased this monitor for a bud. The colors are really crisp and vivid. Got this deal for the pre black Friday and what a steal. The size and 1080p is more than adequate for the average consumer. The monitor base doesn't go up or down just tilts. If you can get this on sale I would not hesitate to get this. The sharpness levels aren't super sharp but for what it is, you can't go wrong. Panel color out of the box is natural and vivid. It's bezels are super thin with only a small black strip on the bottom.

Impossible to calibrate; colors are washed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: -Nice size (27” is the upper limit for 1080p, IMO) text is nice and clear -Looks great with thin bezels and not a large footprint on desk -Great price Cons: -Lack of DisplayPort -Power supply is not built in (power brick instead) -Colors look washed – see explanation below I bought this monitor to hook up to a Surface Book 2 15" that I recently bought. I intended to use it with my docking station to have bigger display for regular office tasks/homework for pharmacy school, along with occasional gaming. I figured the 1080p resolution would allow me to make it a bit easier on the integrated GTX 1060 6GB that is included in the SB2 for gaming. I also purchased a USB-C to HDMI cable to allow me to connect directly to the monitor while also having my charger connected to the Surface port. (The Surface Dock will not provide enough power via the Surface port to allow for charging while gaming. The battery will drain if connected that way). There are a couple things I noticed as soon as I connected the monitor to my SB2 to the monitor. Some of these issues I understand are a result of the SB2 (like not being able to use the NVIDIA Control Panel to adjust the color settings for the monitor) as opposed to the monitor so I'm going to stick to just rating the monitor. The color out of the box seem extremely washed. There is a lack of vibrancy and sufficient settings within the monitor itself to remedy the issue. No matter how much I tinkered with the settings the problem persisted. I tried everything from downloading multiple ICC profiles, to Acer software for monitor calibration, the built-in Windows color calibration, and of course, the OSD settings within the monitor itself. Nothing, and I mean nothing, led to any result that I would consider acceptable. I am in no way a stickler nor do I work with any video or photography programs but after staring at a decent display (SB2 integrated display) this monitor just pales in comparison. I also own a Dell S2716DG which is a 27” 1440p 144Hz G-SYNC monitor. This monitor happens to have a TN panel but I will say that the colors are leaps and bounds better than what is being displayed by this Acer. I know that this monitor has better specs but for those saying that this Acer produces better colors than a TN panel, that is simply not true. As a disclaimer, I was only able to try the monitor while connected via HDMI. The only reason I mention that is that I have run into a color issue with an old Dell monitor some years ago while connected to an integrated GPU (Intel 2500K). For some reason, when I connected that monitor to the same computer motherboard via an DVI or VGA cable, I had way better color output. I believe in the past I read that the Intel drivers for integrated GPUs recognized anything connected via HDMI as a television as opposed to a monitor and therefore switched the color profile accordingly. I have not had the opportunity to try this monitor with any other computer or type of cable since I don’t have any lying around. Bottom Line: If you are looking for a 1080p monitor that looks great on a desk and are upgrading from something smaller/older with not great colors, you might be fine with this monitor. If you are coming from any decent IPS, VA, or TN panel, the color reproduction will be noticeably worse on this Acer. Unfortunately, this monitor will be going back as the color reproduction is just not acceptable in my use case since going from staring at a well-calibrated display in the SB2 to this Acer unit is simply not a pleasant experience. I have included some images below that hopefully demonstrate my description a little better. Note that the task bar at the bottom should be black and the Acer shows this as almost a light gray. Also, the blues look much deeper and vibrant on the SB2 screen as opposed to the Acer. **(Best Buy automatically compresses the original uploads which makes it harder to see but the differences are still clear in my opinion.) I would be willing to post the originals elsewhere and add the link here if someone would like to see them uncompressed. **

Value Priced 27" Monitor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Acer S271HL GBIDX 27" Monitor is a modern, borderless color monitor. It is budget priced & offers value for the money. LIKES: 1- Lightweight, small profile makes it easy to locate in tight places. 2- Blue light on Power Button can be easily switched On / Off by one of the first Menu settings. See blue light ON in attached photos. 3- Very bright LED backlit screen rated at 300 cd/m². Factory set to "Brightness: 100%". Back this down & the contrast improves / colors are less washed out. 4- DVI, VGA, HDMI Inputs. 5- Anti-Glare matte Screen. 6- Energy Star Certified. 7- Anti-slip base stays put on the desk. 8- The borderless screen: "Zero Frame", as Acer calls it, looks great & very modern. 9- Three Year Parts & Labor Warranty. DISLIKES: 1- Extremely tight swivel mechanism. A very hard push is required to tilt the screen - it feels like the screen will break before it tilts because the plastic frame flexes, despite not swiveling as designed. 2- Power supply is external, so you have to deal with a power brick & a cord that plugs in to this monitor. 3- No speakers in this monitor. 4- Motion blur is seen watching a movie from Amazon Fire TV through the HDMI port. This will not affect monitor performance, but I would not recommend it for gamers or for watching video through HDMI. 5- No Webcam onboard. 6- No height adjustment. 7- Colors are muted; not vibrant, even after calibration. See attached photos of a highly detailed photo I captured; one with & one without onboard settings. 8- HDMI Cable is not included; however a VGA cable is included. 9- No remote for monitor adjustments. Onboard settings, accessible by hidden buttons below the monitor, just to the left of the power button. are shown in attached photo. 10- Limited to 1920 x 1080 Resolution. CONCLUSION: This 27" monitor will serve even the brightest office environment well, where the objective is to read documents, email & text. However, due to the referenced limitations, it is not recommended for gaming, movies or photo editing.

Monitor looks good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought and set it up last night to give my kid a bigger screen than her puny little school chromebook to do homework. Huge screen, and much brighter than the chromebook screen. She can put up multiple windows with ease now to write papers. It comes with VGA cord, but has input for HDMI. Don't know how will perform on video, but fine for basic home computer use.

It's big. It's bright. It's a wonderful value!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was extremely impressed with this monitor right out of the box. The display size is perfect for gaming, for work and for keeping multiple screens open. For movies it's like sitting in the front row at the drive-in. And the price made this a certified steal. Added bonus: It was delivered the day after I ordered it. Fantastic!

Great Monitor
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great Monitor for the Price. Has good settings that enabled to do the color adjustments and brightness adjustments. Coming from under inches monitor. It feels enormous. I love it though. Havent tried with High FPS games but when my kids play it ( Cup head and Slime rancher) they seem to enjoy it. Has necessary inputs.

Good monitor but....
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this monitor because I bought an Acer laptop. I was so glad, the first time I unboxed this Acer Monitor. I thought something is wrong with this monitor because when I pressed the volume button it's not functioning. My guess is if there is a volume button that means there is a speaker inside the monitor. I tested on, Windows 7, Windows 10 and Mac Sierra but no sound is coming out from the monitor. So, my emotion is now mixed if should I return this or not. Good thing there's a Headphone input at the back of the monitor. I tested it and there's a sound coming from my Headphone. However, the volume button of the monitor is not functioning and the volume coming from it is low, compared to the volume coming from my laptop. After careful consideration, I decided to keep the monitor instead. It is a pretty big screen, good for my studying and gaming. I can display two browsers at the same time side by side, perfect for my multitasking. I just noticed that this monitor is so bright. I'm having trouble trying to get the right brightness for me. Other than that, this is already a good buy for $119 for a 27 inches monitor. Thanks, Best Buy!
