acer switch one 10 The packaging was super simple. It came with the normal paperwork a small power cord, the tablet and keyboard. The owner cord is an odd l shape but it may be to avoid having a brick. The tablet is lightweight itself however the keyboard is heavy and makes the tablet heavier. The keyboard came with one of the rubber feet missing and makes the keyboard wangle when it sits down. When powering on it comes with a full battery. The display has a nice IPS touchscreen panel and has really great viewing angles. The cloud them self are a little washed out. The tablet came with a free 30 day mcafee subscription and needed an email to send the keycard and to create a password. The keyboard and mouse touchpad kept becoming unresponsive. I removed it and took some fuzz off that did not correct the issue a quick restart fixes it for a time then it does it again The response is a bit sluggish on selecting or trying to open items. Watching Netflix and Hulu are super sharp on the 1280 x 800 ips display however the audio is a 5 out of 10. The speakers are NOT positioned in a good place. They are the Lower bottom corners of the back of the tablet. If you are holding the tablet or if it's laying in your lap you are covering up the speaker and it's muffled. Uncovered the sound is still blocked because the sound is traveling away from you instead of towards you or out to the left or right. The sound comes out as far away and hard to hear. This would be best to use with headphones, Bluetooth or mini USB speakers. The device comes with one USB port on the keyboard, micro USB and micro hdmi headphone power and it looks like a minisd slot. The tablet is good for occasional use or email social media watching shows with headphones. Keyboard not so much. The freezing and not working is a pain when trying to do something. Probably best for kids.

Can't Recommend Due to Network & Speaker Problems

As a member of Best Buy’s Tech Insider Network I received an Acer Switch One 10 a couple of weeks ago to review. After spending a fair amount of time with it, I can say the network and sound problems I encountered outweigh the tablet’s good points. At first, I thought I could weakly recommend it with the caveat that the buyer understands that this entry-level tablet is not going to look, feel, run, and sound like a thousand dollar tablet. But in the end I can’t recommend it at all for the following two reasons: From the very beginning I noticed this Acer tablet seemed slow on the Internet (NOTE: My home LAN uses a new 802.11ac router and I have Xfinity 105 Mbps Internet service). So I ran a bunch of speed tests and I was disappointed to find that the average speedtest.net results for this Acer tablet were 21 Mbps download, 17 Mbps upload. While on the same speedtest.net server several of my other six 802.11n and 802.11ac wireless tablets/laptops were all in the area of: 120 Mbps download, 23 Mbps upload. Even a five year old 4th generation iPad had a download speed of 77 Mbps. All are nearly as fast as my hardwired desktop PC which consistently speed tests at 126 Mbps download. With the Acer tablet's network adapter only running at 16% of the available speed I knew something was amiss and I tried everything I could think of to fix the speed problem. I made sure all the Windows 10 updates were finished, but the speed test results were still the same: 21 Mbps download, 17 Mbps upload. Then I thought maybe the McAfee security products might be slowing the tablet down. After I uninstalled them and rebooted, the speed test results improved slightly to: 25 Mbps download, 22 Mbps upload. Next, I ran a well-known and respected computer optimizer program that I’ve relied on for years. And even though it made a few tweaks to optimize the Acer tablet’s Internet settings, the speed test results were still basically unchanged: 24 Mbps download, 24 Mbps upload. So I checked for the most current version of the 32-bit driver for the Realtek RTL8723BS Wireless LAN 802.11n SDIO Network Adapter and found it was version 3008.33.430.2016. The driver update feature in the tablet’s network adapter properties stated that this is the best version and that the device was working properly. So for a final test I plugged my 802.11ac USB 3.0 Network Adapter into the tablet’s USB port, turned it on and turned the internal Realtek adapter off. I ran the same speed tests and got these results: 77 Mbps download, 24 Mbps upload. The download speed had tripled by using a different network adapter! So I can only conclude that the Realtek network adapter is degraded in some way or Acer has a network adapter setting wrong. The other major problem I encountered was the Acer Switch One 10 internal speakers are very, very, very poor. To make sure the woefully inferior sound was the fault of the speakers and not the sound system itself, I paired the Acer tablet to a Bluetooth speaker and it sounded just fine. So if you want to listen to music from this tablet you will definitely need to use an external wired or Bluetooth speaker. Truth is I wouldn’t even want to listen to a newscast on those internal speakers. They’re that bad. Both of these problems can be worked around by using an external speaker and an external network adapter. But you shouldn’t have to do that just to bring a brand new tablet up to par.

The Acer Switch is a great theory that lacks a little on the execution. I liked the fact that it comes with Windows 10 so the apps are compatible with my home and office computers, which I hoped would make it easy to switch between machines during a project. However, the pre-loaded software is bloated and makes the entire machine sluggish. Deleting some of the unnecessary ones has helped some, but the entire OS just feels too heavy. The battery life is just ok; I never leave home without a power supply. I have had a few minor issues with internet and Bluetooth disconnections which have only been a minor annoyance at this point but based on other reviews I am hoping they don't get worse. Unfortunately, this machine hasn't lived up to my (perhaps high) expectations and has basically been relegated to a web browser and email checker. Oh, and this unit is very top heavy and wants to tip over if you put it on anything other than a really steady and level surface; I've had it almost tumble out of my hands on more than one occasion while walking from room to room. All in all, if I had it to do over again, I'd pony up and buy a higher quality machine.

AcerSwitchOne10 is a good hybrid for the money. The hinge design and the magnetic clips is fantastic. The lack of internal memory is a bit concerning and the performance will keep you from working with many of the productivity suites without a bit of hesitation. Colors are good and the ability to do most of your work in the cloud keeps the lack of internal memory not as important as it once was in the past.

This tablet + keyboard has potential, but problems. The 2GB of memory and slow read/write speeds really limit it. Having the Firefox browser (preinstalled) open with 3 tabs, causes a sever slow down. Almost all memory was consumed. Then, attempting to download a large file across the network caused massive slow downs on the machine. Windows 10 in table mode is workable, but not all apps work well with touch, and the on screen keyboard does not always show up. In addition, the keyboard dock is unpredictable. At first, it didn't seem to work at all. After chatting with Acer support, they suggested I return it for a refund. Then, the keyboard started working, stopped, and hasn't worked since. I would recommend a higher spec model, or waiting to see if bios or drive updates can make this more usable.

I am writing this review using the Acer Switch One 10. It is a functional computer. The keyboard and screen separate. The keyboard is to lite for the computer and feels cheaply made. There is one USB port on the keyboard. If you rotate the screen to far on the keyboard it will tip over. You can remove the pc from the keyboard and flip it around to make it a tablet that can stand in a tent position which is great for viewing pictures or watching movies. The computer feels well made however the unit I received has a screen problem. There are several green lines crossing it. That being said this computer is a good unit and great for beginners and non power users.

    Good travel tablet/laptop

I wanted an inexpensive combo laptop/reader to take on trips. This fills the bill perfectly. As I am a very novice user, I can't speak to (or compare) features or the product's technical aspects.. All I can vouch for is low price & great functionality for what I need it for,,,i.e., as a "backup" device when traveling. Being inexpensive I don't fear terribly about losing it as I do for my more expensive devices (Dell Elitebook laptop and my Samsung tablet/reader). Its small size is great for traveling. Would recommend the Switch to anyone needing a backup, or secondary, laptop or reader.

I've had it for about seven months now. For 200 dollars you won't find a better Windows device. It's basically a laptop that turns into a tablet if you want. It runs well for everyday tasks. My only complaint with it Windows Updates. You will want to shut those off as they mess with it.

    Practically unusable

I bought this 2-in-1 with high hopes 5 days ago and I'm returning it today... I figured at such a low price this tablet would have some issues, and I was willing to suffer through quite a bit, but it's hard to find anything redeemable about this product. I purchased this tablet with the intention of updating/scrolling through social media, writing my own posts, watching music videos... this tablet disappointed me at every turn. The first thing I noticed as I started it up out of the box was that it was EXTREMELY slow. I excused the speed at first, thinking that since it was brand new maybe the initial setup was an exception. I was quickly proven wrong. After the initial startup I tried to open the default browser (Microsoft Edge) without success. The web page wouldn't load, it just kept saying "securing connection" in the left hand corner. Then I tried Firefox (preinstalled) and was also unsuccessful. In frustration I decided to search for google and wait out the loading time and install Google Chrome (took over 5 minutes just to load google's homepage and the page to download chrome), but quickly after installing that browser and making it my default I realized it was simply an issue with the computer itself... not any sort of connection. It took me 3 attempts to successfully download Chrome and I felt like pulling my hair out when it didn't run any smoother. When opening any sort of browser I immediately receive an error saying that the startup page cannot be loaded. If I ignore this and type in a website it will sometimes load after a full minute or so, but often times i will receive another error saying that the connection cannot be made at all. If the page does load, each page after that takes another couple minutes to load (IF AT ALL) making it impossible to see any feeds on social media. A couple times I got about 3 pages into browsing when suddenly the connection was lost and nothing would load anymore. And forget about live feeds- it takes minutes to refresh IF anything loads. When I was fortunate enough to get the pages to load I tried typing and listening to music a bit... both proved to be equally frustrating experiences. The tablet itself is so much heavier than the keyboard that it's hard to keep the computer upright. The weight makes the entire system fall backwards constantly. Whether you're touching the screen or using the keyboard, typing will cause the tablet to rock and fall backwards. I kind of expected this based on the price and weight of the product, but it makes it almost impossible to keep upright without constantly holding it down. And another kicker- the internal speakers are located on the back of the tablet. Any time I had the tablet sitting on my bed and it rocked over the sound was blocked. Extremely inconvenient when you need to keep the sound very low because the speakers are so low quality. When the volume is turned up high on the speakers it hurts your ears because the noise is so hollow and sharp, and when the volume is turned down low you not only struggle to hear clearly but will probably miss half of what you're trying to listen to anyways because the tablet keeps falling in its back. Other than these major drawbacks it's an okay tablet, the quality is much like what I expected. The display is okay when the brightness isn't at it's fullest. When it is, it's very rough on your eyes. The touch screen and keyboard function relatively well despite the keyboard being very cheap and light feeling... when typing on the keyboard I would often miss characters because the keys are so light it's almost hard to press them. The materials used for making the tablet itself (not the keyboard) don't seem cheap, I was pleased with the physical feel and touch configuration of the tablet. Unfortunately the apps are just as slow to open as the webpages are... after pressing on one it takes about 10 seconds just for the app to appear on the screen and start opening. Sometimes they fail to open at all and you have to try and open them multiple times before they load. This entire system is nothing more but a pretty decent touchscreen. Trying to load any web pages or launch any apps takes minutes upon minutes, if it loads at all.
