Buyer beware. Do not purchase this product if you're looking for a non-subscription software. BestBuy doesn't tell you it requires a subscription and will not allow a refund or exchange once you've purchased and redeemed it. You will get launched into the Adobe website where you're now told it requires a subscription for installation,
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Not sure what that only other person’s review means. Once you purchase this, you own the license forever. There is no further “subscription” needed. Adobe does offer a cloud version of this software where you can opt to pay monthly instead of this $238 once. The main advantage to the “cloud subscription” version, is you will always get the updates when they come out (as long as you pay every month). This version will always be yours, whereas someone who stops paying monthly on the “cloud version” will no longer have access to the software until they subscribe by paying monthly again. Now that I’ve hopefully cleared any confusion up there, Adobe is a state of the art software company for creatives and visual art, electronic art, etc. and a complete necessity for todays graphic artists and designers, web designers, etc. Illustrator is one of many programs they offer, and is probably rated in the top 3, with photoshop and acrobat (which doesnt really fall into the same category- its for PDFs) but they all integrate well together. Illustrator is essential for creating logos, trademarks, designing letterheads, and non-photo art. Its a technology-loving artist’s dream software and i cannot wait to see how it works with iPad now that they’ve integrated apps! When i used it years ago apple hadnt created the iphone yet, let alone the ipad. Anyway this would be great to have if you want to use professional art design software at home, but maybe not and not if you work in the ever evolving job market of graphic design. Thats when you may need to opt for the monthly subscription so you can always stay up to date. Its hard to imagine graphic technology advancing much beyond what we have today, and therefore its safe to say this version will be well worth the price over lifetime for anyone not professionally desiging things daily for their paycheck!
