Familiar Elements with Useful New Features

Photoshop has been my favorite photo editing software for decades now. Each year, Elements is updated with new tools and features, and this year's update is spectacular indeed. There is more use of Artificial Intelligence in many of the new tools, and this affords the user almost unlimited creativity in image manipulation. I particularly appreciate the power of "brushing out" extraneous features in an otherwise good snapshot. AI is able to create images similar to the rest of the background to fill in what was removed- this works wonderfully well. Be warned, however, that the speed of these edits will depend on the specifications of your computer. I also use the blur filter feature that allows one to choose a single focal point, and then create an artificial bokeh in the rest of the image. This emulates what would otherwise only be possible with advanced camera equipment. Combining parts of multiple photos has been simplified as well. Even though this is something that Photoshop has been able to do for some time, the process is so fast and easy that I will be making use of this function more often. I do not use the video editing features, so that I cannot comment on these here. However, as an amateur still photography hobbyist, I am thrilled to be able to expand my creativity with this year's edition of Photoshop Elements.

Photoshop Elements 2025 sets the Standard

This version of Photoshop Elements is the one to have if you use a Mac. The ability to catalog and control photos with slideshows, color corrections and easy titling of photos is outstanding and makes it all simple and straightforward. Got stuck or can't figure out what to do? Quick links built into the program give quick tutorials and examples. Once you've installed the program, it loads an organizer to get all your existing photos in order. The Elements portion shows what you're doing in real time, and takes full advantage of the Apple M3 processor. The amount of time spend watching the spinning ball is minimal at best. Guided edits in the program assist in making videos pop and clarifies things. The highlight reel and ability to animate overlays and add titles will absolutely change the way I produce family videos and photos. Photoshop Elements also has a companion app for your mobile phone or devices that enables editing and proofing on the go. Are there more powerful programs out there? Yes, but no where near this price. Adobe has made this version almost as foolproof and user friendly as possible. This really sets the standard for photo and video editing!

This review is for Adobe Photoshop Elements 2025. Photoshop Elements has been my go to software for years for all my photo editing needs. And it just keeps getting better and better. This is a 3 year term license deal, So you pay one price to use this for 3 years. I find it easy to easy use and has great step by step tutorials to help you with any editing you may want to do. It has three main modes quick, guided, and advanced. Enter quick mode and you can easily do things like remove an unwanted object, whiten teeth or open someones eyes. And thanks to the help from AI you can do all this quick and easliy. Step up to guidied mode and it will walk you through a load of options from things like just adding text to a photo. Or maybe you want to crop a piture, correct skin tone, move an object or totally remove someone or thing. All these things can be accomplished by anyone. And after you get comfortable with all these steps you can jump up to the advanced mode and go at it on your own. You can also do things like make greeting cards for the holidays or this is a big one for us having 3 small kids. You can make unique birthday invtations and print them off at home.

If you have Photoshop Elements 15 or earlier, it's time to upgrade! So many new features have been added in the last 6 versions. Plus, the program is now designed for 64-bit systems and make better use of your RAM. In Elements 2023, Adobe introduced Moving Elements, a feature that will allow you to bring a touch of movie magic to any photo. Select the area to animate, choose the direction, adjust the speed, and then save your photo as an MP4 or GIF to share on social. In 2025, there were even more improvements with audio added to moving photos. You can create video slideshows in Photoshop Elements, and this year several new animated slideshow styles to choose from in Photoshop Elements. If you often make slideshows, this is the year to upgrade. After I had Elements import a couple hundred photos and video clips, the Home screen showed me more than a dozen Auto Creations it had produced from my content in the Home window. From photos shot around the same area and time, it produced pleasant collages, which benefited from a bit of editing and photo swapping. The feature also created several slideshows of varying interest from my test media, with effective transitions and backgrounds. Overall Adobe has nailed it again. The new features may not be needed if you have a newer version, but they are a great addition to an already great editing software.

Stimulates Your Creativity, It’s Like Magic To Use

Adobe Photoshop Elements 2025 is a lite version of the much more expensive Photoshop program aimed at home users and those new to photo editing. Enhancing the color, contrast, tones, cropping photos is naturally present. There are many artistic features available as well, different edges, color filters, special lighting and cropping effects, much more. There are AI enhanced features to help with some tasks. A popular effect is making a photo B&W except for one object to give a pop of color and draw attention to it. Easy to do here. Another useful and popular edit is removing a person or other object from a picture. I’m amazed how it blends and fills in the removed objects space so well. Or change the background entirely. Parents will love an edit where you can “open” your child’s closed eyes. Pretty amazing and so far ahead of apps just a few years old, much less the early photo editing apps of 20 years ago when I first started photo work. A few hundred years ago you’d surely be tried as a witch for using such magical tricks. The interface is laid out logically, but with so many options it can be overwhelming at first. There is a learning curve as you take on more advanced tasks. Plan on speeding some time to learn the program and doing allot of trial and error to get top results on challenging pictures. To really test this app out, I used a 50-year-old color photo, creased, and faded by time as a torture test. The Guided Edits and Quick Fixes available helped me get this portrait 70% better. The next 15% was allot of trial and error of many different features that took allot of time to learn. While the end result was not 100% perfect, it was far better than I was able to do so far with other lesser programs. Some creased, faded, and dirty areas were handled well, other areas of this damaged photo seem beyond what can be done in Elements with my current skill level. But this exercise did help me learn the program far better than doing simple edits and flourishes would have. If you have a photo that needs so much work it seems hopeless, do try to repair/improve it. It’s worth it as a skill development exercise even if the end result what you hoped for. And you may just the results you hoped for or close to it. Although Elements leans into some advanced heavy-duty repair and editing as I did, fixing over/under exposed pictures, cleaning up small blemishes, adding fun special effects and borders is where Elements shine. At first, I was a bit bothered with this purchase now only being good for 3 years instead of forever. But I am so deeply impressed how far this program has improved since the last version I used 3-4 years ago, that I realized I was cheating myself trying to stick with an older and more limited program. Computer hardware and software keep advancing and 3 years seems like a good interval to upgrade the toolset to get better results faster. With AI coming on strong, the next worthwhile upgrade may come even sooner than I expect. I’m looking forward to seeing what next version brings.

    Slow, clunky and gimmicky

I’ve been a long time user of Lightroom, still using an older version (3.6). I’m not a pro photographer, just a hobbyist so I figured I’d update to the newest Elements and try some new features like the AI edits. The install in general took a while, so be it. When the install was done I went right to opening a .raw file and realized I had to download a plugin for it. That in itself should tell you this product is designed for a basic beginner since .raw file support isn’t even included in the default install. I wanted to try this software package without reading any documentation or watching any tutorials. I jumped right into a quick edit, and planned to straighten my image first, only to find no tool for that. I had to go into the “guided” section to get the rotate/straighten tool. Overall there is a bit of a learning curve for the product, and I’ve found the interface to be very clunky. I would split the screen horizontally so I can see before and after as I’m editing, and as I click through edit options it will default back to ‘after only’. Very frustrating trying to actually get a work flow going. The only option/thing I tried in this product that actually impressed me is the ‘magic erasure’. Everything else was clunky, gimmicky and frustrating. I thought I’d try to put the app on my android phone, thinking I could use Elements and the organizer to get an easy workflow right from phone camera, to laptop for editing, well, a Samsung Galaxy S9+ (which I know is old, but not that old) isn’t supported for the app. To top off my overall experience, the software ran slow and laggy even on my new ultra9 laptop with 32gb of ram and rtx4080 graphics. I think I’ll just stick to my old Lightroom, and maybe use elements for the magic eraser tool when needed. Maybe this product would work for someone new to photo editing but for me it’s a no-go.

    Features, Now With a Subscription

Adobe Photoshop Elements has long been the tool of choice for those looking to get into Adobe's industry standard ecosystem of editing tools without the need for the full suite of CS tools, and likely more importantly for many, without having to pay for the recurring subscription for those tools. While the latest iteration of PS Elements is functionally a great product, Adobe's decision to attach a subscription service to it will likely make it a non-starter for many. The new features here are frankly very good. Notably, the AI assisted Remove Tool is accessible here, allowing you remove unwanted objects from images. I've long had access to a similar feature on my Google Pixel phone, and for the most part, Adobe's implementation works well. To be honest, it's downright easier to just use my phone when the scenario calls for it, but it's nice to have none the less. The other big feature here is the photo combine feature. This again is apparently AI assisted (and is also something that's been available on Pixel phones for a while) but it's been working pretty well for me. Juxtaposing a part of a photo onto another photo isn't something I do often, but it'll be nice to have the ability when I do need it. Performance has been pretty solid for me. I'm running a Windows 10 computer with an AMD 5900x and an Nvidia 3080. Unlike some past iterations of this, I've not run into many performance hiccups, everything seeming to be pretty reliable. Your mileage may vary, as always, depending on your specific editing rig. Overall, I personally can't get past the fact that they've attached a subscription model to Elements for 2025. The only bright side here is that you'll get 3 years of access, which isn't nothing, but honestly, I feel they've missed the mark on this by adding a subscription. It seems to be in line with Adobe's overall, vast strategy to keep people invested in their ecosystem, and frankly, I'm not on board given the plethora of alternatives on the market in late 2024 (paid and free alike, AI assisted or not).

Power and ease, but now for a limited time

I have a love/hate relationship with photo editing. I have thousands and thousands of photos, most of which would benefit from editing to improve them. I love the results achieved by making good edits, but I don’t love the effort it takes effort to learn how to do that. Adobe has been the king of the hill for many years, but its full-featured tools can be more than necessary for casual users, which is where Elements comes in. I’ve been in the habit of getting the new version of Elements every other year, and that pattern holds true this year as well. One of my goals in this review is to highlight the new features added since the 2023 version. Here’s a list of what’s new since 2023: • Simply brush to remove objects • Add realistic depth of field with precise control • Change the color of any object • Create motion effects with four new one-click Quick Actions • Match color and tone with one click • Select a sky or background with one click • Seamlessly combine multiple photos • Web app and mobile companion app (??) • 3-year subscription model One of the things that makes Photoshop Elements so appealing is its mix of power and convenience. Unless you’re trying to do some of the more esoteric professional functions, it’s likely that you’ll be satisfied with the powerful features included in Photoshop Elements. Layers, masks, filters, noise reduction and so much more are available in Elements. Also available are many powerful and easy guided edits that harness some of that power without making you learn all the intricacies required. Here are my experiences with some of the new ones: Brush to remove objects – a coveted feature on other platforms, this one comes to Elements for 2025. The idea is simple: use a brush to “paint” the object you want to remove, then Elements uses AI to make it disappear. For objects that are fairly set apart and which have clear background elements around them, this works very well. For more complicated compositions, the results can be a little more iffy. I did learn that choosing a good brush size makes a difference, and the AI is pretty impressive in how it interpolates background elements to fill in the area occupied by the object you’re removing. If the automatic removal isn’t perfect, you can revert to the old-fashioned clone stamp tool to clean it up further. Add realistic depth of field with precise control – this is an easy way to blur out the background to focus on the object(s) in the foreground. You can choose either simple mode (let PS decide what to blur) or custom mode. In custom mode, using the “magic” selection tool, simply select the object you want to stay in focus, then click the blur button to make everything else go out of focus. Simple mode is a little indiscriminate, but custom mode does a pretty good job. Change the color of any object – if you’ve ever wanted to simply change the color of an object, this is the tool for you. Want to make that purple flower red? Just auto-select it, chose red for your new color, and click ok. Your purple flower is now red, but you’ll need to change your selection if you don’t want everything inside the selection outline to be included. This is a nice shortcut from doing it all yourself. Select a sky or background with one click – PS 2025 makes it easy to select the sky so that you can substitute another background or change its color. There’s also a guided edit designed specifically to replace the sky. Either way, this is a great way to brighten up those outdoor shots taken on a hazy or extra bright day. It was easy to replace the sky with something more colorful, but watch out for other elements in the photo that are the same color, as those get replaced as well. To be honest, I was able to do most of this stuff in the 2023 version as well, even if it did sometimes take a few more clicks. In fact, an effect found in the 2023 version, tilt-shift, is no longer available in the 2025 version. This effect made your photo look like a miniature without requiring a tilt-shift lens. I’m sure there’s a reason this was removed, but I couldn’t find it. There’s a new and improved (?) raw editor this year, but one of the biggest changes can’t be found in the software. New for 2025, Elements is no longer available as a one-time perpetual license. Instead, it is now a 3-year license. Adobe touts this as a “one-time” purchase, but I’m not sure what they want to convey with that statement. Perhaps they’re contrasting that with paying for the license every year. In that case, perhaps we should divide the purchase price by 3 and consider that the true cost of using the software. Nonetheless, you won’t be able to edit photos after the license expires. Is this a good or bad thing? In my opinion, it’s bad as it removes the last available option from Adobe for a tool that I upgrade when I deem it necessary. This will undoubtedly push some to their competitors’ offerings. Ultimately, though, Photoshop Elements is still the best available mix of power and convenience. Competitors may be able to match the ability to do complex edits, but few (if any) of their competitors make the complex easy, as Elements does with its guided edits. There are no major new features to be found here, as the 2025 version is again an incremental improvement. If you have a version from the last year or two, I’d say sit this one out. If you’re purchasing photo editing software for the first time, Elements is still a good value, even as a new addition to the ranks of subscription software. If you’re truly opposed to subscriptions, there are alternatives, but be prepared to spend some time learning to use them.

I've had this program for a couple weeks and it's been great. It really does a good job at editing pictures and is fairly intuitive. I had to watch a couple of the videos on Adobe's site to perfect a couple things but once I saw their explainers it was very straightforward. The biggest thing I am guessing will be used is removing items from pictures. I've found the program does a great job on it's own if the object is separate from things you want to leave. If the item is touching or overlapping other things it's more iffy how well it will blend the picture back together. If the background is a random image like wild grass or trees you'll never even know it was there to start with. If it's more manicured or a recognizable object you might be able to see it's been seamed back together if you look closely. The 'basic' features like sharpening, color correction, red eye, etc all work exactly how you would want. They are easy to use and fix any problem areas easily. I think I will like the 3 year subscription system. It's a good price and after a few years I won't mind re-upping to the new problem with all the new features. Overall if you want to be able to edit your pictures quickly and easily I would highly recommend this program.

I've reviewed Adobe Photoshop Elements in previous years and I'm back to do it again because there is no other photo editing software or application I'd rather use. Each 5 star review is accompanied with new and useful and fun features that weren't previously available and others that have been greatly improved upon. Some of my favorite features involve the guided step by step tutorials provided by Adobe Photoshop Elements. Whether you want to more subltly or professionally modify brightness and contrast, or remove specific items from your photos, the guided instructions make it extremely simple. Another one of the features I find really fun and useful, especially for my social media posts, is the moving objects enhancements. They really add a lot of life to the photographs. One of the things I found most useful amongst the hundreds and hundreds of menu options was how easy it was to click on a hyperlinked help topic and the taken to useful, informational and instructional text about the filter/feature/action in question. Bottom line is that Adobe Photoshop Elements can make the most novice photographer seem like a professional, regardless of the genre.

    Manual But Not Automatic

Adobe Photoshop Elements have a ton of features for adjusting your images the way you want them to look. Features like crop, rotate, resize are all standard and work as expected. There are a ton of image repair tools to make the image look better or just change the way it looks. In manual mode, changing the image works as expected. As an aside, I was not able to get sharpen to really do anything, but perhaps you need a very blurry image to see any change. All manual correction features have a corresponding autocorrect. This is where things go badly. After trying them all, I found that none of them really make the photo look better, and in most cases, make it look worse, particularly with any of the color correction features. If you want to correct anything, assume you will need to do it manually which does do a decent job of correcting, provided you know how to do it. It has features like brushes for drawing and adding text. These work as expected and like other similar software. There are some things that it does very well. The selection tool allows you to manually select areas to edit, but it has an auto select tool for subject, background, and sky. Out of all the photos I tried, it did these correctly every time. I tried using humans and dogs as the subject and again, it always got it right. The removal tool worked amazingly well and only had problems when the photo was overly complicated, such as a large quantity of objects in a small spot. This is definitely a feature that can be used. Just about every correction tool has a preview associated with it. Hover over the change or the number of alterations you want and it either previews on the actual image or has a thumbnail that you can preview the change in. This is great if you are not sure how much of a correction you want. There is an undo feature if you do make a change that you decide you don’t want. The undo keeps a history of changes, so you are not just limited to the last one made. There are guided changes that are offered that allow you to bring up the associated tool and settings for it, but I didn’t find that it offered anything that the manual tools from the menu offered. In the advanced mode, all I noticed was that it put more of the tools and toolbar buttons and not accessed solely from the menu. Again, this didn’t really offer anything you couldn’t already do in the quick mode. Overall, the interface is laid out well and it offers a ton of tools to correct your photos, probably more than other similar editors. The manual corrections work well provided you know what you are doing, but the auto corrections do not and generally make the photo look worse, or more artsy and less realistic, if that is the look you are going for. This is a good tool to use if you know how to manually make corrections but don’t expect to load an image and have it magically make it look better.

I think it is great. Same Photoshop with new features. I can not complain. It now has AI integrated as a helper. It is good for being new and I say it is safe to assume the AI helper will only get better and better as the model improves with time. As a newer user to Photoshop the AI assistant has been very helpful in guiding me in how to use features I had not used before. Rather than me spending time looking up tutorials it does a good job showing me how to edit or providing me with the edit I ask for. I have been using it to create announcements or posters for events. I really am enjoying the Web app that is also provided. This allows me to be able to do things with less powerful Hardware like a chromebook or cheap windows laptop if I need to do something while on the go. the 59 step by step guide on edits was also very helpful on learning how to get the most out of adobe photoshop. I would recommend this product. This is great to use if you need to take a power point, webpage, or advertisement to the next level.

I am very excited to get Photoshop Elements 2025 mainly because I wanted to use the AI removal tool to drastically improve my process flow time in editing my vacation photos. We all know that it is not possible to wait for the scenery to be cleared of other tourist before taking a snapshot of your party. To use the AI Remove tool, under Guided tab, select object removal or under Advanced tab, under Enhance, select Remove tool. Then you just paint on the items you want to remove. It does a very good job and speed up my photo editing tremendously. The next tool I am excited about is the AI Depth blur, we now all only take cellphone to be our primary camera and this tool will make photo taken using cellphone look like from a SLR or mirrorless camera. The tool can be found in AI Edits under Quick Actions in Quick tab. Or in Guided tab, select Special Edits and Depth of Field. Using Quick Actions is easier, it applied background blur and using AI to select the subject to be in focus automatically, then you can fine tune by changing the focal point if the automatically selected one is not your subject but you select it on the thumbnail not on the actual image itself. Next, you adjust the focal range, this will change amount of area with sharp focus and makes the rest blur, it is like changing the camera lens aperture. Next you adjust the blur strength. If you use the tools under Guided tab, you have to use the Quick Selection Tool to select your subject to be in focus and not using AI. New with this version but I am not using are color changing tool under the Enhance menu, more textures for Quick Texture, Quick Add Motion and Combine photos. For color change tool, to have good result, it is all about selecting the area you want to change. Quick texture just add texture on top of my image. Add Motion is just for fun like Sparkles Overlays, Zoom in-out etc. Zoom in-out is pretty fun. Combine photos seamlessly combine photos, shows 2 images in its own layers. Then you can adjust the position and size of each image. Then remove background of one of the images and combine both images. Next you can adjust the tone to match both images using match tone button. I find that Photoshop Elements is getting more powerful but I hope it will include more AI tools like text to image or text to edit etc. Also the tools are all over the place and seems not well organized, it will be better to have all tools under the Guided tab and then provide info on where to find the tools if the user graduated from using the Guided help. Like the AI Depth blur and color changing tool should be in the Guided tab. The Depth of Field should say it is not the new AI tool. There is a time limit of 3 years for this so I am only giving this version 3 stars.
