Premiere Elements 2018 by Adobe is their latest release and upgrade to the 2015 version of the same name. This program provides a fairly simple to use interface for most users to begin editing their photos into videos or trim their cell phone videos into manageable clips for YouTube, Facebook, or other Website and Social Media sites. Other types of video editing available. For basic or entry-level video editing, this program may be a bit frustrating to understand at first, but this could be said with all video editing software. This software is perfect for the intermediate user or casual home editor who wants to share with family and friends or just cherish memories. PROS - Adobe Quality - Step-by-step guide to video creation - Render videos into a multitude of formats - Flexible format import allows for a wide variety of file types to be used with this program - Quick and easy install CONS - May not be for entry-level editors based on price and user interface - Large HD space required for install + additional downloads over internet for full product

This is by far the best video editor I’ve worked with. There are 3 main editing options that should satisfy just about every level of experience. If you’re a newbie to editing, Adobe provides very good tutorials to help you become proficient. The organizer tool will get you started by gathering all your media files for quick viewing. There are also prompts to assist from beginning to end depending on the style of project you have going. You can make home movies, video collages and very good quality still photos from any video. You can add narration, video effects, transitions, make color corrections and lots more. If you’re experienced, you’ll appreciate the very technical options & tools available. This is a great value for the price. I would definitely recommend for home or light commercial users.

I had the chance to use the newest Premiere Elements 2018. I'm very much versed in the Adobe video editing software. I've been using Cloud version of the Premiere but I found Premiere Elements 2018 very easy, useful prompts, and informative. Even though, I've used Adobe Premiere in the past, the element 2018 version taught me some features I didn't even think of using. Premiere Element first starts off letting select your level of familiarity of video editing, 3 levels Guided (for people starting in video editing) Quick, and Expert. I didn't use much of the Guided since it has prompts to help you if you don't know what you're doing. Think of it as training wheels, you know where you want to go with the video but need help getting there. There are a lot of great tutorials that really makings you feel comfortable quickly with video editing. Premiere Element 2018 is packed with features and creative ideas for people wanting to get into editing. Even have the ability to create simple FB videos and instagram (boomerang) style animations. As an intermediate user, I really like being able to have the Premiere doing the work for me. SO MUCH EASIER!!!! In conclusion, I'd highly recommend you getting this if you're new to intermediate level of video editing skills.

I record a ton of videos of my family, but never did any editing to them because I thought that the video editing process was too time consuming and complex to learn and apply. However, I was amazed to discover how easy and simple video editing can be with the Adobe Premiere Elements 2018. I have never touched a video editing software before using Premiere Elements, but within half an hour's time, I was editing my family videos with such ease that I wished I had known about the software years before. For a newbie like myself, Premiere Elements offers guided step-by-step tutorials on how to edit video clips, create transitions, add text, add music, and perform a number of video adjustments. In no time, I was editing like a pro, with high quality and polished looking video results. And whenever I had a question on how to use a function, I simply went back to the guided tutorial or used the Help menu. Keep in mind, however, that Premiere Elements is not geared only towards the newbie crowd like myself. For those who are more familiar with video editing, Premiere Elements offers an Expert editing workspace. It is truly an awesome video editing software that is enjoyable, fun, quick, and easy to use with professional looking results. I highly recommend it!

I do quite a bit of hobby video editing for friends, family, and church and have come to depend pretty heavily on Adobe Premiere Elements for the task. If you’ve used a previous version you’ll feel quickly at home as the interface is largely unchanged and familiar. One of my favorite features when trying to learn something new is the “Guided Edits”. They walk you step-by-step through editing features, both old and new, like Motion Titles (one of my favorites), Bounceback, etc. Some are easy and others still take some time and maybe several repeats of the Guided Edit to master. Overall the Guided Edits work very well though and I recommend both new and experienced Premiere Elements users to take advantage of them to expand your editing horizons. One aspect of Premiere Elements (and even their higher-end Premiere Pro) that is still sketchy is their support for Variable Frame Rate (VFR) video (Not variable bit rate, that’s something else entirely.). Adobe is not alone in this regard, but VFR footage (common from phones and other consumer grade video sources) is notorious for being able to playback fine, but then experiences audio/video sync issues when loaded into an editor like Premiere Elements. Your mileage may vary -- sometimes it’ll work great and other times the a/v sync becomes bad quite quickly. For most short videos of just a minute or two you may not even notice, but the longer your VFR videos are the more likely you are to hit this obstacle. The most common workaround is to use a different video product (Handbrake for example) to convert the video file to Constant Frame Rate (CFR) first before loading it into Premiere Elements. Or, if you don’t have conversion software of your own available, you can upload the video to someplace like Vimeo or Youtube as they typically convert it to CFR on their end, and then download the converted version from them. The bottom line is that VFR videos can be an issue, and Adobe is one of many editing programs that still doesn’t handle them consistently. Again, you may go through dozens of videos with no issue, but if you work directly with enough VFR video you will eventually run into this. This has been a known issue for years, and I for one would expect a leader like Adobe to have figured it out by now. Otherwise it continues to be a great product overall and I continue to use and recommend it. The VFR issue is mildly annoying but not insurmountable.

If you are an advanced user you will like this, but there are probably better options out there, if you are a beginner or novice, you will LOVE this software. It is very simple to use and very intuitive. It will allow you to easily find your videos (and photos) and you can categorize them to make them easier to find. If you are like me, you probably take 1000's of photos and videos and are always searching through all of them to find the one you want. This will make it easier for you. This software simple just works. They include a DVD for MAC and Windows, but if you don't have a DVD drive you can download the rather large 2.6 GB file directly to your computer. I have been having a lot of fun with this, turning my simple videos in to fun videos with graphics, text, transitions, music and even voice overs.

I am an aspiring video editor (for Youtube and social media purposes). For those purposes, I think this software gets the job done. I think the software is relatively easy to use. I think it is important to make sure that your computer can handle the loads of video editing. Otherwise it is a long and painful process. I have heard that this software can be slow so I think that is something to be aware of. For a beginner editor like me, I am happy with it!

This video editor software has three modes that allow you to make videos: Quick, Guided and Expert. Each is true to its name. Quick mode allows you to simply pick which media you want in your video, and the program arranges it on the timeline for you. Of course, you can go in and fine-tune your video afterward, but this is a quick and easy way to make a video from the clips on your computer. Guided editing gives you the opportunity to learn about all the features and tools found in Premiere Elements. When you choose this mode, the program walks you through each component of the interface, explaining exactly what it does and how to use it. This is a great feature for people who are just beginning their video editing journey.

Adobe helps make editing your videos less stressful. They have great walk-through tutorials. And 3 different modes to help you get the hang of things. In till you feel comfortable enough to go at it on your own in expert mode. And the organizer is a very nice tool. Helping you find all the photos and videos on your computer. I liked this a lot. And Adobe has a big online community. If you ever get stuck, and need help with something. You're sure to find help on a forum. If you wish to take your videos to the next level this is the tool to help get you there.

Great software, but there's a learning curve

I'm a longtime Photoshop / Illustrator / InDesign user, but this was my first foray into video editing. Premiere Elements proved itself to be very versatile, but there's definitely a learning curve to using it. First off, there are no instructions. Prepare to search Google (or Bing if that's your cup of tea) like a maniac as not everything is as intuitive as it could be. I uploaded a video that I wanted to trim the beginning and end off of (nobody wants or needs to see 5 minutes of me fumbling around trying to setup the shot or awkwardly trying to turn things off), and I made the mistake of selecting the "Smart Trim" function. It then proceeded to spend an hour just analyzing my video in an effort to find any and all scenes without any people so that it could remove them. While I appreciate that this could be very useful, it wasn't at all what I wanted to do. I literally just wanted to trim 5 minutes from the beginning and end. It turns out, it's very easy to do this by just dragging the blue arrow to where you want to split the video, clicking "timeline" and choosing the split option, and then just selecting the part you don't want to keep and deleting it (no hour's worth of analysis needed). The second thing I noticed was that the software renders very slowly on my Y-series i7 processor. I know that video editing is a very demanding task, but I was honestly surprised by just how long it took on my system. I don't know that a U-series would have made much difference, but I thought it worth mentioning. I did appreciate that it tells you how big your file is going to be prior to exporting. I needed the file to be small enough to fit on a standard DVD (4.7GB), and it was going to be a teensy bit too big. Fortunately, Premiere had tools that allowed me to reduce the video quality to decrease file size. I managed to get it dropped down by switching from 1080p resolution to 720p. I need to practice with it more, but my initial impressions are that this is a good, solid piece of software with a lot of functionality. I look forward to learning how to use more of its functions.

I guess I expected a bit more from this program since Adobe has always been at the top of the game as far as photo, video and illustration is concerned in most people's eyes. Once the program finally arrived (took over a month after it was ordered) I was disappointed in the starting mode - Novice or beginner or something like that. It was actually harder to use than the old free video program you could download for Windows XP! After doing just a little looking around, I was soon into the advanced mode which is much more useful to get any real work done. I already own a copy of Adobe Premiere Pro from about 10-12 years ago and was expecting that there must have been some new developments in all that time! I was wrong, as this looks to be pretty much that exact program! I am sure underneath there are changes, but I can't find anything that differentiates these two very different aged programs (except the prices). I would have liked to have more time to dive into the inner workings to find what must be there, but I have a limited amount of time and have only run a few projects through it so far. I guess it could be seen as a real credit to Adobe that their "cheap" home program can function like their flagship program from a decade ago, but I really expected to see something modern from the newer tool. I guess now I have another program to use on another machine. I would have no problem recommending this to anyone looking for a program that can edit, mix and work with video files from just about any source that wants to stick with a company with a rich history of this kind of program. Spend a bit of time with it and you can really put out some great work. I just wish it was a bit more feature filled than the free offerings from just about everybody else out there! Even Windows itself has a decent video editor that does about the same job as the basic mode on this program.

    Disappointing for 4K editing

I've been a fan of Adobe's editing software for years and this iteration of Premiere elements is my first disappointment in a while. I recently upgraded to a 4K camera (The amazing Panasonic G7 Mirrorless Camera!) and needed something to edit the UHD footage. Unfortunately, playback within Premiere is choppy at best on the auto playback settings and very choppy at higher settings. It should be noted I'm using a high-end gaming laptop with a GTX1060 video card and the software struggles to play back the video. Playing back the files in VLC, however, is extremely smooth. As far as the interface, it's the usual fare with a novice setting that looks like iMovie and an expert mode that allows for multiple audio and video timelines. My biggest frustration is the lack of ability to shuttle video using the JKL keys. If you've ever used higher end editing software, J plays backward, K pauses and L plays forward to make finding edit points easily. It's usually a standard feature in editing software, but not here. Some positives include the ability to do simple color correction and automatic stabilization of GoPro video. I would recommend Premiere elements 2018 if you're working with HD video or action cam footage and need stable, easy to use software. If you're looking for something to edit 4K footage or a more polished experience, it might be worth looking into other software.

There simply is not a better video editing software. I have tried many others, and always come back to Adobe. Unlike Photoshop, the learning curve is pretty short. My son sat down and just knew what to do. He had never used the software before. He is 15, pretty sharp, but figured it out with no help from me within a few minutes. Now for the reason to drop a star. The disk gave read errors. We had to download the program from the Adobe site.

Ok, it's another Adobe video editing product... Adobe never disappoints in my honest opinion. With this new Elements 2018 software you can expect the usual video editing tools and timeline. It provides all the basics for the novice video editor or weekend hobbyist. Just make sure you have all the required specs on your PC or Mac to handle all the editing or you will get lag or bogged down while making an extended story line. It does provide a new organizational feature for your videos but it is very similar to the iPhoto library with dates, albums, favorites, ect... The one thing that I really like is the guided edits which there are several to choose to from which makes creating a quick story line to share very easy and pretty much does the work for you. Some may think that takes the fun out of it, but its nice to for someone that takes hundreds of clips and photos of their growing toddler to share with family. Speaking of sharing, it has the option to share directly onto social media outlets such as Facebook, and it also has the GIF creator that is becoming increasingly popular. That is a cool and fun feature to use to make silly GIFs to send to loved ones to spice up the casual text or social media banter. Overall, a good software and you can never go wrong with any Adobe products. I am a fan of the new Elements product.

I have used and liked Adobe Photoshop Elements for years, so I was intrigued by Premier Elements and how it handled movies. I was not disappointed in any way. This is has a very full set of features for creating movies from one or more sources with transitions, audio and more. It lives up to Adobe’s reputation for quality video tools. You create projects, import media and lay it out on your movie timeline. You can make adjustments to the video attributes using automatic or manual tools in the program. I’m sure a pro would immediately see missing features they need, but for most of us, this package contains features and functions we will be exploring for a very long time. There is a lot of functionality in this package. I recommend this to people who want to be creative with movie making for any occasion. This tool does have a learning curve, so be prepared to spend some number of hours with the package just gaining familiarity and mastering the basics. It takes some patience and dedication to learning the tool.., this isn’t a one-step magic movie maker...it is a creative tool.

Premiere Elements 2018 is Adobe's newest photo organizer. Facial recognition is amazing and getting better and better. I let it run overnight to search and organize my network backup drive of photos and videos. It was amazing at how well it could pick out the differences in family members who, honestly, have many similar facial characteristics. It's fun to see it ask to group pictures of the grandchildren as they keep getting older.(often mistakes one grandson for his father!) The more pictures you collect, the more important it is to be able to catalog and organize them. Even knows where the phots were taken. Greqt for vacation and travel shots. Here is why only three-stars: I've used earlier versions. If you need photo editing, opt for the more expensive Elements and Photoshop Elements version. Its worth the extra cash. (free trail available for the Photo Editting portion to try).

Installation was quick and simple. My notebook does not have a CD or DVD so it was nice to be able to download it directly from their website. Like that it updates the program if there are new changes. Creating a video library, organizing the videos and editing to a final product was very straightforward. I was surprised at how easy it was to create a polished final project. Will look at photo editing too. Would recommend to anyone looking for video editing that does not want to spend the big bucks for the fancy software but wants the majority of the feature available.

I have the 2.6mhz Mac mini as well as an I5 windows machine. The mac is what I use for photo and fun. I was going to choose which machine to install the software on, but going to the Adobe site, I see that I have the option to install the software on two machines. hxxps://forums.adobe.com/thread/1083824 for responses on the forum. There are 2 disks included, one for each operating system. Since the Mini doesn't have an optical drive, I attached one of my external usb optical drives to the unit. Adobe also has the option to download the software should you not have a drive available. The install took a while, but otherwise it was painless and worked on the first try. The serial # was asked for at the beginning of the install and I had to log into my Adobe account, but other than that, the software did it's thing and the program was up and running. I've used Premiere Pro and this is a stripped down version, but for most occasional users, it offers what one needs to create video. I didn't have a project available to test the software with, but it appears to be able to do most of the things that I would like to do with video.

As someone who is not a photographer, many times I need to "touch up" the photos I take. Not to mention, keeping them organized is a whole other thing. This package allows for organizing all my photos and touching up imperfections. It is pretty straight forward but I would caution that not unlike many photo/video editing programs, I would recommend a computer with good memory and a decent CPU. Mine is an i7 with 32GB of ram so I can't speak to using on a machine with less memory. It is barely moving the meter on CPU or memory usage so I can only assume it would be fine on a machine with 8GM of memory. As for pictures, there are a number of edits that can be done and some with the click of a single button so even a novice can make changes. Now this package may work for more advanced photographers it meets the needs of the occasional picture taker.
