I have used various Adobe products over the years, and the latest version of Premiere Elements has shown me a new side of Adobe.
Installation is very straightforward, with little fanfare. My only gripe is that I feel the software community needs to come up with a different, more modern installation media. Most devices that the user population operates as a “PC” do not include DVD drives. Is there not a way to include a read-only USB nub? I know we can download the installation (which I did), but it isn’t as fast as using some form of media locally. All things considered, the installation process went smoothly. You are required to sign up for an Adobe membership – I though this was unnecessary, but I get the point.
The software can be simply defined in a single word – easy. It is probably one of the most user-friendly video editing experiences I have had the pleasure of using. The layout is very inviting. Most video editors give the user that “you don’t know how do use this” feeling. Not Premiere Elements. It just looks and feels easy to use, and it is. There are project development modes: Quick, Guided, and Expert. Using a drag and drop approach, you can quickly turn a project into a movie with very little effort. You can also take the approach of one with video editing experience, like myself, and use Expert mode to further refine your final video. There are nice templates, effects, and dynamics that can be applied, allowing you to make significant adjustments to your production. While I have used editors with more detailed or granular options, I would say Premiere Elements has an environment that would be useful to not only the novice, but the more experienced user as well.
As for rendering, Premiere does a decent job. It produces the expected output (with all the common output formats available), and it does so admirably. Render times seem to be on par with the average editor – some editors have fast rendering. Rendered video is smooth, with good, synchronized audio. If you’ve ever edited video, it’s possible you have run into the final video with video hiccups, audio issues, etc. My experience with Premiere Elements was great – no such issues.
Overall, I recommend Adobe Premiere Elements 2018 for both the beginner/novice that’s interested in quickly creating videos from phone or camera capture, and the more experienced user looking for a very easy to use editor for projects they wish to complete quickly.

Adobe Premiere Elements is the scaled-down version of Adobe Premiere Pro, designed for the casual home user instead of movie-making professionals. This is not a bad thing it's just who they make this software for. It does an excellent job of guiding new users into the world of video editing, with a helpful series of built-in tutorials and introductory options that make it easy to start editing videos. There is an excellent set of tools for editing the content of existing videos, and a library of graphics, titles and other media available for adding an extra bit of style to your project. Rendering speed of your final output is fairly average compared to other video editors, so keep that in mind if you plan to work on large projects.
The support available for Premiere Elements is initially good, but you might run into trouble if you have more technical issues because Adobe relies heavily on community support forums to answer almost all their questions. I ran into a fairly serious bug with importing media directly from mobile devices, and I was unable to get a satisfactory answer about why.
Pros
• Easy of use - Guided modes help you learn to create nice-looking videos with absolutely no experience. Video Story and Instant Video modes almost automatically create family movies from raw footage. It can smartly curate moments and videos automatically from the raw files you upload.
• 4k 60fps support
• Key framing for animations
• Social media uploading
Cons
• Workspace is not as customizable as in some other programs
• More expensive than most consumer video editing software
• AI-driven features sometimes produce odd results
• Limited device support for certain cameras. I found it has trouble with Sony video footage resulting in crashes.
• Requires Adobe account
• Slow rendering footage
• Limited social media export presets

This is what I've been looking for. A Simple video editor to modify all the movies I've taken of my kids and create video simple video stories of them, and export them as needed. Its very simple and I'm having a blast making these videos. If you want something to quickly easily and simply edit video without having a large learning curve this is the software for you. Adobe has another winning product and it ties nicely in with Elements using the organizer so happy with this and I'm sure you will be too.

Superb Features and Slow Performance

If simplicity and some artificial intelligence to get your video going is what you need, you will find a lot to like about Adobe Premiere Elements 2018. Unless you are a pro and want to go with the Pro version, this will likely meet your needs, except for VR videos.
Elements is limited in comparison to its Pro sibling and it is easier on the CPU but with this 2018 version, it sometimes becomes too slow using a computer with i5-7400 CPU @ 3Ghz, 8GB Ram and a NVIDIA 1060 graphics card. That was my experience but I did not try it with a faster computer. Because I am used to this type of software, this slowness was not really a surprise.
Its new Candid Moments tool will scrub through a footage and select scenes that you most likely would want to show case. It will still let you add or delete from the auto selections but its guessing is at least 50% accurate. It also has a Smart Trim that automatically tries to purge all boring scenes, saving you precious time especially when used with the Candid Moments feature. The Guided Edits is a godsend to amateur video editors but I experienced a lot of crankiness at times and it was very CPU intensive.
It lacks the ability to edit 360-degree videos from VR cameras. That is disappointing if you have one of those. It also cannot write directly to Blu-Ray discs, only to DVD, although most people do not use either one anymore.
I would rate this software with 5 stars for all the nice features but the performance issue really struck me. Because I currently don’t have a computer with a faster processor to test Elements, I will give it 4 stars but if it acts like this on a faster computer, then 3 stars would be fair. I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt and recommending it for i7 or similar computer processors..

Decent video editing software

This software is intended to help you edit and make polished videos with your raw footage. I have used other video editing software before for my YouTube videos, so I consider myself to be pretty in tune with the process. With Elements 2018, there is an expert mode and easy mode. I went right to the expert mode because I like to be in control of every step of the video editing process. However, the software just doesn’t feel as polished as I was hoping when trying to fine tune certain things such as trimming to an exact point or trying to adjust multiple sections at one time. By comparison, I currently use a free editing software with just as many features as the Elements and it’s a lot more intuitive and easier to use. In addition to the video editing, there is an ‘organizer’ which will categorize all your photos. It only took a few minutes to import 30000 family photos I had stored on my computer and used face recognition to sort out individuals for easier searching. With that said, I would recommend the Elements 2018 for anyone that is just starting out into video editing and would benefit with the easier mode that offers step-by-step guidance.

Why pay when iMovie is free?

After a lengthy download of nearly 3GB, I started the installer. Thirty minutes later the installer was finished so I fired up Adobe Premier Elements 2018. The first run is always the longest, but even on subsequent program loads it takes a while even on a high powered Mac, as it scrolls thorough what seems like one hundred different modules.
Only the super rudimentary controls are available in the Quick or Guided mode. To find controls for adding narration, or editing the audio you must dive deep into the Expert mode.
Features like Smart Trim will take longer than the duration of the video itself and don’t produce very good results.
Export options are robust and should cover any possible need that you have.
The layout and mixing are nicely presented, but adjusting and editing are far from intuitive. I typically use iMovie for these types of tasks. While it isn’t exactly “user discoverable” either, at least Apple provides courses for the end user that make it a breeze.
I think I’ll stick with iMovie. For me, it’s a lot easier, loads way faster and integrates much better with the rest of the system.

I got this because I needed simple video editing software that will allow me to blur faces of people who ask not to be posted online in my videos. I have Premiere Pro access with my Adobe Creative Cloud membership, but the tools available in Pro are overwhelming.
The good news is, I can block faces out very easily with Premiere Elements. The bad news is, it still really feels like I need to take a class to really get the full value possible. While it is more intuitive than the Pro version, it is still not ideal for a casual user. For example, the Smart Trim feature is supposed to help assemble scenes based on the video style, but the ability to trim without using Smart Trim, has managed to elude me for 2 weeks now.
The strongest thing it has in its favor (other than being the dominant product on the market), is that you don’t have to have a monthly subscription, like many of the other Adobe products.

Excellent Video Editing for the Home User

For the casual home user, Adobe Premier Elements 2018 offers a reasonable amount of video editing utility. As with most creative software, there's a bit of a learning curve. But Premier Elements includes interactive guides that help you get over that curve. If you’re simply putting together some home movies (vacations, birthdays, kids, etc…), this is more than enough to get you going.

Good software, I primarily use iMovie, so there was a learning curve to this software. It does work very well though once you learn it. I recommend it highly if you have a PC - likely the best video editing software for PC. For Mac, I would stick with iMovie.

Well, I will start off by saying I know enough to be dangerous with video editing software. I have used Windows Movie Maker in the past with pretty good success. I found myself looking for some of the features found easily in Movie maker, but once I found my way around I found Elements has all the same features and much more. I suggest using the guided editing mode for beginners. Once you learn the program you can advance to Expert mode. I really like the Automatic Slideshow feature found in Organizer Mode.
This software is packed with ways to organize all your media, import from devices and make almost any type of video you want. I really like the built-in feature to create DVD menu's as well. I used to have to open a third party DVD software to do this before.
All in all, I have just scrapped the surface of this software, but I am now confident that I have a tool to do almost anything I would ever want when it comes to organizing photos, making slideshows and editing video/audio. Nice job Adobe.

I've had a chance to use several Video Editing softwares as I create dance videos and product videos. Using the Adobe Premier Elements 2018, making home videos is easy and quick. There are multiple templates that allow you to just select your photos or videos,, add your own music and it can coordinate the two to make a pretty easy video!
I've had some trouble using Apple Live photos, the video ended up blurry and unusable. I'll keep working on that and update this review.
In all - if you don't know much about video editing, this software is easy to setup, easy to use with a few features that will make your videos pop!

I've had this for about a month now and it's packed full of features. Currently on sale for $66.99 as of 12/30 as well which makes it an even greater value. I have a lot of videos I record with my iPhone X and with 4K videos being so big, Premiere Elements 2018 handles them pretty well. Requires some tinkering and figuring things out but it's well worth it.

For basic video editing there are better editors out there. This tool does the job but has a learning curve. I agree with another reviewer that the guys who designed it(whose names are proudly displayed over the splash screen), could have done a better job of stream lining the interface.
If you keep working with it though; it will get easier (goes for everything). And it does have many features to play with.
Basic trimming of video is good; and so is the addition of text. I could not find a way to add transition with in a video. Say I trimmed something in my video and now want to transition into that. Could not find it. I can split the video and add the transition, but that is an extra step.
I think the photo software is much more mature than the this video one.

I currently use iMovie for all of my editing, but switching to Elements was not as easy as I thought, however it is possible. Jump on YouTube if you have issues, and you can find lots of help. Or you can go to Geek Squad for help as well.
Great software, and works well on my iMac.

Quick and easy tool, to keep track of the 1,000's of pictures and videos it seems like we take every week.
Catalog, sort, find and choose what to keep and what not to keep.
Clean interface, and easy to find what you are looking for.
