    Great learner's phone! Great Price!

This phone is my second at Alcatel phone. My first one was what they considered a beginner's cell phone and I kept it for two years before realizing that I definitively need more room and power. My original phone came from T-Mobile. However, Best Buy's cost on this next level up could not be topped (Not in to paying a car/house payment for.a call phone). It a great phone with plenty of memory and gadgets. Love it. Only problem is there being enough room to connect the battery charger line end into the phone slot with a cover on it. It keeps coming out so you have to take that part of the cover off to connect the charger. Get pictures and easy to use. T-Mobile transferred all of my data to my new phone without charging me, also.

Coming from a LG 39c to this is like a huge difference. This hooks up to the Tracfone network with a BYOP plan it works out to less than $10 a month You have to buy a SIM for a buck and buy minutes then use your wi-fi for everything. The phone itself is slick you should get a good flip over case to keep it protected.Wife has Samsung 3 this is as good if not better. Was a Black Friday special would definitely buy another for a gift at same price.

    1. The phone is described as new, and it's probably new, BUT it came in a package that was opened and then taped close. According to the box and the documentation, this is originally AT&T go phone, and I guess they had to open it to unlock. 2. There is still a lot of AT&T stuff on the phone that you can't delete. 3. They claim it has 8GB storage, but don't expect to be able to access most of it. If you go to Settings and select Storage, it states following: Total space: 3.95GB; Available: 3.05GB. Fortunately, I don't really need a lot of storage. 4. It is pretty thick for a new phone, and has a screen that is longer but narrower comparing to most other phones of the same size. 5. It accepts Micro SIM cards. 6. It makes short vibrations every time your call is connected and disconnected, which is pretty annoying. If anyone knows how to turn it off, please let me know by adding your comment to this review - thank you!

Good quality, but issue with 4G

    Posted .

I purchased this phone on black Friday because bestbuy was selling at $50, the phone had 2-yrs warranty, and Alcatel is one of the few good brands. I was excited about this purchase thinking that I paid only $50, but my excitement did vanish in a couple of days when I found that the phone restarts itself. After keeping an eye on the phone for a few days, I found that it restarts only when I drive or I am in a remote area. I googled about the issue and luckily found the reason behind restart. I am using T-mobile connection and had turned 4G LTE on. The 4G LTE service of T-mobile is not available in all areas of ABQ and therefore whenever I drove in areas where T-mobile signal was weak, phone used to restart. My phone never restarted in my school or in my house as T-mobile signal is excellent in these places. To fix the issue, I changed the network settings in my phone and set 3G as the default data service and after that it never restarted. So, if any of you are facing restart issue, just stop using 4G LTE and use 3G. This solution worked for me. Hopefully it might work for you, too. My finding is - this phone supports 4G only if the strength of the signal is excellent, otherwise, it restarts itself. But I don't know why doesn't it ,like other brands, work in case of bad signal. My friend has samsung phone and she never had the restart issue though we go to all the places together in the same car. All other features of this phone are like samsung phone - my the most favorite brand. I haven't observed any other issue and the phone works like charm. Speed, sound quality (the default music player doesn't have equalizer, so you might try VLC music player), picture+video quality, and call quality are just superb. Finally I started loving this phone.

No on-off data toggle switch on my phone

    Posted .

I too bought this phone during the Thanksgiving sale. I knew I had to pull the trigger knowing it was going to be sold-out the next day -- which it was. The phone arrived pretty quick but I just opened the box to this phone three and a half days ago because I kept reading the phone turning on and off by itself problems. I HAVE NOT YET activated this phone with a cellular network -- I have only been wi-fi'ing around the web and learning the Marshmallow operating system. I must admit the only experience I have with a smartphone is with a 4" junker with KITKAT 4.4.4. I seriously thought about never opening the box to this phone and selling it because I knew a 5.5" screen phone it just too big for me to lug around everyday and purchase myself a 5" phone, but because of the price during the Thanksgiving sale I couldn't pass it up. As of right now almost four days since opening the box I have had NO "phone turning on-and-off by itself" issues I've read from a few others with this phone except the phone goes into lock-mode after 30-minutes which is the longest time you have in the Marshmallow settings. And I don't know if the phone updated itself to 6.1 when I first turned on the phone (if that's possible) or if the phone already had 6.1 installed because I know I did not update the phone to 6.1 myself. If you buy this phone you will absolutely want to purchase an anti finger/smudge screen cover. I have yet to take the phone outside to see how hard it will be to view the screen in the sunlight but I pretty-much already know the answer to that from the limited reviews I seen on this phone and the phone's brothers and sisters that are under different model names sold by AT&T, Metro pcs, Cricket, etc -- and as bad as the screen smudges up -- along with a bright sun -- it's going to be very difficult to view that screen. The phone buzzes around the internet with wi-fi pretty good but keep in mind I'm not a social media junkie, and the only game I play on the internet is chess and you don't need a strong processor for that -- but I've seen numerous Spanish/Youtube reviews of this phone where people have played Asphalt8. But I seriously doubt this phone with a 1.1 gig processor is gong to snap a good pic running multiple apps and playing Asphalt8 all at the same time. And no, I haven't taken a picture with this phone yet, but having a 5mp camera on my current junker which surprisingly takes decent pic's, I'm pretty familiar with cheap Chinese phone cameras -- it's all about lighting and not running a bunch of apps at the same time while taking a pic so the camera doesn't have to struggle increasing your chances of moving your arm while the camera finally processes the pic increasing your chances of producing a blurry pic. The only complaint I have about this phone, and it's not the phone's fault it's Marshmallow's fault -- my Pop 4+ does NOT have an internet/data on-off toggle switch anywhere -- NOT in the little pull down menu, nor in settings. I'm assuming that I'll get one when I receive the network carrier's bloatware when I do choose a cell-phone carrier. And I do not like that. I do not like having a cell phone carrier's data on/off switch IF I even am given one. I want my own data on-off switch that I trust. This is a big issue for my because I am not gong to get an unlimited phone minutes and data plan. i do not use a cell phone much especially for surfing the web except when I'm waiting for someone so I had in mind to use Tracfone's roll-over minutes/data plan to avoid paying $50 bucks a month for a plan I won't half use. And I absolutely don't trust Tracfone with my data count, so I definitely want my own built-in data on-off toggle switch. If I did recommend this phone to a friend I'd definitely tell him/her there is no data on-off switch in Marshmallow 6.1 with my Pop 4 Plus phone.

Very happy with this, especially for the price.

I'm very happy with this phone and it's hard to beat for the price I paid (~$50) during the Thanksgiving sales. I switched to this Alcatel Pop4 Plus with 5.5" screen and 1.5 GB RAM from an older Alcatel Onetouch Evolve with 4" screen and 512 MB RAM. I was constantly running out of memory on the old phone and could hardly install any apps. That's no longer the case with this new phone. It's also much easier for me to type with this new phone because the keyboard keys appear larger on the screen. The only issue I've encountered is that the phone comes pre-loaded with some unnecessary apps and also some type of launcher that if you're not careful to avoid will automatically install numerous additional "teenage girl" type of apps that I had to waste my time to remove one by one. I definitely didn't need a fingernail polish and doll type of games.

This phone is ineligible for activation according to two tracfone reps that I called. Something is wrong with the IMEI number. I chatted with two reps from Best Buy and was given the runaround. They never resolved the problem and I can't even find a customer complaint number on the web site. Geek Squad also proved to be worthless.

    Best Bang For Your Buck

    Posted .

I just purchased this device at Best Buy for my niece... she broke her old phone and asked to going shopping with her gullible Uncle. She wanted an Unlocked phone and this phone was super easy to set up... she put her SIM in and it automatically recognized her card and set the phone to her network (T-Mobile). The reason she wanted this phone was how great it looked (Silver back cover)... looks like a $300 for half the price. Additionally, she is a data hound so having LTE was a must... If you are looking for a great value, this is the phone for you...

    Sufficient for my gf needs

I read the reviews on this before buying for my girlfriend, who needed an unlocked phone because her other one was so old it wouldn't do updates and kept getting slower. She likes it, it's not the best phone obviously, but for $37 neither one of us are complaining. I wanted to get her a better one, but she wanted a cheap one so she can drop hers and probably get it wet, multiple times. The camera pics are nice, even in low light conditions, the screen is large, and it has Android 6.0, so again, for less than forty dollars it was well worth the risk.

    Great starter smart phone

I bought three of these, one for each of my three teenagers. For each one if them this was their first smartphone, so they don't have much to compare them to. With that in mind, my kids each like their phone. It can run the latest apps and takes good pictures. I'm sure a more expensive phone would be faster and the pictures better, but my teens are completely satisfied. For our family, anything more would of been a waste of money. If you dont need the new "cool" phone, this is a great buy.

Wifi Poor and Screen ok - Performance Excellent

    |
    Posted .

The big problem with this phone is the WIFI signal reception which is very poor compared to other phones. You need to be pretty close to the router for reception of WIFI. But the navigation is very smooth even now and I am happy with that. THe screen is very brittle. It got scratches for a single fall and hence needs to be handled carefully. Performace is fantastic and it is light weight and camera is good.

    Surprisingly good for the price

Pros: Fast enough for what I use. Has 2 SIM slots - I use one for LTE data, the second for 2G voice/text. The camera can take surprisingly good pictures in good light. The screen is easy to read. Cons: Last security update was in August 2016. Does not support different user profiles or guest. Difficult to fit in a pocket. The screen is not oleophobic and gets dirty easily. The camera's auto exposure can be unreliable and require a few tries.

replaced my Nexus 5 with this phone, as I'm waiting for the price of the Pixel to lower. The Alcatel Pop 4 Plus is just as good or better than my old nexus. Don't let the name fool you, overall it's a quality phone. Swiping through apps is quick, speed of the phone is great. The phone is very light, and not easy to hold, a case is definitely needed. The phone speaker leaves a bit lacking though, but overall it is a quality phone that is definitely worth the asking price.

    Great entry android phone

I've had the cell phone for one year, so far it has been holding up very well, nice big screen for watching netflix, this is my first time using an alcatel phone I hesitated a lot being used to iphones, but I needed a basic phone for my job and it has been great, solid and reliable thus far. So if you need an entry level android phone you can't go wrong with this one, specially if you get a deal on it!
