    Good But Not Great

I got this as I have all the Alien movies from the first to the last. I've noted that it seems that most people that liked the first Alien movie liked the second movie less. I, myself, liked the second movie "Aliens" best and sort of thought the ones after that went sort of down hill. I watched this one thru and felt that the movie before left some things undone and I didn't feel this movie picked up on that very well. The movies with Ripley as the main character seem to me to come off better than the one that followed even though you have a number of things that get in the way. What I liked about the earlier movies were the way the heroes have a way of coming out on top even if things fall apart around them. Even the one before this one carried that theme forward in a sort of interesting way. So there was always hope in the future. In this one, there doesn't seem to be that theme left with the viewer. And it isn't the aliens that kill off the people, it's the AIs they created that do! I found this to be the must depressing of all the movie as the hope that is normally there isn't any more. We'll see if there is another movie, how this gets corrected if it is. I liked this movie but so far, "Aliens" is still my favorite.....

My review is based on the dvd, since my blu-ray player has no remote. The movie itself is fun though predictable, since we all know how it eventually ends: Alien. This movie plays with the mythos created by Dan O'Bannon's hardcore sequel to his and John Carpenter's Dark Star. The result, originally titled Star Beast, eventually was re-titled Alien after extensive re-writes by (David) Giler, with input by (Walter) Hill and Gordon (no android avatar...yet) Carroll. This is a deeper exploration into the alien lifestyle, with some devastating death sequences, much better in the end than the much-maligned Prometheus. I prefer this over the prequel, though some of the alien infants look too thin and fragile. That don't last long, though. The characters are well drawn and don't do as many stupid things as their Prometheus predecessors. For that, and for creating more Gigeresque aliens, I give it 5 stars, but subtract 1 for making David the unholy annihilator of an entire species of humanoid, and creator of the xebomorphs. And that terrible bowl cut for the current 'Ripley'. Quite a fascinating, refreshing and downright terrifying film.

Alien Covenant in 4K not too Bad

I bought the movie Alien Covenant in the 4K version, and compared the quality of the 4K to the Blu-ray version. The 4K version is noticeably better in terms of video, with better colors and realistic look. It was played through an Oppo UDP-205 on an LG 4K OLED HDTV. The images and colors were very realistic, so on terms of being a 4K movie it was a five stars. However, while the acting was pretty good, as were the special effects and sets, the story line was kind of old hat for the Alien series. If it was the first movie then, okay the plot isn't too bad, but this is the sixth movie in the series, so without trying to give away the plot, there wasn't anything really surprising including the "Surprise" ending, which I had already predicted. Anyway, not a bad purchase at $14.99 for a new 4K movie on the Best Buy Black Friday sale...

*This Review Contains Some Spoilers* Read at your own risk Most people who I talked to about this movie were not big fans. It seems like most people don’t like when reboots are too close or too far away from the original films. In the case of covenant most would say that Ridley Scott went too far off course from the originals. I disagree. I very much enjoyed the philosophical approach that Ridley Scott went for with this follow up to Prometheus. The reason that I did not give the movie 5 stars was for two reasons. 1 it is just a little too far fetched that the Covenant would redirect off the intended course. Second, I thought the movie could have spent some time exploring and giving closure to Elizabeth Shaw. Otherwise a good movie that I would recommend watching.

The film is lacking, but bonus features help

As a film, this one might be better than Prometheus, but that's not saying much. If you happen to like the film, though, I do recommend this Blu-Ray if for no other reason than I'm a bonus material junkie and this includes an assortment of bonus material, ranging from a nicely done "in-universe" commercial for Walter to several deleted/expanded scenes and other material that flesh out the story of Alien: Covenant, not to mention a solid making-of documentary and a commentary track with Ridley Scott that... well, that I haven't listened to yet (because Scott seems way more into these Alien prequels than I am), but I'm sure it contains some interesting insights into the making of the film.

After what was to be an origin movie, Alien covenant picks up after the events of Prometheus. Prior to the film coming out and after a lackluster response from fans with Prometheus, Ridley Scott promised us more answers with Alien covenant. What we ended up with was more of the same. Although there is nothing new in this film that we haven't seen before, it was still a decent film. The film boasts a beautiful picture from start to finish. The special effects were excellent as well. The audio was superb and there is a good deal of interesting special features. Overall, this was not the movie Alien fans were hoping for, but not as bad as some critics said.

After the fairly poor Prometheus, Alien returns with Alien: Covenant. Acting as a sequel to Prometheus, Covenant finds the crew of the vessel Covenant investigating an uncharted world. The usual Alien shenanigans follow suit, and we learn the origin of the xenomorphs. What sets Alien: Covenant above Prometheus and other titles in the series is its pretty solid acting. The film features a star studded cast, but the Danny McBride steals the show. If you're a fan of the franchise, this movie is a positive rebound after Prometheus. If you're not a fan of the franchise, however, you probably won't find much to enjoy about this film.

Awesome movie. Better than Prometheus for sure. Felt a lot like Alien, although it didn't delve into too much "new" territory. But the acting was great, the main character was kickass! Same kinda vein as Sigourney Weaver's Ripley. And Michael Fassbender was excellent in his dual-roles as Walter/David. He continues to impress. The CGI was pretty bad at sometimes though. I wish they used more practical effects for the Aliens, but the gore and gruesomeness was super enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed Covenant! One can easily look past the minor flaws, and just sit back and enjoy the ride!

First of all, you have to see Prometheus(2012) beforehand. David's plot line is pretty confusing audiences with Walter's one. Audiences can not say which one is David or Walter. This is the biggest issue of this film positively and negatively. In the 21st. century, the good is weaker than evil like in this film. The story starts when the new captain takes initiative to distract the planned course of a colonial voyage. They are forced to go to an unknown planet where evil David and his creatures are waiting for the victims.

I expected a lot more from this as a followup to the great Prometheus, a film I've watched and enjoyed the most since 2012. Cheats its way out of continuing the story of David and Elizabeth Shaw with a bit of a time jump where Shaw is long dead and David goes full psychopath. Where Prometheus had some wonder and exploration this is full brutality from start to finish, and not in a fun way. Very bleak ending to what seemed like a promising new Prometheus trilogy going to new worlds and getting new revelations.

    A Better Film Than Prometheus

This movie's plot should be familiar to anyone who's watched the Alien franchise: you're introduced to a group of people onboard a ship (this time the crew of a colony vessel charged with ferrying 2,000 colonists to a new home planet) who make an unexpected detour to a planet where you get to see them picked off one (or a few) at a time. To say anything further would spoil the way this story ties in with Prometheus, but suffice to say that it felt satisfying in that regard, and the underlying subplot which develops as a result makes for one of the better (and darker) chapters of the Alien mythos.

Killer Looking Steelbook But Mediocre Film

Hands down this 4K steelbook is amazing looking. That's the sole reason I bought it to stay sealed in the wrapper too. I know that sounds stupid, but it is what it is. It's the collector disease in me. LOL. The front looks freaky with the baby alien, but it's the rear cover that is the sinister looking, evil alien we're all used to. This one sold out fast too! The movie is so-so, not as good as Prometheus, but it's still a good time with some fantastic kill scenes. After watching the previous installment, Prometheus, I was a little skeptical over Ridley Scott's new installment. But overall, I was very pleased. Just like every film in the Alien series, Covenenant is stunning to look at. Excellent cinematography, fantastic creature and gore effects, and dark oppressive set pieces all work well to establish the film visually. Solid performances from the actors, especially from Michael Fassbender. Although, not all of the plot points from Prometheus are carried over very well. It's still a solid movie, and an effective return to form.

If you grew up watching Alien and Aliens, then you will love to see the origins in this new trilogy that date prior before the original franchise began! Ridley Scott is amazing, and I wouldn't doubt his ideas and inspirations! He will forever be the director that put countless movies on the map that are now coming back in sequels or prequels! The action, casting, and storyboard are great! I'm happy to see the movie shows you different possibilities and remains unpredictable. If you want prediction, watch any of the fast and furious movies.

Alien Covenant seems to fit nicely in the reboot of the Alien saga starting over with Prometheus. Just a lot more victims involved this time and a return of the "bad" robot causing most of the trouble. The sets for the ship is outstanding, and the place they filmed the exteriors was extremely otherworldly. What's nice, and I hope I am not giving anything away, is that it is open for a followup movie to add on to the whole story!!! Our fav monster buddys are all involved. So let's get ready for maybe a whole new set of movies stemming from these 2.

I bought this movie to buy my first 4K blueray. To see what’s the big deal about 4K. And aside of looking great on my new tv, the movie was surprisingly good. No spoilers but the story was pretty cool! And makes the old movies sorta connect to the new one and give it an orgin story that makes sense. And it wasn’t cheesy about it! I would have given it 5 stars but the movie didn’t come with any making of or more background story. I guess I wanted more content. But other then that, great movie.

The blu-ray disc is excellent, producing both high-quality images and sound. The movie's itself is much better than reviews would indicate. It is solid and well-paced. I want more of the mystery and back story explained or at lease exposed than this movie provides, especially in consideration of the plot of Prometheus. The color-palette matches Prometheus, but comes off as more of a copy than original. The alien ships and setting designs are very nice extensions of the original movie and Prometheus.

I am a huge admirer of Ridley Scott's filmmaking from "Blade Runner" to "The Martian", and I was excited for this movie, as an "Alien" fan, and because I'm one of the few people who liked "Prometheus". I enjoy this movie very much, it's thrilling at times, it's beautifully shot, has great performances, and the score is a really cool throwback to Jerry Goldsmith's original cues, but it does drag in the middle, and the script is a bit sloppily put together. But overall it's a fun movie, and the Blu-ray quality is top-notch.

Viewing experiencing at theater way stronger than at home. It's usually the opposite, in my home theater, (8 foot screen), that I discover the true worth of a film when viewing at home. But, this version of Alien, seemed predictible and not all that interesting when I viewed it at home. I usually find little gems of the plot I missed when at the theater, viewing for the first time, when revisiting the movie at home. Not this one. It lost ground once viewed at home. Unexpected & unfortunate really, but there it is.

If you're a fan of the Aleins Universe and of the new sequels, you will like this and 4K UHD is as good as you can possibly watch and listen to them at home today. If you're not a fan, this movie won't sway you, no matter how good it looks or sounds. It's not exactly a "joy, joy, happy, happy" film but Ridley Scott can make some amazing-looking films, including this one.
