This laptop is a great laptop that has all the bells and whistles. Its fot a very large batter lasting 5 hours during normal non gaming use. You can how ever get a much better brand for a lot cheaper. I would say only get this if you can find a very steep discount like I did.

I bought this laptop and it was running fine until one day I got just a black screen when I attempted to turn on my laptop. I then restarted the laptop again and I received a blue screen stating there is an issue with my system or something. Meh...we’ll see.

Just got the Alienware a few months ago and it does everything I need it to do..yes it’s heavy, but if you did your research you would’ve already known that it was going to be. I really don’t use it for gaming, but my son does and loves playing Fortnite on it. Overall very happy with my purchase.

We got this for my son who loves it, it has a fast vid card and it looks fantastic! It was last years model, but that's fine it was cheaper. Seems to fly through apps and games. Glowing keybopard and touch pad, very cool look to it that you can adjust. Silly stuff, but my son really likes it.

Looks evilly sleek. The backlit keyboard and trim adds to the gaming performance. All games load and play fast, little to no latency. Bright screen with noticeably richer and deeper colors. It brought my SIMS to life! The keyboard feels comfortable. Overall, a very powerful addition to my gaming.

Bought it for games and it runs fine. Overheats a little but that can be remedied easily. The backlit keyboard light sometimes turns itself off and it had blue screened a couple times. Overall, would buy again along with a cooling pad.

    Issues from start

The first thing I noticed when I took this laptop out of the box was the weight. This sucker is heavy! It also needed a lot of Windows updates so it’s likely it had been sitting on the shelf for a while. It has no numpad so the whole keyboard placement is shifted, which will cause you problems if you’re a touch typist like me. But the biggest problem I had was that the speakers stopped working after a week. I researched the issue and apparently there is a Windows update that can cause conflicts, but even after re-downloading the driver, it didn’t solve the issue. I returned this computer for the MSI GS63 and I like it much more.

    Good computer, but some flaws

First, the performance of the machine was stellar. This was the version with a 128gb ssd, 1tb hdd and the GTX 1070. Game performance was great - it had the Gsync screen and I had no tearing, AA worked great and the machine stayed cool. The not so great... - When playing older games (TF2, Portal 2) the fans would spin up and while probably quiet for this class of machine, it was too loud for me. Look for the full review on notebookcheck.com and look at the emissions section. - Heavy. The day I bought it I was deciding between the 13" and this, and decided I wanted the 1070, but in the end I wish I'd gotten the smaller machine. - Big. The machine is just big - I had a hard time fitting it in my backpack, and while it was very solid and had great build quality - it was just a bit to move around. - Fingerprint magnet. The soft touch surface for the palm rests and elsewhere really show fingerprints. - I intended to use this as a desktop replacement and then do some gaming in other parts of the house. While battery seemed like it would hold up to 2 hour gaming sessions, a spare power adapter (the main work area would have had it run under the desk) is quite expensive. - You can't have the lid closed and have it plugged into an external monitor and turn it on easily. Older Dells sit in real docking stations and that's great - but I just wanted a usb-c dock and wake on USB. To do this you need to enable it the bios, change the power plan settings to do nothing when plugged in while the lid was closed, allow USB to wake the computer, and then go into the device manager and allow specific USB devices to wake the computer. I couldn't get it to work with a mouse or keyboard, but it did finally work after I introduced a powered usb 3.0 hub in the mix. I have no doubt there might have been an easier way, but I got tired of trying different things I found on line and this seemed to work. In the end, I chose to return the machine. The size, the fan noise and the wake on USB issues were too much for me given the price. I've since decided to wait for the 13" to go back on sale and grab that - at least then the size and weight will be addressed and if I want to do something with tougher games, I'll add the Alienware Graphics Accelerator. Best of luck to those buying it. If you can deal with those issues - its a fantastic machine, but didn't quite meet my needs.

    Lots of Power

I needed a new laptop since mine was falling apart and I was looking into getting a laptop for multimedia since I am going to major in that field. I was looking into both macs and gaming laptops. I like the mac for the nice sleek design and longevity. I saw in one of my local stores, there was a 512gb macbook pro as a open box a little over $2000. Even though that was a smoking deal, I still waited a week because it was still a large lump sum to stomach for only my productive needs and no gaming aspects. After doing some more research, I realized that to get a gaming laptop with specs I wanted, I would have to order it online. The only one that fitted my needs was the Alienware 17.3 incher they had out on display in their store, and I was not about to settle for something so huge! When I went back having it set in my mind to just grab the macbook pro I saw this puppy in the open box area. It was an online order returned and at 1/2 of the cost of the Macbook open box I was considering! It was like a godsend! I snagged it up real quick since it has all the power of the 17.3 Alienware displayed but in a smaller package. Not only would this suit my productive needs as a multimedia major, but I could also game with this that I knew a macbook would lack in. Best decision ever! Now I have the option of gaming with high graphics games like Witcher (witcher 2 and 3 runs smoothly on high settings!), Mass Effect, and even doing VR. Still learning my programs for music production to truly test the machine. But I'm happy overall with my machine! Built solid and with little issues. PROS: -beautiful display! bright, sharp! -LOTS OF POWER! -love the custom features -less bloatware than other PCs -decent battery for being a power house (3-4hrs of use) -modifiable, can upgrade to 32gb of memory and has 2 slots for m.2 SSDs -includes SSD CONS: -HEAVY, compared to MSI and other 15.6 inch gaming laptops -no touchscreen, music editing would be much easier with a touch screen vs mouse -Alienware FX program used to change the RGB lights for keyboard is GLITCHY, Sometimes lights work and doesnt work. Must restart PC every time they dont come back on from sleep mode -does heat up quite a bit, but also to be expected with the beefy processor and graphics card -small SSD, would prefer 256gb to start
