Overall this laptop is an outstanding performer. It does have a few issues which resulted in a 4 star rating. The cursor freezes quite frequently requiring a reboot. The battery is not user accessable and it weighs a ton. I would not recommend this laptop until the cursor freezing issue is resolved.

The Alienware 17 r5 intel i7 8th gen gtx1070 with 256ssd and 1tb hard drive is a power house. So far everything I gave it to run has ran smoothly. This laptop has not overheated over the time I’ve had it and I would use it most days sometimes 8hrs a day. There are some bugs but I’m pretty sure it’s not the computer just some of the Alienware software where drivers won’t install as well as some Nvidia software that just won’t download but I already had it which is weird. The only problem I had was that atfer i picked this up at the bestbuy store I opened it at home and there were finger prints all over the top of the laptop. I don’t know if it was a display model or they were just showing it to someone out of the box but it did bother me a lil. Although it still had plastic covering the gloss part of the laptop. Most games are capped at 60fps I’ve done everything I could and uncapped some games but most games are still capped at 60 FPS and I just don’t know what to do anymore. But overall great laptop.

I’m not a gamer, but chose this laptop as an effective semi-mobile solution to replace my desktop for music storage and streaming and video editing. It’s killer. The SSD boot drive has enough capacity for small apps and the 1TB secondary drive more than adequate for my music and movie editing. Everything from purchase to my first software installs were easy, not much bloatware to contend with. And I purchased at an awesome price......Nobody could match price or provide a good alternative solution so they told me to go to Best Buy to purchase. I am an IT professional. So far, awesome. I’ll update after a few months.

Everything about this alien ware is tops. Fast and powerful. graphics are great. A little heavy but that means it has lots of POWER!

it behaves super stable. It has a good video card for those who use it for rendering, gaming and editing video. a good performance, ssd, hard drive. and its 17.3 screen really good.

Even though this is a gaming laptop primarily, I actually bought it mainly for photography. Loading and editing large file size digital photo's in Lightroom and Photoshop was almost hanging my older HP completely. This thing flies through them with absolutely no problem at all. As a bonus I can game on it :) The boot and shut down time is amazing, faster than anything I have ever seen. It can get a little noisy when its working really hard but it's almost unnoticeable for me.

So I got this laptop with one objective, gaming. Now to be clear, I meant, GAMING! So if you’re wondering if you should get this for let’s say, World of Warcraft, then you’ll fall in love. Let’s say you get this for, COD Black Ops 4, then you’ll freakin fall in love. If you got the funds, this is a top of the line budget gaming hog, and I have recommended to everyone in that price range. Happy hunting, and don’t forget to collect your lootz!!

I purchased this laptop for work (I am an accountant) and do a lot of work on the road - I wanted a laptop with a real full-size keyboard (where even the numeric keypad was normal-sized). I have been happy with the computer overall, though buyers should bear in mind that the laptop weighs something like 10 pounds. Most of my travel is driving places, so I am not concerned about the weight. However, if you are a frequent air traveler, you should consider the weight of the machine. Otherwise the computer has been fast and seems hardy - it takes a little while to get used to the Alienware-specific software (e.g. to control the keyboard backlight, etc.)

This is my first Alienware laptop and I absolutely love it. The build quality is pretty good and the keyboard has good travel. I like the RGB lights which are controlled through software. The software to control the RGB can be a little confusing though. Games run perfectly on this machine and the thermals seem to be good as well. Using a heavy workload can cause the fans to get a little loud but that is normal on a lot of other laptops in the same price point. Overall, would recommend!

First, the configuration of the laptop I have differs from the description. I am reviewing the laptop with the GTX 1060 Graphics card. Very happy with this system. The performance is very good. Under heavy load the fans can get rather loud. One complaint about the system as I received it however prevents me from giving it a 5 Star review. The memory modules installed were 2x8GB at 2400MHz when the description of the system said that the installed memory was 2666MHz. It's a minor thing, but I didn't notice it until I opened the system up to add another nVME SSD, and I plan on updating it to 32GB soon anyway.

I absolutely love this laptop. I love how colorful it is. I love how fast it boots up. Perfect! However, this is the heaviest laptop I have ever interacted with in my life. And it’s definetly not a laptop you want to have on your lap while playing games. It’s gets really hot and your legs will go numb from the weight. Fortunately I’m mostly using it for work at a desk so it fits my needs perfectly. But when I bring it to the living room to play a game on my lap- it’s too big and heavy to be comfortable.

Excellent gaming laptop. But as for actual gaming no matter what you are really playing the fan speeds are always at 100%. And it eats through battery like no other. But as for the actual gaming part I actually have to say that it does compete well against a 2,000 dollar gaming pc. The keypad is a major + along with the ability to easily open the laptop up and upgrade parts. This system does stay a lot cooler then any other gaming laptop I have ever had. But I do suggest getting a cooling pad for it. Also getting a mouse as well. For the touch pad is nice. Just not for gaming with.

So far it’s been a great solution for a 24 hour gamer. Resolution, performance and speed can’t be difficult to overcome with any other brand! Configuration is a big factor and this is pump up! The only recommendation is to get an external hard drive to store your games! With Fornite and other similar games you could run out of local memory really fast. Besides that, it is a great pc for entertainment or anything else you need!

Overall an awesome laptop. Amazing speed and display. The battery life is pretty bad, but that’s somewhat understandable given how much juice this laptop puts out. Would highly recommend buying a mouse to use with it as the touchpad is pretty frustrating to use. If you’re a gamer or need something fast for work (and are able to constantly charge it) then I would recommend. Customization is also a nice plus.

For those who know, no explanation is necessary. This is the second Alienware laptop I have ever owned and am completely blown away with how it performs. 16 GB Ram, 8 GB GTX1070 Graphics Card, 256 GB SSD (Boot Drive), 1 TB mechanical spin drive for storage and other non intensive hdd access games and applications.

I'm capable of playing all my games in ultra, loads fast, no lag anywhere even while using it on my oculus. Don't get hot on my lap like my r3 did. Great investment in top of I'm capable of changing out video card and other components when they get outdated. A+

Runs fast, great graphics, nice big screen, heavy duty outer case.

I will be having a Skype job interview next week and a reliable computer is what I need to help me get the job. After I'm done, my son will get this for college. So far wifi is great, open fast, speakers is very clear. Screen is very clear as well. More updates to come as I use more of this tank. Very heavy though if you are looking for a light weight.

This thing is a beast. Yes both in terms of hardware , and size. Gaming on this has been great. Graphics are beautiful, great FPS in high for most games. Works great with VR. Other thoughts : the fans are loud , although it’s to be expected given the hardware it’s cooling, it only has two standard USB ports which is annoying if you want to plug in more than just your mouse and keyboard. Oculus rift uses 3. Overall a great buy RGB lighting is fun too.

By great quality at a fair price. Only install video games on the 256 gb SSD drive. The 1tb hard drive is for movies and music and will run installed games with a very slow loading time. If you want to swap out the hard drive for a second SSD you can easily do that too.
