Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the Aurora R12's powerful graphics card, enabling smooth gameplay at high settings. However, many express concerns regarding the system's cooling capabilities and resulting high temperatures and noise levels during intensive use. The system's overall performance is praised for its ability to handle demanding tasks. While some users find the fan noise noticeable under load, others highlight the excellent performance in gaming.

Get rid of Windows 11 until it is a working O/S

The price is a little too high but when you have to have a PC, you have to sacrifice the extra spend. The PC hardware is OK with the exception of Windows 11 - Windows 11 IS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Automated system updates completely bricked a brand new system! Ubuntu Linux ran like a champ from the get-go (proved the hw is fine). I had to install Windows 10 in order for the PC to function as expected. It's been great since Windows 10. And DELL - What happened to your support portal? ALL updates are limited to .exe files?????? Can't update a (dead OS) system bios using .exe files!!!! Issues: - Dell seems to have dropped the ball in their support portal. It's not the Dell I remember! - MS - Why are you pushing alpha/beta quality software on new hardware?????????? People spend 2k on decent hardware only to run into a dead end because you Windows 11 !!!! At least give the consumer a choice to "upgrade" to Windows 10 when 11 is so bad.

The machine offers great value for the price given the current gpu market. Personally got it for less as it was on sale with a code which made it very hard to beat by building. I found that the PC does run pretty hot, i replaced the air cooler with a small water cooler and added a hest sink for the vrms. Bought two sticks of ram as it come with a single 16gb stick and the same module is sold by dell for 200 so i just bought another pair from bestbuy. Overall handles all my games easily maxxed out on a 1440p screen. I would recommend buying it if youre willing to tinker with it slightly. Easiest way to get a 30 series card wothout overpaying today.

This is a great pc in general. My biggest complaint is that it gets hot quickly and that means it gets loud frequently. You can also not upgrade any parts of the PC which tends to not be the best for some people. Works great though never any serious issues or malfunctions. Can run pretty much any game at a solid 60fps.

Good gaming system overall but as other reviewers mentioned this unit in original spec does get very warm during gaming. This was cost effective (at time of review) to get my hands on a 3080 machine that was in stock and with the minor upgrades still kept it within or lower than average pre-built PC price range and definitely cheaper than building a system with the rare, inflated priced 3080 card. After replacing the CPU fan with a AIO liquid cooling and adding a VRM heat sink which is fairly simple even for me being a non PC builder, the system runs cooler and quieter. Warzone and Halo runs smooth with average 120 FPS on my gsync 1440 monitor. The AIO radiator does get hot but it keeps my CPU around 80s C during intense gaming, before with the CPU fan it was running in the 90s C near the CPU TJ Max of 100 C.

Pros: - Blazingly fast on anything you throw at it - RTX 3080 graphics - whisper quiet when not under load - Appealing design - Perfect host for Vive Pro VR system Cons: - Loud under load. Cools down quickly when load removed, but fans are simply too loud. - Bloatware! Dizzying array of overlapping and redundant Dell apps that add little to no value. - Bloatware apps don't work particularly well. Windows update was flagging out of date drivers when Dell was saying all was well. - Windows 11. Ugh.

I bought this at the end of 2021 only wanting the 3080 inside. I do not regret my decision. I never turned it on, just got it and gutted it. The card is a reference 3080. I removed the fans first thing and slapped a water block on it. I game with it and mine with it to help pay it off. It overclocks and under powers very well. I love the card. The case was really annoying to take apart, and I couldn't see myself enjoying it. Way too cramped inside, air flow would've been terrible or very precise. The major components sold really well. Ive already paid off a majority of the pc with sales from them. I did test the Power supply though. Its very loud when the 3080 is demanding power. Mouse and keyboard are nothing special, but if I could've customized the order to not include them to save money, I would have. This is about as honest of a review as I can leave. I bought this PC for the card just like everyone else who bought this pc.

Dissipointed for a $2,200 computer. Runs hot and loud! Still a competitive computer for the current market, unfortunately. +Case and accessibility +3080 GPU +Alienware Command Center (still need afterburner) +availability +heats my house in the winter -price -runs hot and loud -poor gaming performance (limited testing) Halo Infinate cannot keep 60FPS in 4k on ultra, and has terrible frame drop. (LG 48" C1). Long story short, my new xbox series x runs halo infinate better. Maybe I need more time to adjust some settings. I have not had time to test other games, but it will be useless if it cannot push higher & consistant FPS in ultra 4k. The computer runs very hot and the fans are extremely loud. 78-80C GPU temps on Halo Ultra. After making some recommended changes, gpu temps in the 67-70 range. After the dissipointment with gaming performance, I tried mining ethereum and vram hit 104C instantly mining 81MH/s. After recommended fixes, vram came down to 82C at 99MH/s (Non-LHR). Had errors completing performance benchmarks which was also annoying.

First thing is the memory cooling issue. Is does get hot. It is also loud. It is a fast gaming PC not sure why Dell didn't put a liquid cooler in this version which would solved alot of the heating issues. Meh. Other than than than it everything else is good.

I'm not quite sure why this has some negative reviews. I bought purely to fly Microsoft Flight Simulator and it's really the first computer that plays the simulator flawlessly. I'm probably a pretty average daily user and have had no issues. My son also plays a couple of games on here and no issues. I was a little concerned about the reviews of the machine getting hot and not doing what it was supposed to do. I play the flight simulator sometimes for hours on end and haven't had a single issues, it's a ton of fun. I didi have to update the drivers out of the box for MSFSM to run, but figured that out pretty quickly. I know there a lot of "experts" out there but the peeps that built this machine have been doing it a while and seem to have created yet another great machine. I have this paired with a 49 inch ultra widescreen monitor and it's amazing!! If you're a normal day to day user / gamer, this machine rocks!! I'd guess if you play games 24/7 or mining for coins, you might have to make some modifications.

It performa pretty well but the VRAM gets well into 102 degrees celsius with fans on 100 and even external fans pointed at the vents. I wouldnt recommend unless upur are desperate or capable of modding then it should be too big of an issue. Otherwise you would be worries about longevity with heavy use as a gpu that could boil water its so hot may not have a life as long as it could if it ran cooler

      Hi Electricalprogression,

We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your review. We are truly sorry for the overheating issue you are experiencing with your Alienware Aurora R12 Gaming Desktop. Feedback like yours helps us improve our current and future products. Below I have provided troubleshooting instructions with the full article that can help resolve overheating issues. I have also given you a link to a video that can help as well.

Here are the steps to help resolve your issue:
      1. Make sure the system is in a well-ventilated area.
      2. Use laptops on flat surfaces to improve airflow. Hard table tops are recommended and avoid using any type of cloth or any other soft material under the laptop.
      3. For desktop systems make sure there is enough clearance around the system to allow the air to flow. If the system is in an enclosure try to move it to a more ventilated area for testing.
      4. Check that the air vents are clean and that there is nothing obstructing them.
      5. Update your system BIOS to the latest available in Dell Support Site.
      6. You can reset your BIOS settings to undo any changes that could be causing the system to overheat.
      7. Disable NVIDIA G SYNC and run a stress test using SupportAssist.
      8. Navigate to the Thermal Controls in the Alienware Command Center, which is found under the Fusion tab. There you can adjust thermal control of system fans and change the status of active venting. This link is for the Alienware Command Center Quick Guide, where you can find a video to explain how to use the Manual Mode for the Thermal Controls: https://dell.to/3nZtYDm.
