I actually bought an open box after watching a lot of YouTube videos about it. This thing is a chimney. It came with a very weak CPU air cooler and was running at 212 degrees F. I slapped a $40 CPU AIO and the voltage regulator board cooler that comes on some models and now I have a very good and fast computer for still less than any other model I looked at with similar specs. CPU now runs at less than 150 degrees under high load.

Short version: Don’t buy if you don’t want to upgrade the system. Out of the box, if the CPU is air cooled, runs like hot garbage. Ventilation is no bueno. Purchased this system knowing I had to do some upgrades. Added 120mm AIO, added two 120mm front intake fans, upgraded to dual channel memory and applied thermal paste to VRAM cover on the 3080. It now runs great with really good thermals. All the upgrades have numerous videos online.

      Hello Gees10,

We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your review. We are truly sorry for the overheating you are experiencing with your Alienware Aurora R12 Gaming Desktop. Feedback like yours helps us improve our current and future products. Below I have provided troubleshooting instructions with the full article that can help resolve overheating issues. We also recommend making sure your BIOS is up to date on your system. I have given you a link to the Drivers and Downloads Page for your PC, so you can check for and do any applicable updates.

Here are the steps to help resolve your issue:
      1. Make sure the system is in a well-ventilated area.
      2. Use laptops on flat surfaces to improve airflow. Hard table tops are recommended and avoid using any type of cloth or any other soft material under the laptop.
      3. For desktop systems make sure there is enough clearance around the system to allow the air to flow. If the system is in an enclosure try to move it to a more ventilated area for testing.
      4. Check that the air vents are clean and that there is nothing obstructing them.
      5. Update your system BIOS to the latest available in Dell Support Site.
      6. You can reset your BIOS settings to undo any changes that could be causing the system to overheat.
      7. Disable NVIDIA G SYNC and run a stress test using SupportAssist.
      8. Navigate to the Thermal Controls in the Alienware Command Center, which is found under the Fusion tab. There you can adjust thermal control of system fans and change the status of active venting. This link is for the Alienware Command Center Quick Guide, where you can find a video to explain how to use the Manual Mode for the Thermal Controls: https://dell.to/3nZtYDm.

Are you ready for this? 1) The desktop does NOT include water cooling, as shown in the pictures on the website. Thus, even for a simple benchmark, the CPU will throttle down due to heat. The CPU cooler is the stock Intel cooler, in no way able to deal with the heat. 2) There is only 1, yes 1, available expansion slot. Want to add a sound card and another GPU, nope! There is no room. 3) The power supply literally sits on top of the CPU, not allowing heat to dissipate. 4) There are 2 and only 2 available SATA slots for drives. There are 0 available M.2 slots. 5) There is only 1 stick of memory, so single-channel, of HyperX. The timings are horrible at 52. Should be more like 42. Run away ...

Purchased the Dell desktop with a 3080 to replace a laptop with a 1660. Unfortunately, the Dell cpu runs at 85-100C and the gpu gets lower fps than my laptop. I'm playing games such as CS and Valorant...not highly intensive. I'm getting 120 to 160 frames per second on the 3080 card at 1440p resolution output via display port. For the premium paid, I did not receive premium frames or satisfaction.

It is Not worth for the price of $2200, The PC runs too hot. The RTX 3080 included is very hot and too loud. MOBO is Z490 not Z590, which is expected at the price. RAM is Hyper X but CL 22. PSU is placed nearly CPU and GPU, increasing temperatures of system. This is fault design of Dell, so the PC suffer a lot of thermal throttle while playing game or heavy processing data: Black screen or frozen Apps.

Overheats on the CPU without the liquid cooling. I thought it was liquid cooled at the time of purchase. Who runs a 8core processor without liquid cool? This is a good looking Desktop with a cool design and features but it does get quite loud and hot due to the limited space for airflow and the fact that this particular build is not liquid cooled (as shown in the pictures when I purchased this). But it is a good way to get your hands on a 3080 in this current market if you need a new PC. And you can upgrade to liquid cooling yourself for not much more $ by following some Youtube videos. But the 3080 just gets so hot anyway, hard to fault Dell entirely.

Good gaming desktop, temps can be high while gaming, so I would recommend purchasing an AIO for this system. This PC is great value if you intend on doing your own upgrades. You will need to do a water cooler for the CPU and add ram as well as more fans. Once you do that it is a great pc. But without the upgrades if you plan on playing AAA titles like Warzone you will not get good fps. After doing all the updates and tinkering with the settings the best I could muster with the current build was 81 FPS which is unacceptable for the price. If you plan on doing the upgrades yourself it would be worth it potentially.
