Overall, the positive feedback on performance and aesthetics outweighs the negative comments regarding the hard drive.

The bottom line, buy it.
If you're in the market for a "gaming" PC your search is over. With this set up, fresh out of the box I was able to run ALL major AAA titled games at high to ultra settings while maintaining cool, calm and collective GPU/CPU temps. Not only was I able to run the games without freezing or stuttering but I am able to do it while browsing the internet, watching YouTube, downloading other games in the background and streaming music from Spotify. The ability to multitask whilst gaming is invaluable. This Aurora R6 handles it all so beautifully. If you need something that laughs at every game thrown at it then this is the computer for you. I originally purchased my Aurora R6 at the end of November 2017 and needless to say after 30 days of testing I'm impressed.
My model in particular came equipped with an Intel Core i7700 Processor, 16 GB DDR4 2400 Ram a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 GPU, water cooling and the cutting edge 14GB Intel Optane coupled with 1000GB hard drive. Oh boy does this thing move. Out of the box set up was a breeze. Dell/Alienware does a great job loading this beast with the bare essentials, no bloatware!
At first I was really skeptical purchasing a "pre-built" Rig, I've heard the horror stories but after doing hours upon hours of research I decided to jump out of the plane and snag this Aurora R6. I'm so happy that I did. I thoroughly tested this PC for roughly 3 weeks with its factory components. I ran it through every single benchmark/stress test out there. The R6 consistently scored well above average. Now lets talk about upgradability. The fact of the matter is when you're serious about your gaming you are constantly swapping in new goodies to reach that sweet spot between graphical beauty and FPS the Aurora has to be the easiest PC I have ever upgraded.
After weeks of being able enjoy the performance of this machine at 1440p I decided it was time to enter the 4k gaming realm. As the PC comes configured don't expect to play Battlefield or any other title at 2160 60fps. This is due to being held back by that nifty GTX 1070. However if you have the extra money to spend slap a GTX 1080ti in this bad boy and you're good to go but be careful 11.5 inches is the GPU maximum length.
After using a Philips screw driver to remove the single screw holding the access panel unlock latch in place I was able to perform a completely "tool less" GPU upgrade. Once the screw was removed I stored it with the included Alienware resource CD for safe keeping. There was no need to reinstall the screw as the latch that it holds in place securely locks and unlocks the access panel. It took me roughly 2 minutes to pop the access panel off and replace the factory GTX 1070 with the EVGA 1080ti SC2 I upgraded to. I have to say the new GPU took this PC to a whole different level.
Initially I was worried about the possibility of "bottle neck" with the combination of the i7700 and 1080ti, low and behold there was no reason to be concerned. About 14 seconds after locking the access panel back into place my Aurora was fired up with the desktop staring me right in the face. Thanks to the factory 14gb Optane drive automatically cache/writing my daily actions my 1TB HDD now hurdles through boot like a high end SSD. I never thought I'd see the day an HDD could do that, thanks Intel!
After installing the appropriate drivers for my new 1080ti I launched Battlefield 1 on ULTRA on my Non G-Sync 75hz overclocked Samsung UE590 28" 4K Monitor, WOW! At this point I was blown away. With V-SYNC enabled my Aurora was now filling my eyes with solid 60 FPS 4K glory. I must admit the system did run a little louder but I did not experience any "bottle neck" from the i7 7700 or overheating. The system ran cool the entire 6 hour gaming session, again while surfing the internet, browsing YouTube and steaming music from Spotify. What more could you ask for? The Aurora R6 provides a high end computing experience without sacrificing your wallet to the gods.
In the end I decided to purchase the 3418DW QWHD from Alienware to pair with this Aurora. The added feature of G-Sync at curved 3440 x 1440p 120hz, in my opinion showcases this system and all its glory equipped with the upgraded EVGA 1080ti SC2. Every game at ULTRA every time. Please take my money!
CONS: Reason for 4 Stars
The factory 1TB HDD Crashed 2 days before writing this review I could of just been unlucky and got a faulty HDD. However, Dell Technical Support was easily reachable, they provided me with a replacement HDD and an in home visit from a technician FREE of charge to replace my hard drive and OS.
The reason this is a CON is because technical support was reluctant to do any sort of in depth trouble shooting over the phone. They were more eager to replace the drive and send a tech out then they were to help me get my system up and running in that very moment. Being an engineer I was thankfully able to fix my hard drive (I lost all of my data) that same evening after a few hours.
Customers who purchase these sorts of products don't want to wait DAYS to enjoy them when something goes wrong, especially if they don't have to. I'm up and running again, no thanks to a replacement HDD or tech as they STILL HAVE NOT arrived to fix what was 2 days ago an issue.

I got the machine open box, and I know it's always a risk, but I took a chance. It worked good at first, but then it would freeze up and shut down randomly so I had to make the return.

I purchased an open box version of this PC while it was on sale and got a great deal. Shipping was fast but the packaging was disappointing (but functional). It arrived with the graphics card and the Intel Optane card disconnected with the Optane card taped the graphics card. I reconnected the graphics card but the screw to mount the Optane memory card was missing so I grabbed one from my old PC. After starting the PC, I verified all the parts are correct (it has a liquid cooler on the CPU, which is an unexpected upgrade). It appeared WIN10 was reset which leads me to believe Best Buy inspected this unit. I've tested this unit on a handful of AAA games and it performs great. The HDD + Optane is pretty fast, I only really felt it slowing me down on the installs (I could also hear the HDD spin up). I'll likely add an SSD for the OS in the future.

I bought this computer mostly for video editing with Adobe Premiere. I was originally leaning toward an AMD processor and video card, but then I read that there are certain aspects of Nvidia cards that make them work better with Premiere. When I saw this on sale last week for $1400 and an open box available for $1189 close to home, I couldn't turn it down. Then, as I left the store, I noticed another price tag on the box for $1105, so I got the price adjustment for that and saved even more! For video editing with the Adobe suite, this computer has handled everything I've thrown at it without a problem. It's also great for games. Logging in to Xbox Live and seeing a couple Play Anywhere games available, I downloaded them and ran some comparisons. It was nice seeing "We've detected that Ultra settings are best for this setup" when booting up Forza Horizon 3 and I can max everything out on Shadow of War as well. This computer runs whisper quiet as well, actually having liquid cooling instead of the air cooling listed in the description. It's more subtle than other Alienware computers as well, which is nice. The expandability features are nice as well, and, once the price of graphics cards go back to normal, I plan on getting another GTX1070 and an SLI bridge and really cranking up the power as well as installing additional RAM to bring it up to 32gbs. And the Intel Optane Memory, that stuff is incredible! This computer has a 1tb platter drive in it and most platter drives are fairly slow to boot up, but with the Optane, it's at most 15 seconds from off to logged in which is insane! Overall, I'm beyond happy with this purchase, especially for the price ($780 out the door thanks to gift cards and the open box price adjustment) and would highly recommend this to anyone!

When it works

I've had the system for a number of months now and a problem has cropped up. The Alienware Command Center is not functioning. I have spent quite a few hours with Dell Support, including their engineering department. The first solution was a bad chip on the mother board so it was replaced. Problem resurfaced, then the only thing that would help (according to Dell engineering) was to flush the system and start over, this was done and in about a week the problem was back. The first level of support at Dell seems to be interested in finding a solution to the problem. After talking with Dell again today I understand that they are planning to replace the motherboard AGAIN. In addition I happened to be talking with some contractors when they tried to call me today and they ARCHIVED my report, I think they needed to close the report.
The saga continues.
