This monitor is amazing. The images are so crisp, it is unbelievable. I thought that I needed a 4k monitor for gaming, but anything less than 40" looks the same as far as I can tell after comparing. 1080p with a high refresh rate looks stunning. The 1ms response time make this an ideal monitor for competitive gaming. I didn't know if a gaming monitor would work well as a daily use monitor, and it does. The size of this monitor is great for split windows so you can work on multiple documents at a time without the need for multiple monitors. This monitor performs well, looks cool, has a handy light on the backside for some soft ambient lighting, and I also appreciate that it came with all of the cables I could need.

    25" is the 1080P limit

The aesthetics of the monitor are nice, especially the stand. Fortunately, this monitor is VESA compatible therefore I put it on a monitor arm. This gaming monitor is ideal for those who have limited desk space, want accurate color reproduction, and want the IPS viewing angles with no sacrifice (if you think 1080P isn’t a sacrifice). At first I didn’t know how I would like this 25” 1080P monitor since I’ve had 27” IPS 2k monitors, as well as 34” ultra wide IPS 2k monitors. The 27” had a refresh rate of 144hz while the 34” had a 120 hz refresh rate and the 25” Alienware comes in at a whopping 240 hz refresh rate! The biggest drawback my 27” and 34” IPS gaming monitors was that the refresh rates where around 3ms. The Alienware gives you all of the IPS goodness with a refresh rate of 240 hz AND 1ms response time. That response time does impact your game play in FPS more than going from 120hz to 240hz. However, this bad boy gives both but at the cost of it being 1080P resolution. Because I use my monitors for gaming and for work, I prefer my monitors to have the following: -120hz and above refresh rate since I play FPS games -Has to be IPS for the viewing angles and color reproduction -Response time has to be as fast as possible -I prefer 27” monitors and above -2k resolution As you can see, this monitor doesn’t hit two of my preference items, but I still enjoy it. The reason is that I think 25” is the upper limit for a 1080P monitor, while 27” HAS to be 2k. Viewing spreadsheets and other documents aren’t as nice in 1080P as they are in 2K. Again, it’s a sacrifice that I am willing to make for IPS with 1ms response times.

      NEEJ,

Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear that this happened with your screen. Here are some tips that may help with the burn-in screen image that you're experiencing:

"Stuck" images can be removed by "exercising" the LCD pixels to bleed off the residual capacitive charge. This can most easily be accomplished by using a random pattern screen saver that changes the screen image repeatedly. The time required to clear the stuck image can vary widely (minutes, hours, days) depending on the panel technology and the severity of the stuck image. You can read the full troubleshooting article here: https://dell.to/2Ql1oxD.

If you need additional assistance you can always reach out to Dell's Technical Support Team here: http://dell.to/2sH7Qlm.

I ordered three of these after seeing one in person and checking the reviews, everything looked awesome! But they are the most finicky monitors I've ever owned! Sometimes they go blank for a few seconds nonstop, I turn them off and back on and then they're good. It's like playing whack a mole with them, and they're great when I get all 3 working. I shut everything down? Time to get them right again!

Setup was really simple and quick. A feature that I liked immediately was FreeSync and its counter-part G-Sync. Usually, most gaming monitors offer just one or the other, which is a big issue if you decide to change your graphics (video) card to NVidia when your monitor supports AMD or vice versa, but this Alienware offers both so you don’t have to worry about compatibility. The settings give you the option of changing response time to fast, super-fast or extreme. I set it for extreme because I like instant response. Well, after playing for a while, I switched back to super-fast and I actually noticed a little sharper image when something was moving very quickly on the screen. Maybe it was just my eyes but after going back and forth multiple times, I though super-fast is the right setting for me. The 240Hz refresh rate is quickly noticed when playing high speed games. If you’re not convinced how great that is, just play a game for half an hour on a 60Hz and you’ll never want to go with anything other than 240Hz although anything above 120Hz will probably meet the need of all but the hard core competitive gamers. Just remember that your video card needs to support that refresh rate if you want to take advantage of it. The settings also gives you a comfort mode for decreased blue light, which is the mode that you should be using at night, whether you’re gaming or just using your computer. Multiple researches have shown that that kind of light is bad for your sleep pattern if you go to bed within an hour or two after being exposed to it. I loved all the features but what really amazed me was that with all those settings on, the videophile in me couldn’t but enjoy the black depth on this monitor. IPS on a gaming monitor is just great, giving you not only good depth of black but also great colors no matter the angle. That’s amazing for games or watching good-quality videos as the scenes give you a cinematic feeling. Very nice! It has four USB 3.0 connections. I wish half of those ports were USB-C but it meets most of my needs. The RGB at the back of the stand and monitor gives it a cool look. I rarely use a monitor in portrait mode but it can easily be set to that position. Was there anything not to like about this monitor? Not Much. If I could fix something, that would be the stand. It is heavy, which is a good thing to keep the monitor stable, but it takes too much room. Luckily, my desk is very wide but I can see that being a problem for most people. Other than that, I am sold. It is a great gaming monitor.

1 ms (gray to gray) in extreme mode, 25” (24.5”) 1920x1080 240 Hz max IPS display is amazing. This monitor is one of the most advanced and well-built monitors I have had the pleasure of using. G-SYNC and FreeSync compatible. 2 HDMI inputs and 1 DisplayPort, 1x USB 3.0 upstream port and 2x USB 3.0 downstream ports. Battery charging 1.2 capability. Height, rotation, swivel, and tilt. Built in lighting system. The power button, back Alienware logo and the stand provide several modes of RGB lighting. Includes 1 HDMI cable, 1 DisplayPort cable and 1 USB 3.0 upstream cable. 25” is actually a bit small for my preferences but is actually better suited for 1920x1080 than a 27” monitor. I prefer the 27” monitors to be at least a 2K resolution. Even if you don’t have the horsepower to run games at 240 fps, you owe it to yourself to set the refresh rate at its highest. Even swimming around in a web browser or just moving your mouse around the desktop is a joy to behold, everything is so smooth. Recommend downloading and installing the monitor driver here: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/dell-aw2521hfl-monitor/drivers and setting your display to 240 Hz under the Advanced Display settings. Also recommend following the diagrams for connecting cables and using the cable management system.

There has always been a tug of war when picking a new gaming monitor. There is mostly two choices for gamers: TN or IPS. With TN monitors you get affordability and high refresh rates, while giving up viewing angles and image quality. With an IPS monitor you get higher costs with superior image quality; however, the technology was limited by low refresh rates. What this monitor achieves is something that is rarely achievable. It takes the best parts of both and combines it. This is a relatively affordable, high refresh rate, great image quality monitor. Finally, an IPS with high refresh rates. Alienware decided to just go to town and push 240hz out of this new technology. The monitor is bright, has a good system menu, and top notch quality. This monitor also supports VESA mounts, and that is how I decided to mount my monitor. Even so, I tried out the stand for the point of this review and I loved it. The arm that holds the monitor in place has a very bright LED “halo” that goes around the back. This produces an awesome color onto your wall that spills out of the edges of the monitor. It looks fantastic. Overall, this monitor is top notch quality, and is quite honestly the best value in the gaming monitor market right now. You are getting IPS with high framerate below $400. That to me is a gamechanger.

The Alienware AW2521HFl is a fantastic monitor for competitive gaming. The 240Hz refresh rate combined with a 1ms response time delivers buttery-smooth gameplay, especially for fast-paced shooters. The IPS panel provides great color accuracy and wide viewing angles, making it excellent for immersive visuals without sacrificing speed. However, a slight defect after 3 years of use
