Just the right amount of curve

AW3418DW This has been sold out for a least a couple weeks as I've been shopping and reading the tech reviews. Those reviews steered me to this monitor. Just this Monday it was on sale again at the reduced price. I quickly bought it. 5 min later it was again sold out. It was delivered in two days form Ohio. Better than amazon :) As most of us we have to rely on a review to be able to choose a product as these are hard to find first hand in the store. My one concern was the curvature but I find it to be just right. I was hesitant as it has more curve then then the others in it's class but it's a good thing as your immersed. I'm currently waiting on my PC to be built so it's hooked up to our older PC. Cant wait to see it with a 1070 TI card. No bad pixels or bleed so I'm very happy.

Got this when it was on sale at $1,000. Don't pay higher than this, it regularly goes on sale. First unit had an issue where it would go to sleep and not turn back on. Hence the 4 star rating. I RMA'd it through Dell and they did an advanced RMA, overnighted another one before I shipped the old one back. No questions asked, awesome service from Dell. Once I got the second one in, it was perfect. Overclocked to 120hz without issue. Runs flawlessly. A suggestion, don't buy this unless you're running a GTX1080/1080Ti or better(2xxx series). Yes, the monitor has G-Sync which makes less than 60fps more tolerable but anything lower than those GPU's will struggle to maintain the appropriate framerate. I don't do any picture/video work, can't say how it will fare for that but you really shouldn't be looking at gaming monitors for production work in the first place. Overall, very satisfied with the purchase. Only Ultrawide on the market with a native 100hz refresh rate and the ability to get to 120hz.

    Great gaming monitor

This monitor is amazing for gaming, but not so good for other usage. Pros: - The monitor works great at 120hz - Very little ghosting - G-Sync is expensive, but great at framerates less than what the monitor supports (make sure that fast sync is on for when your framerate exceeds 100/120) - Great response time Cons: - Curve is great for gaming, but not good for general usage. - The top of the monitor is VERY clearly dim, and it's obvious when browsing. It's annoying. - Obvious yellow back light bleed on the bottom left of the screen.

Best Gaming Monitor on the market!

Pros: Very smooth performance even at 100Hz, crisp colors (nicer than the 4yr old 4k monitor it replaced), the RGB accents are a nice touch and are subtle but awesome Solid quality, stand quality, overall quality, etc. - No stand wobble Lots of customization capabilities/profiles 3-year warranty from Dell (that's fantastic!) Gsync --- Amazing smoothness that I've never experienced before! DisplayPort cable included (which it should be included for the price, lol) In most games, 3440x1440 is just as nice as 4k. I feel that in most games with 21:9 3440x1440 is the "sweet spot". Nice viewing angles all around, and you have a lot of adjustment to get the perfect angle, whether up/down or left/right. Cons: Price The bezel around the screen is easy to smudge with fingerprints I wish it was able to have 144hz, though 100/120 is really nice for most games. It does take some getting used to, coming from a non 21:9/curved display, some people have said they've gotten motion sick Color profile out of the box can use some tweaking (though when adjusted, it's really nice. There are videos on youtube that show how to make the colors really nice!) My thoughts: Excellent monitor for the price, though I wish it wasn't so expensive (though it is to be expected with Dell's "Alienware" line). The colors are fantastic and much better than the 4k monitor it replaced. Mine didn't have any IPS bleed or dead pixels. In another video I saw, it had some color issues up top when web surfing though mine doesn't have the same issue. The warranty that comes with it is fantastic. 3 years when other manufacturers are 1-2 max. I did opt for the extra warranty on it for the price I paid so that I can get the most out of my money if there is an issue (which I don't anticipate but it's better to be prepared). The quality of the monitor is top-notch and so is the stand, it's very solid with no monitor/stand wobble. The RGB accents are a nice touch and are not over-bearing which some monitors can be. I wish for the price that it was 144hz, though for most games 100-120 is more than enough and depending on the card you run (1080ti) in my case a lot of the games may not max out at 120fps on ultra even with my i9-9900k. Worth the money (especially if you can find it on sale for $799 or thereabouts as I did.)

Great for gaming, not so good for office

I use my computer a lot, for web browsing, office applications, photography and gaming. I was planning to buy two monitors for multitasking but I decided to try this ultrawide curved monitor instead. It works very well for gaming. I have an nVidia 2070 graphics card and it has no problem running all games at high quality, overclocked to 120 hz. The experience is more immersive and realistic. On the other hand, the larger screen requires me to turn my eyes and head to view the sides and move the mouse a lot farther. So, I don't recommend it for competitive shooters where milliseconds count. For office applications, the wide screen has plenty of space to run two applications side by side without requiring two monitors. The curved IPS screen prevents distortion and light/color shifts at the edges of the screen. However, it is more difficult to read text on a curve, and spreadsheets also become harder to use when the rows are curved. I find myself constantly adjusting the position and size of the windows to optimize viewing and also adjusting the magnification and text size. It is easier to use a single screen that is smaller and does not require adjustments. I think 20 to 24 inches is optimal for office applications. Unless you are doing a lot of multitasking, 34 inches is more trouble than it is worth. Even then, you will probably be happier with two, smaller, flat screens.

    Great Monitor Overall

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I am very particular about my monitors. I have zero/stuck and no dead pixels and very minimal backlight bleeding. Some backlight bleeding in the corners is normal for this type of panel, but it is minimal. The only gripe I have with this panel is if you have power mode safe on. If the computer is still on and sending a signal and your monitor is powered off and you turn your monitor on, the monitor goes into power save mode as it does not detect a signal. Disabling the power save mode fixes this issue. THe monitor does wake up if it goes into sleep mode after so long.

Great color but have major issues

I tried this monitor for gaming and productivity. I use it as a designer and gamer but This model has been everything else beside good. I was impressed with the color of IPS pannel but during gaming at 120hz and 1440p there was screen tearning and sharpness changes occuring everything i move my character in the game (PUBG). I was using 8700K paired with 1080TI (16 gb of ram) but no matter what setting I change. it didnot help. I returned it and am using my 240 hz 1080P 25" alienware monitor which works like a champ. But 34" is a joke for the price. IDK how it got so high rating but this is not ideal for high-end monitors. Please do some research before you but. I checked Microcenter in dallas for this monitor and there were 8 open items which states for itself. People are not happy with this product.

Great for PC not for Xbox

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Fantastic monitor for the PC. If you're buying it for that, which I'm sure the vast majority of people are I have no complaints and would recommend it. If you have a goofy setup like I do with your PC and Xbox together like I do this monitor won't work great. I didn't expect 3440 support but I did expect 2560x1440 with black bars. The monitor will not support that resolution. All you can do is 1080p with black bars on the side, and 120hz will not work. I get this may be a unique setup, and I don't know how hard it is to make a 3440 monitor support 2560, but I would think it's straightforward and this was just an afterthought by the Asus. I will be returning the monitor because in my situation it's not usable.

BEWARE the severe screen flickering issue at 120hz

    Posted .

Beware this model has a severe screen flickering issue at 120hz which makes it unusable at that refresh rate. It's highly documented everywhere: Dell.com Support https://www.dell.com/community/Mo...-p/6113016 https://www.dell.com/community/Mo...-p/6136059 https://www.dell.com/community/Mo...-p/6180481 Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawid..._problems/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawid...lickering/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawid...g_options/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawid...lickering/ YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v1eLJl5VZs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9pekLolTdY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlHdIsmOK_I Red Flag http://forums.redflagdeals.com/de...2196223/8/ I have this model and regret it. Because the issue is so widespread, Dell's new solution is to turn off overclocking (disable a main feature of the monitor) which is ridiculous. If you pay for 120hz, you should get 120hz. The argument that this monitor cannot do 120hz with GSYNC is an excuse to cover up the faulty hardware. If you buy a new monitor with an issue, they will offer a refurbished one as a replacement only after you spend hours with them troubleshooting (the painful process of sending videos of the issue to their agents across the world). Do not buy this monitor until they fix the issue, save your money.

    Bad screen/IPS bleed

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I'm writing this review using my 5 year old Asus IPS 1080p monitor that cost 139.99 with zero screen/IPS bleed. I would expect that a high end monitor that's more than 10 times as expensive would meet the basics of quality control. The first one I ordered had really bad screen bleed in the lower left portion of the screen the second one surpassed that by having it almost entirely around the screen. Maybe you will get a good one maybe you won't, roll the $1,000+ dice if you want. I read the reviews and comments on IPS monitors having this issue in general and have owned IPS panel monitors without this level of screen bleed.

Should have believed bad reviews, Lesson learned.

Worked great for 7 weeks. Call me old fashioned, but if I spend $800 on a new device (DELL HW3418DW monitor) I really don’t want to spend another $50 on a warranty in case my new device fails prematurely. Turns out, I was wrong. Best Buy warranty last for 30 days ($50 for 2 years extended), it took exactly 51 days for my monitor screen to start flickering @120hz. Now, after a long episode with a foreign call center trying to prove there was a problem with said monitor: I’ll get a nice refurbished DELL monitor in its place. Thing is, I didn’t buy a refurbished monitor. I BOUGHT a NEW MONITOR. An $800 new monitor. And it stopped working as advertised in 51 days. Guess I should have listened to the reviews and bought the darn Warranty. Lesson learned. You’ll never get another dime from me DELL. EVER! S

I've had this monitor for 4 years, and now the bottom half of my screen is slightly darker than the top of the screen. I'm a loyal gamer and I've bought many products before, after this experience I will never buy another Alienware monitor again. I recommend looking elsewhere, such as the Samsung G series.
