    Solid mechanical keyboard

I have used quite a few mechanical keyboards over the years and are familiar with the various switches that are out there. My primary keyboard is a Logitech G Pro with their Romer-G tactile switches. I have grown used to the feel of this, but was able to notice how nice the cherry mx red switches were to type on right away. They take less effort to press and aren't quite as loud as my Logitech. The low profile switches and keycaps provide a nice typing experience. I mention this because I had a older Coolermaster mechanical with Cherry MX Brown switches and tall key caps, that thing was almost impossible to type quickly on without a ton of mistakes. This keyboard has a extra USB port for any additional peripherals you might want to plug in. The cable is extra thick because to add the USB port they actually provide you with two USB connectors on the keyboard itself. I suppose this is to allow a dedicated USB connection instead of utilizing a hub which would add latency to whatever was plugged in (for example a mouse). Seems fairly unnecessary but I suppose extra USB ports are never a bad thing. No macro or special keys really on this keyboard, just the volume roller on the top right which feels solid and functions without any additional driver installs. You will have to install drivers if you want to control the RGB. Dells command center software for it is fairly annoying which is what docked a star. The keyboard itself, as long as you like the aesthetics of it, is solid with genuine Cherry MX Red switches nothing really to complain about.

Great Keyboard with a few nuances

I had been wanting a new keyboard for the workplace for a few years now. I had an opportunity to get this keyboard and got it. I spend a decent amount of time each day on the computer. (Desk Job) So far I like it. Using a keyboard for long hours throughout the day can bother my wrists at time. I haven't any issues with comfort since using it. Here are the Pros and Cons. Pros: Backlighting for each key is a really nice option. I don't use the keyboard in the dark but I did turn the lights off to see how it looked. The keys are lit up well and the brightness can be adjusted so it's not too distracting. The keys themselves are well made, it's actually pretty quiet for a mechanical keyboard. The rest of the board is very sturdy and feels like a good quality build, has some weight to it too. Cons: Why can't I choose my Caps Lock and Number Lock keys color when active? If the keyboard is a blue or light blue, the active lock keys don't show up well. The lack of on-screen notification for the lock keys is frustrating. Last, the big scroll wheel at the top right hand corner is useless but I don't have a use for it.

    Simply Impressive

The Alienware - AW510K Wired Mechanical CHERRY MX Low Profile Red Switch Gaming Keyboard with RGB Back Lighting is simply impressive. Fast and responsive mechanical action, comfortable low-profile with 3 levels of height adjustment, and, of course, lots of colors and color schemes. Requires 2 usb connections for the lights, but has a pass-through that makes up for it. Also need the Alienware software in order to set up and customize the lighting. It can be used without the lights as a standard, high-quality keyboard, but it was made to be used with a dedicated gaming PC and that's when it shines. For serious gamers, this is a no-brainer.

    Perfect keyboard all around.

This keyboard is my first official gaming keyboard, so I can't compare it to other ones but I honestly don't need to because this thing looks beautiful paired with my R9 and it complements my gaming station all around. The keys are great and the feedback is ideal for gaming but also for regular computer usage. I found myself playing CoD without issues and then later typed a paper for school equally without any troubles at all. I am in love with this keyboard. Thank you Alienware for making a design that plays and looks great at the same time!

Not what I was hoping for...

I will start by saying I am not a gamer. I do play some casual games, but nothing that would normally be associated with a product like this. There are 2 reasons why I was interested in a gaming keyboard: - Stronger build quality with solid keys and options to adjust for comfort. - The ability to program a keyboard to create shortcuts and macros for what I do spend time doing - graphic design. I have heard and read of people that use more advanced keyboards for this kind of work, and when spending time doing detailed work in Photoshop or Illustrator, I will look for any keyboard shortcut I can to make it easy to switch tools, automate a process, etc. So far, this keyboard, while it is awesome in my first requirement, is lacking in my second requirement. PROS: - Definitely a solid build to this keyboard. Unlike most of the "run of the mill" keyboards you can buy in any office supply store, this keyboard feels sturdy. It's heavier than many of those other keyboards, which helps keep it steady on my desk. - Comfort customizations: This is a low-profile keyboard, and it has three different height adjustments. Between the grip of the pads on the bottom of the keyboard, the weight that steadies it, and the multiple height adjustment, if I never use it for anything but everyday typing, this keyboard is a winner. Makes me wish I had one at work! - The keys have a satisfying "click", yet require little effort to press. It reminds me of the old IBM keyboards, but with much less effort, especially since this has much less height to fully press the key. - This is a beautiful keyboard for the sake of the lighting effect, and it's very sleek looking even if the backlighting is off. While the LED lighting is not a feature I was looking for, I have to admit that the lighting effects in this one are a nice touch. I love not only the endless number of colors and patterns that you can set the keyboard to, but also the dimming effect of the LED's that gives the keyboard the advantage of a backlight, but without being overly distracting. I have it set to a soft blue color and rather dim, and it's just enough to have a nice color and light, but in no way distracts me from the screen. I can also change the color based on the program I am running. CONS: - No calculator key. This is a huge annoyance for me, since I use a calculator all the time. Graphic designers have to do math too! - It's not wireless. Not a big deal to me, and gaming keyboards as a rule are not. However, this may matter to some people. - Alienware Command Center. This is where the keyboard is not meeting me other need - the ability to build custom key combinations. Admittedly, the app is built for customizing the lighting effect of the keyboard (and the mouse if you have one), but I had trouble finding ANY documentation on how to use this app. I'm usually able to figure an app out on my own, but so far, I have not been able to do any of the functions that I have tried to build into the shortcuts or macros. The app is not very intuitive, at least not to someone like me who is not a gamer. I spent over an hour trying different options, programming different functions, and reading and watching videos, and so far have not been able to accomplish anything I tried. If you are an avid gamer and looking for reviews on this keyboard for that purpose, I know my review isn't very helpful in that regard. But if you are new to gaming, or are looking for a keyboard for any of the reasons I mentioned above, consider this keyboard more for the hardware, not the software. I am going to continue to research more about the software for this keyboard, in hopes that I can eventually figure out if any of my goals are possible. However, I'm satisfied with this keyboard for now, since it more than meets my other needs.

I have had this keyboard for a few weeks. I bought online for a pick up order. When I took it out of the box it was smaller than my previous Alienware keyboard. At first I didn't think I was going to like it. After a day or so I really started to like it. I would buy it again.

I love the aesthetic of this keyboard it reminds me of the m17 laptop. It has a good mechanical feel with very low noise for a streamer friendly setup. Its low profile keys makes it have a really good laptop keyboard feel but with a full keyboard size. The braided usb cable has a good quality feel. Overall great keyboard.

Overall high quality, fun to use ans sounds great. Only problem is the longer keys with multiple switches are not in line and slightly offset making the keys hard to replace

I like it mostly, but I believe it could of been better if it was wireless. Not a big deal, but with electronics abilities these days, I would of preferred a wireless version to be available.

Very good value for the money, crisp keys, very responsive and has a nice clack sound but is not super loud due to the low profile switches

    W key

It's great in design and function but the w key breaks off after about 9 mos when used by heavy gamers. This is my second one now.

    Cheap plastic

I literally got this keyboard for "free" with my dell rewards points and it's so bad I would rather use my keychron k4 or just shell out the money for another full sized keyboard, it's completely made of plastic and feels cheap, the spacebar isn't smooth and the overall key feel of the keyboard is terrible. I missed the return window on it so I'm now stuck with it and will try to just sell it off on offerup
