Great powerhouse of a laptop at a reasonable price

Built quality improved over the last years - Everything is still plastic though so I would rate 8/10 I/O - Moving the IO's to the back of the laptop was actually a great move. I felt a little sketchy before I had this but using it now it feels great. I feel I'm ONE USB too short, but ok. 8/10 Screen is great for its size, contrast is great! It's QHD+, 240hz so that's awesome if you don't have a second screen. 9/10 Keyboard feels really solid regarding size, placement and overall quality feel. Same for the trackpad. 7/10 Sound quality is really poor (at least with my unit) but not that I would be using that a lot, I mostly use Headsets anyway. 5/10 Now what REALLY matters: Processor - The new R9 7845HX is ABSURD! It trumps the i9's of latest 13th gen. Really good power house with good value to it. Thermals are good for something powerful like this - thanks to Alienware's cooling solution. 10/10 GPU - I got the 4080 version and I couldn't have made a better choice. This is WAAAY better than the 4070 by about 20% and dominates last gen 3080Ti for about 25%. It's 12GB GDDR6X is also a great improvement. It is AWESOME without being overpriced like the 4090. 10/10 RAM - Being one of the new line of laptops with DDR5 is awesome, I just feel like the default 16GB is on the low side....it should come with at least 32GBs (I already did the upgrade myself, but still...) - 8/10 SSD - Didn't perform any specific tests or anything because the nuances on a daily use are pretty much unnoticeable. M.2 SSD slot with 1TB of space, pretty standard. 9/10 Battery - You're a lunatic if you think this power house has a good battery....It's size is good but come on....no one will use this outside of the outlet.... 9/10 Overall - 8/10 If this came with a metal chassis and with 32GB ram from the factory it would be 10/10. Really glad I got this over the Intel version though.

Great laptop but high temps & AMD driver issues

Great laptop for gaming, max out AAA games with Ultra settings at 2k resolution and over 160 fps. Has Mux switch ,2 open m.2 slots and upgradable ram. The cons for this laptop is high temps. Yes Intel runs hot but this AMD CPU goes to another level hits 100 to 101 degrees Celsius constantly gaming. Also AMD driver issues for integrated graphics cards. Blue screen constantly on boot up. Did wipe and restore, dell trouble shooter and clean driver install same issues. Went with dell only drivers still there. If I disable integrated and do Nvidia only, then issue is gone but so is battery life. Just swapped it out for Intel alienware m16 Intel core i9 at Best buy. If it has AMD be prepared for high temps and driver instability do yourself a favor and buy the Intel model of this. It is amazing.

Yup, the Concord Jet was flippin awesome, but had a few major flaws, crashes and was a bit to loud and expensive to keep around. Thats this baby right here. It absolutley rips through 'em vidja games but an efficient laptop, nay PC, it is not.. exactly. So lets get this straight. There are people this would be perfect for. If you plan on leaving it plugged in on AC aaaand have an already high aptitude for tech aaand have the patience of... a very patient thing; then you can probably tolerate this machine, because it is a beast (cant stress that enough). Based on my research this would preform close to a desktop with a 4070 gpu, so yeah pretty cool. Want upgradeability? You got it. Fast nvme SSD? Here! The screen is also shockingly tolerable for an IPS panel. The speakers are ok, they get loud but they don't sound all that good. Battery life doesnt really exist. Ive been browsing the web unplugged this morning and it seems like itll tap out arround 2-3 hours max with a reasonable effort to save juice: RGB disabled on keyboard, the back rear facing RGB enabled because its awesome, AWCC set to balanced, windows on power efficiency mode and screen set to MAX brightness because I'm not in a dungeon. This will probably remain a capable machine for quite a few years to come, just as long as it can survive its own bugs. Buggy BIOS, buggy MUX switch, even buggy RGB. Yes it runs hot but that's how dell configured it, so if they believe it'll last then it might. But you also dont want to drop over 2k for something that "might last", do you?

It is really fast, plays games as youd expect. Feels nice quality wise. Light weight for a gaming computer. However battery life is bad even just sitting idle youre lucky to get an hour unplugged. Its not very efficient at cooling. Will max out the CPUs 100 degree max playing simple games without even using overclocking featurss. But most of that is as to be expected for what it is

In summary, the Alienware m16 lives up to its promise in speed and build quality, delivering impressive FPS in games like TCM at max settings. The user-friendly command center meets my needs, and the sturdy build, while a bit heavy, adds to its durability. The larger power cord is a minor inconvenience, and though not ideal for daily lugging, it's manageable. Regrettably, the laptop falls short in battery, exhibiting a less-than-ideal battery life, This aspect becomes particularly pronounced for users who value portability and require extended usage periods without access to a power outlet. While the price justifies most aspects, the battery troubles prevent a perfect 5-star rating.

Decent on a sale, but the device has POOOOOOOR battery life. We are talking 4 hours on 60hz battery saver mode and DGPU disabled. and if you dare run it on 120Hz on battery you might if you're lucky get an hour running youtube, probably less. The charger weighs more than my entire backpack and everything in it, probably 5-10 pounds, and I basically can't carry this thing around in any sort of backpack if I want to transport it due to the painful amount of weight. If you plan on using this as a portable desktop then it's alright, but if portability of any kind is your idea, then forget it. The design is unfortunately pretty hideous. Maybe as a 13 year old this would appeal to you, but as a grown adult RGBs, sharp edges and gamery crap is pretty unappealing and I can't possibly use this in any student or office setting without people getting the impression that I live in my moms basement and only drink monster energy.

It's important for us to hear about inconsistencies in our products for consideration of future development. Battery operating time varies depending on operating conditions and can significantly reduce under certain power-intensive conditions. a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
      b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
      c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off.
      d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.

I love the equipment in this computer but it just always has small issues. Like when I’m gaming it will open up a window on its own. It will sometimes if in sleep mode won’t unlock and I have to restart it. Battery life sucks but that’s a given considering it’s a power house of a machine. It can run anything but it can be a bit buggy for the price I would probably shoot for something else if it’s on sale maybe it’s worth it!

Purchased this device 4x and had to return 4x because of wifi issues. The Qualcomm wifi 6E cards are garbage. I'm not sure why Dell consistently skimps out on quality hardwrare fotheir flagship alienware gaming device. Performed a wipe of the device because Dell loves to fill up their machines with unnecessary and useless bloatware. Had to download all of the drivers from a different device because the wifi did not work. Once installed all necessary drivers, it took forever to download and install windows and dell updates. Restarted the devoce and thats when the problems happened. Wifi speeds were extremely slow. I pay for 1.2 gigs of download speed and this was not even breaking 10 megs. Checked on a different devoce and all was notmal. Plugged in the device because the battery was low and noticed the wifi was notmal. Unplugged again as a test and back garabage speeds. Contacted Dell and of course they have the worst tech support. Most of them dont know anything and their suggestion was to send it in for servicing. No troubleshooting, no suggestions on how to fix, nada! Only answer was to send a brand new device for servicing . I said no way. This piece of junk going right back to Best Buy. I ended up googling the issue and according to Reddit, this garbage qualcomm wifi card on these devices are basically setup to run at 100% on battery power and basically cut the speed when off of battery to save battery consumption which is unheard of. What if im at the airport and dont have access to a power outlet? Im stuck with slow wifi speeds because sell decided to put a setting in order to save battery life? Unbelievable. Anyways tried to adjust some power settings reddit advised but nothing worked. I thought about switching out the wifi catd to an intel wifi 6E NGW AX410 but not sure if this would have carried over. Not worth the hassle in my opinion. Also these qualcomm wifi cards are complete garbage. Dell needs to do better on their $2700 mid ranged gaming laptop. I would stay far away from this piece of junk. Better options ouit there.

This is a solid gaming laptop. I bought this to replace my previous 17-inch Alienware laptop that was starting to show its age. The old laptop still works perfectly well, but demands are greater now and it isn't keeping up. The laptop came pretty well equipped, but I added some upgrades right away. It's usually more cost effective to buy with lower specs and upgrade what you can, and that was definitely the case here. In the AMD model, there are two additional SSD slots that you can use. I swapped out the original SSD with a 2 TB Samsung 990 Pro, added a second 2 TB Samsung 990 Pro, and installed a Dogfish 1 TB SSD in the open 2230 slot. This increased my storage to 5 TB, and the Samsung SSDs benchmarked much faster than the OEM drive. I also increased the RAM to 64GB. I do things other than gaming on this, so having the extra RAM helps. Did I need 64GB? Probably not, but it wasn't that expensive and the computer could take it, so why not? I usually have this hooked up to a 49" OLED monitor running at 5,120 x 1,440 resolution with 240Hz, and this laptop can drive those pixels without any problem at all. The battery life on this isn't great, but it is still a lot better than my old Alienware laptop ever got. I don't usually play games on battery power, and this laptop will usually run for 2-3 hours on battery if you're not gaming. Not great, but my old laptop would only last around an hour even when the battery was brand new. The charging brick is huge and heavy. You can carry this thing around in a bag, but I wouldn't want to have to lug it around vey much. One of the reasons why the battery lasts longer in this is because of the Optimus feature which lets you switch between integrated graphics and the Nvidia graphics. For desktop use, it will try to use the AMD graphics and only use the Nvidea when it needs to. Currently, this seems to be a bit buggy when using an external monitor. Sometimes when it switches from one mode to the other, the external monitor will blank for a second or it might show a jumbled pixelated screen. It's not as visible on the laptop screen, but sometimes you will see a flash when it switches from one mode to the other. You can prevent this from happening by locking the video to either the integrated graphics or the dedicated one. I usually keep it on integrated graphics on battery power, auto mode if I'm using the laptop by itself while plugged into power, and lock it to dedicated graphics mode when using an external monitor. It would be nice if there was a way to set this to happen automatically, but it's only a couple of mouse clicks to set the mode you want. The laptop feels solid, the keypad feels nice, and it does a great job driving the latest games. It really is a powerhouse. There are still some bugs, like the graphics switching thing that I mentioned and some issues with the Alienware software, but these things should be able to be addressed with updates. Alienware products might be a bit more expensive than their competitors, but I like the way that they look, and I couldn't be happier with their customer service. My old laptop had a problem with the Ethernet port, and in the middle of the Covid pandemic, they sent someone to my rural home to repair it. That's exactly the type of customer service that I want when I spend this much money on a computer.

The system was purchased in Sept-2023, since then it has a multiple problems (battery drainage, random rebooting, freezing screen, flickering screen). The motherboard was replaced, system board was replaced, windows was reinstalled couple of times. And.....surprisingly it still randomly reboots, and when you close the lid after long work hours, in the morning you will find out that the battery drained to 0 or the blue screen.
