Great powerhouse of a laptop at a reasonable price
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Built quality improved over the last years - Everything is still plastic though so I would rate 8/10 I/O - Moving the IO's to the back of the laptop was actually a great move. I felt a little sketchy before I had this but using it now it feels great. I feel I'm ONE USB too short, but ok. 8/10 Screen is great for its size, contrast is great! It's QHD+, 240hz so that's awesome if you don't have a second screen. 9/10 Keyboard feels really solid regarding size, placement and overall quality feel. Same for the trackpad. 7/10 Sound quality is really poor (at least with my unit) but not that I would be using that a lot, I mostly use Headsets anyway. 5/10 Now what REALLY matters: Processor - The new R9 7845HX is ABSURD! It trumps the i9's of latest 13th gen. Really good power house with good value to it. Thermals are good for something powerful like this - thanks to Alienware's cooling solution. 10/10 GPU - I got the 4080 version and I couldn't have made a better choice. This is WAAAY better than the 4070 by about 20% and dominates last gen 3080Ti for about 25%. It's 12GB GDDR6X is also a great improvement. It is AWESOME without being overpriced like the 4090. 10/10 RAM - Being one of the new line of laptops with DDR5 is awesome, I just feel like the default 16GB is on the low side....it should come with at least 32GBs (I already did the upgrade myself, but still...) - 8/10 SSD - Didn't perform any specific tests or anything because the nuances on a daily use are pretty much unnoticeable. M.2 SSD slot with 1TB of space, pretty standard. 9/10 Battery - You're a lunatic if you think this power house has a good battery....It's size is good but come on....no one will use this outside of the outlet.... 9/10 Overall - 8/10 If this came with a metal chassis and with 32GB ram from the factory it would be 10/10. Really glad I got this over the Intel version though.

Its pretty cool, kinda like the concord jet.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yup, the Concord Jet was flippin awesome, but had a few major flaws, crashes and was a bit to loud and expensive to keep around. Thats this baby right here. It absolutley rips through 'em vidja games but an efficient laptop, nay PC, it is not.. exactly. So lets get this straight. There are people this would be perfect for. If you plan on leaving it plugged in on AC aaaand have an already high aptitude for tech aaand have the patience of... a very patient thing; then you can probably tolerate this machine, because it is a beast (cant stress that enough). Based on my research this would preform close to a desktop with a 4070 gpu, so yeah pretty cool. Want upgradeability? You got it. Fast nvme SSD? Here! The screen is also shockingly tolerable for an IPS panel. The speakers are ok, they get loud but they don't sound all that good. Battery life doesnt really exist. Ive been browsing the web unplugged this morning and it seems like itll tap out arround 2-3 hours max with a reasonable effort to save juice: RGB disabled on keyboard, the back rear facing RGB enabled because its awesome, AWCC set to balanced, windows on power efficiency mode and screen set to MAX brightness because I'm not in a dungeon. This will probably remain a capable machine for quite a few years to come, just as long as it can survive its own bugs. Buggy BIOS, buggy MUX switch, even buggy RGB. Yes it runs hot but that's how dell configured it, so if they believe it'll last then it might. But you also dont want to drop over 2k for something that "might last", do you?

Amazing Device!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a beast of a laptop this is! I bought it on an open-box sale they had and it was worth every penny. The keyboard is the best keyboard I've typed on a laptop, including my MacBook Pro. The screen is beautiful! I will say that it can get loud when gaming but I think that's normal for a gaming laptop that has a smaller chassis compared to a desktop (obviously). I really like the Windows Hello built-in. The speakers are okayish. They lack bass but its loud enough in my opinion. The battery life for a gaming latop is alright, at least to me. It will get about 3ish hours on battery if you're doing light stuff. I've read that some people play games without plugging in their gaming laptops and complain about the battery life which I think is kind of weird to say as these type of devices chug on power. Anywho, I will say that I wish it had another usb-a connection on the right side because it looks like Dell could have fit one there. I managed to install a 64 GB kit of RAM in it, it's great tbh. The 4080 in this machine is amazing, I've been able to run everything in Ultra/Max settings for nearly every game I throw at it, which includes Hogwarts Legacy, The Last of Us, Starfield, CoD MW2 (2022), Spiderman, RE4 Remake, just to name a few. The Ryzen 9 is such a beast as well, it handles everything it throw at it really well and fast. I highly recommend this device if you are in the market for a gaming laptop. One last thing is that this laptop will come with the beefy 330w charger brick which weighs more than the laptop imo.

Great Desktop Replacement!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great laptop that can handle any game at high settings. Screen is great. A little loud. Would be great if it accepted usb c power but it’s high wattage so it’s acceptable. Overall would highly recommend as a desktop replacement.

Loud until you activate quiet mode
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was getting ready to return this today because when you boot up a game it sounds like an XF-84H taking off! Luckily I did a quick google search and found that the laptop should have but didn't have the Alienware Command Center installed. I installed it and I forced quiet mode for all applications and now I'm running Baldur's Gate 3 at 100fps on High with 0 Issues. The rest of the computer feels very sturdy and I don't fear it breaking in my bag if it's dropped or stepped on. The bottom of the unit and the top are metal, the interior looks and feels like a tough plastic with some sort of coating on it and the keyboard. The speakers are goofily placed on the sides which if you are in a cubicle I suppose it would work but my desk is in the open so the sound shoots off to the walls that are 5 feet away so it's less than desirable. Other than that the screen is vibrant, the colors on and around the unit are vivid and customizable. She looks and feels premium and I am now happy with my purchase after making the fans settle down a bit.

Outstanding for both gaming and productivity!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is built like a tank and just feels solid. It has a very sleek rubberized metal frame that has zero give or flex while typing. The keyboard is very nice, you can customize the RGB of each key individually. Good display, perfect resolution and great response on the panel for gaming, not quite as smooth as an OLED display but surprisingly pretty close with no ghosting that I could see. The internal fans cool very effectively and even on max settings aren't crazy loud though propping up the laptop on a stand that allows airflow helps cooling considerably. I have been using this thing for both gaming and audio production tasks and it's a champ though I did need to upgrade the RAM. Rest assured I'm running two sticks of Corsair Vengeance ddr5 4800mhz 32GB for 64GB total system memory and it's stable as can be. This system is a beast and Dell has really outdone themselves with it.

Great gaming laptop
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are a hard-core gamer, this is a wonderful machine with fast graphics processor! Love the color LED keyboard… only negative is the monster power pack that you have to lug around if you’re using more than an hour.

Worth the price on open-box
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great performance, but bios needs more options. Dell locks memory speed to what comes stock. Overall, it's a good laptop with a great display. I'd still buy it if I had to make the choice all over again.

Great for gaming.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far everything is running at high FPS and cool (for AMD). Great screen and sound is decent. Only complaints is that Dell didn’t add thunderbolt ports to this model with a 4080.

It's A Beast
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a solid gaming laptop. I bought this to replace my previous 17-inch Alienware laptop that was starting to show its age. The old laptop still works perfectly well, but demands are greater now and it isn't keeping up. The laptop came pretty well equipped, but I added some upgrades right away. It's usually more cost effective to buy with lower specs and upgrade what you can, and that was definitely the case here. In the AMD model, there are two additional SSD slots that you can use. I swapped out the original SSD with a 2 TB Samsung 990 Pro, added a second 2 TB Samsung 990 Pro, and installed a Dogfish 1 TB SSD in the open 2230 slot. This increased my storage to 5 TB, and the Samsung SSDs benchmarked much faster than the OEM drive. I also increased the RAM to 64GB. I do things other than gaming on this, so having the extra RAM helps. Did I need 64GB? Probably not, but it wasn't that expensive and the computer could take it, so why not? I usually have this hooked up to a 49" OLED monitor running at 5,120 x 1,440 resolution with 240Hz, and this laptop can drive those pixels without any problem at all. The battery life on this isn't great, but it is still a lot better than my old Alienware laptop ever got. I don't usually play games on battery power, and this laptop will usually run for 2-3 hours on battery if you're not gaming. Not great, but my old laptop would only last around an hour even when the battery was brand new. The charging brick is huge and heavy. You can carry this thing around in a bag, but I wouldn't want to have to lug it around vey much. One of the reasons why the battery lasts longer in this is because of the Optimus feature which lets you switch between integrated graphics and the Nvidia graphics. For desktop use, it will try to use the AMD graphics and only use the Nvidea when it needs to. Currently, this seems to be a bit buggy when using an external monitor. Sometimes when it switches from one mode to the other, the external monitor will blank for a second or it might show a jumbled pixelated screen. It's not as visible on the laptop screen, but sometimes you will see a flash when it switches from one mode to the other. You can prevent this from happening by locking the video to either the integrated graphics or the dedicated one. I usually keep it on integrated graphics on battery power, auto mode if I'm using the laptop by itself while plugged into power, and lock it to dedicated graphics mode when using an external monitor. It would be nice if there was a way to set this to happen automatically, but it's only a couple of mouse clicks to set the mode you want. The laptop feels solid, the keypad feels nice, and it does a great job driving the latest games. It really is a powerhouse. There are still some bugs, like the graphics switching thing that I mentioned and some issues with the Alienware software, but these things should be able to be addressed with updates. Alienware products might be a bit more expensive than their competitors, but I like the way that they look, and I couldn't be happier with their customer service. My old laptop had a problem with the Ethernet port, and in the middle of the Covid pandemic, they sent someone to my rural home to repair it. That's exactly the type of customer service that I want when I spend this much money on a computer.
